I just can't figure out using Hannes editor. It keeps displaying an error message when I load a database.
So I would like to ask you which (young) riders have a potential of 7 or 8 in the original DB???
Offcourse Thomas Dekker and probably also Boessen Hagen. |

Boassen Hagen would be quite the exaggeration, so he doesn't. Even Dekker I think is quite the exaggeration. 8 turns riders into Merckx.

Thomas Dekker is the only young potential 8 (Boonen is the only other 8)
For potential 7:
Taylor Tollesen (USA), Slipstream, 21
Andy Schleck, Edvald Boassen Hagen, Mikhail Ignatiev, Janez Brajkovic, Heinrich Haussler, Ricardo Ricco, Linus Gerdemann and Phillipe Gilbert.
Cavendish only has potential 5

it's because Cya are French they do weird things (not offensive )
some may argue that Cav is over-rated (like Alex thinks) but he has to have at least a 6, i would put him as a 7 though because he is only 22 and is beating the best in the world and can only improve |

I'd set him 6. why? because higher means he'll improve too much in a lot of stats that aren't those he should. |

Definately Dekker. He has potential of 8 and with mythical trainers his training rating is 125%. In my game (im in April 2008 at the moment) his average ability is 78. He picked up a 4th in Vuelta for me last year.
Others of note are Brajkovic, Andy Schleck, Ignatiev, Gerdemann and Gilbert.
Also Ciolek can win the odd sprint, as can Cavendish. Kolesnikov improves a fair amount and be picked up for under 1,000,000.

I think that Cavendish will without a doubt become one of th best, maybe the worlds best sprinter in a few years, but he isn't even close yet |

i agree (suprisingly ) he will become great but at the moment he is showing that when he won early in the season, he was in form and the other sprinters weren't
and there's the small matter of not getting dropped every time the gradient strays above 0% |

If youre talking about Cavendish then - he was going to withdraw tomorrow anyway. T-Mobile don't want him to burn out early in his first season, and as a neo-pro - would you really expect him to contest today's stage when he is a Sprinter?

yes and even McEwen dropped out, well didn't exactly drop out (more kicked out) but it shows how hard that stage was as McEwen never gets eliminated, Cav was correct to pull out before the stage

So true, and it shows that maybe he is not up to it. I think 6 maybe is overrated. Only in a few years time you can see if someone actually is good (but that is with everybody I guess...) |

i think everyone (generally) feels he may be a very good (maybe excellent) sprinter in the future, but only if he improves his climbing will he be a Tour sprinter, unfortunatley if he concentrates on his climbing then he will most likely lose some of his speed (Rogers sacrificed TT ability for climbing)
but obviously even if everyone in the world is tipping someone to best the greatest int the history of the sport then there are many cases in which the person doesn't fulfil that expectation, a good example is Sandy Cusar he got dropped very early in yesterday's stage, when a couple of years ago everyong was tipping him for greatness
so as you say we will only really be able to tell in a few years time, but i think people (especially Brits) are getting excited that he may be the next 'Lion King'/best sprinter and tipping him for greatness now instead of waiting a while, he is still only a neo-pro lets face it
but it's human nature for people to get excited and impatient, most of the time people are dissapointed like with Cusar as i mentioned, but even if everyone who was tipped to be #1 ended up a Bouygues rider then we would still tip people for greatness, we can't help it
