East Midlands Cicle Classic
Welcome to the 13th edition of the East Midlands Cicle Classic. The British race has been on the calendar uninterrupted since 2010, first two years at a lower level, but a main fixture on the highest level since 2012. Given that it is late summer or early autumn this is like a mini 2nd classics season for the cobble specialists with more races following in September.
Still if it's one thing that this race is known for, is that it used to be the playground of Sam Bewley who won this race 8 times!! He's a bit older now and in the PCT division so he's not here to defend his title. Due to that dominance there have been only 5 different winners of this race. We will get a new 6th one this year.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | Pedersen | 77 | 69 | 78 | 80 | 82 | 78 | 77 | Wisniowski | 80 | 71 | 75 | 76 | 83 | 73 | 76 | Gerts | 77 | 78 | 76 | 80 | 82 | 72 | 70 | Per | 79 | 70 | 74 | 75 | 81 | 74 | 74 | Senechal | 75 | 67 | 79 | 74 | 82 | 69 | 74 | Summerhill | 77 | 72 | 75 | 71 | 82 | 69 | 72 | Theuns | 72 | 74 | 76 | 73 | 80 | 77 | 76 | Altur | 75 | 70 | 75 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | Debesay | 75 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 79 | 69 | 78 | Zepuntke | 72 | 69 | 79 | 72 | 82 | 72 | 65 | Kamyshev | 77 | 65 | 81 | 75 | 82 | 66 | 60 | Teunissen | 76 | 67 | 77 | 73 | 81 | 67 | 69 | Tiller | 74 | 70 | 76 | 75 | 78 | 74 | 73 | Spengler | 74 | 66 | 74 | 73 | 83 | 61 | 70 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | Neilands | 77 | 69 | 74 | 73 | 78 | 71 | 67 | Polanc | 72 | 73 | 78 | 73 | 78 | 67 | 75 | Gamper | 77 | 66 | 77 | 77 | 78 | 63 | 71 | Van Hooydonck | 73 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 80 | 61 | 72 | Karatzios | 77 | 71 | 75 | 71 | 77 | 63 | 65 | Meiler | 74 | 74 | 72 | 70 | 77 | 63 | 71 |
Pedersen has distinguished himself as the new #1 cobble specialist in the world and stylistically he's quite similar to Bewley. While the legendary Kiwi has won this race in more than one way, the most common finish is a reduced sprint. The Dane is the best sprinter if it comes to that.
And that's probably a good way to split the favourites of this race. Those who sprint good and those that sprint less good. The likes of Wisniowski, Gerts and Per can probably handle doing both. Senechal and Summerhill might try a late attack, but Theuns could rival Pedersen in a sprint finish.
Those are arguably the top favourites for the race. The rest will need to ride smartly and follow the right moves to make the most out of it. But a good day from any of others can trust them right in the thick of things.

Not too much climbing and many cobbles. In theory, this route should suit Zepuntke. A top-10 should be realistic, let's hope we get it. Thanks for the preview, red!

Let's hope Gamper can hang on for a while, but the hills are not to his advantage.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No expectations here. If Karatzios can somehow finish in top 25 it would be a huge succes.

Come on, Wisniowski! No one is going to take away the hope of winning a cobble classics this season Fingers crossed he’s attentive and in the mix when the race gets decided. Also, the flat rating could favour him, as he’s quite a flat monster with his FL, though, that counts for many other contenders as well here. |

Hoping for a top ten from Polanc (/Neilands) here as i often do in these sort of classics. would be crucial to not lose too much ground on Gerts, Debesay and Summerhill

A lot of the guys who were at the start in Riga will also be here so hopefully we can carry on some momentum from there.

We love the Netia boys in a 1-2 <3

Seems like this race was very hard from the start, and Zepuntke immediately got isolated. He seemed to be quite attentive, but maybe the route was just too hilly in the end for him. I can live with a thirteenth place, which is fitting, as it was the thirteenth edition of this race. Congratulations to Bikex and thank you for the report, redordead!

That was really poor from Gerts. Not only a bad result in itself but finishing behind both Van Hooydonck and Debesay too.

Looking solely at our team the result is okay-ish but we didnt lose much ground to the teams around us so I'm happy with this.

Solid result, 20th is decent in any cobble race during post-Bewley era.

5th is around what Wisniowski has done this season. It’s a disappointment, as my mind isn’t ready to accept he should be «just» a top 5 rider on good days. The process of accepting that instead of being a winner/a podium rider will take a long time. Fingers crossed it’s reflected in his wage for next year
Also, we must look to bring in a new rider who can be our third best cobbler, as Anderberg has been used up much too early for my liking on a couple of occasions this season.
Congratulations on the win, Bikex! |

Bad result for Meiler down in 36th, but he did everything he could following the mid-race moves and trying to get caught as late as possible.
Sadly, it seems like he only tried that and didn't achieve it, as getting caught with the last remnants of the break would've yielded a better result.
King Power is mounting a challenge this year! Congrats bikex.
