It's time for the final mountainous stage race of the 2009 Season and this race will be very important for who will walk away with the two promotion spots this season. With LA/MSS absent this could be the chance Champion need to put the final nail in the coffin of the Portuguese team, but will also be a chance to challenge B&O for 2009 Continental Tour Championship.
Champion has a very capable and perhaps even the biggest favourite for the win in home-favourite José Chacon. He will face stiff competition from his countryman Manuel Medina of British Airways in this 15-stage race through Venezuela.
In the next line of favourites we have the Continental Tour Leader, Tom Danielson, who will be looking to bag that win as he come under heavy pressure recently by Edvald Boasson Hagen, Angel Vicioso and Juan José Haedo. None of these will be in Venezuela for this race, so for Danielson this is a great opportunity to seal the deal.
Danielson will face competition from three Europeans. The first is White Bear Steyr's Bernhard Kohl, who is a force to reckon with in the mountains. Wiggle - Premier Inn and Ernst&Young also field strong contenders here with Mikel Aztarloza and Oscar Pereiro Sio, who is the Cyanide Bookies' favourite.
If none of the above mentioned riders can live up to the expectations, then the likes of Colorade (Zenmind), Terciado (Benfica), Ochoa Quintero (Irn Bru) and Peterson (Slipstream) will be lined up to run off with the overall honour.

Well, with Matt Rowe my only sprinter here, it's all or nothing for Astarloza. Hopefully someone will get in the breaks to get me another jersey!

Is Marcos Arriagdadada team leader for Wiggle? If he is, I may start crying.

So far not bad. Its good that my riders will still go in the break even with a lead to defend. We are not going to hold that lead so the breakaways are essential

Good to see Matt Rowe actually being treated as my only team's sprinter! 10th place for him is ok. I'm happy with that. Next year he should/could be able to manage a few podium places in the right races.

Bittersweet victory for Turano on the third stage, hoping for some more stage wins and perhaps a points jersey now.
