[C1] Berlin ProRace
The route and the profile of the race didn’t change much over the years. Owing to the rather flat Brandenburg landscape surrounding the city of Berlin, there aren’t many difficulties for the riders to overcome - none at all to be accurate. So everything looks to be prepared for a bunch sprint.
After pausing for the 2021 season the best cyclists in the world return to the German capital. Well, regarding the profile only the best sprinters, and after downgrading the race to the C1 category not necessarily the very best of them either, but at least we’ll see some pretty good sprinters fighting for the win. But in the last editions there were some surprise wins from late attacks (Silvestre in 2019) or even from the break of the day (Bennett in 2014 and Vink in 2015).
So far no rider was able to win the race twice, but at least Silvestre is at the start of the race and has the chance to become the sole record holder.
Previous winners:
Spoiler
Year | Winner | | | | | | | | | 2020 | Kenji Itami (GCN Racing) | | | | | | | | 2019 | Fabio Silvestre (Berg Cycles) | | | | | | | | | 2018 | John Degenkolb (Iberia - Team Degenkolb) | | | | | | | 2017 | Óscar Guerao (SPAR - Shimano - SCG) | | | | | | | | 2016 | Tosh van der Sande (Strava) | | | | | | | | 2015 | Michael Vink (Risa - Ergon) | | | | | | | | 2014 | George Bennett (Oz Cycling Project) | | | | | | | 2013 | Allan Davis (Hollister Pro Cycling) | | | | | | | | 2012 | Daniele Bennati (Team Puma SAP)
2020 results:
Spoiler
1 | Kenji Itami | GCN Racing | 4h39'40 | 2 | Salem Kemboi | Farfetch Pro Cycling | s.t. | 3 | Theo Reinhardt | Centovalli - Fiat | s.t. | 4 | Caleb Ewan | Podium Ambition | s.t. | 5 | Kris Boeckmans | Swisslion Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Jacopo Guarnieri | Bakkafrost | s.t. | 7 | Ivano Lo Cicero | MOL | s.t. | 8 | Luke Rowe | Xero Racing | s.t. | 9 | Oscar Guerao | DK - SVA Zalgiris | s.t. | 10 | Matti Manninen | Valio - Viking Genetics | s.t.
The startlist of the race is pretty evenly distributed between the PCT (13 teams) and the CT (10 teams) with every team sending their best sprinter(s) - not really surprising regarding the profile of the race. So the list of favorites is mainly a list of the best sprinters starting, supplemented by some potential late attackers and the most likely riders in the break of the day.
Sprinters:
The best sprinter at the start of the race by quite a margin is Jonas Ahlstrand. But he is accompanied by a whole armada of other good sprinters, with about one or two dozen additional riders not even mentioned in the list probably in contention in a sprint too.
| | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Ahlstrand | Jonas | 74 | 74 | 73 | 83 | 82 | Volcanica - Fox | Kennaugh | Peter | 76 | 73 | 70 | 81 | 80 | HelloFresh - Lampre | Howard | Leigh | 75 | 74 | 69 | 81 | 78 | Indosat Ooredoo | Zabel | Rick | 74 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 79 | Kraftwerk Man Machine | Vesely | Daniel | 73 | 74 | 68 | 81 | 80 | Minions - Subwoolfer | Halvorsen | Kristoffer | 76 | 74 | 71 | 81 | 80 | Red Bull Zalgiris | Silvestre | Fabio | 78 | 70 | 71 | 80 | 81 | Bralirwa - Stevens | Bonifazio | Niccolo | 79 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Liu | Jiankun | 74 | 76 | 69 | 80 | 80 | Voyagin - Bird | Jakobsen | Fabio | 74 | 75 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Zara - Irizar | Coutinho | Lionel | 72 | 75 | 74 | 79 | 80 | Assa Abloy | Guardini | Andrea | 71 | 72 | 67 | 79 | 80 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Reinhardt | Theo | 71 | 73 | 66 | 79 | 84 | Crabbe-CC Chevigny | Kanter | Max | 75 | 75 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Tryg - Gobik |
Rouleurs:
This riders could launch an attack at the final kilometers if they don’t have to work for their respective sprinter (which is indeed quite improbable regarding the pure amount of sprinters at the start).
| | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Arashiro | Yudai | 81 | 71 | 67 | 70 | 75 | Voyagin - Bird | English | Felix | 78 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 75 | Minions - Subwoolfer | Quicibal | Romeo | 78 | 69 | 71 | 62 | 66 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Breen | Vegard | 77 | 72 | 72 | 73 | 72 | Tafjord Kraft | Van der Haar | Lars | 77 | 70 | 72 | 72 | 70 | Assa Abloy | Manakov | Viktor | 77 | 77 | 68 | 72 | 76 | Bianchi - Panerai | Castrillo | Jaime | 77 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 73 | Zara - Irizar | Richardson | Alexander | 77 | 71 | 74 | 68 | 67 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Biermans | Jenthe | 77 | 71 | 74 | 66 | 67 | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Bolor-Erdene | Enkhtaivan | 77 | 71 | 77 | 64 | 73 | Volcanica - Fox | Yzeiraj | Marildo | 77 | 74 | 74 | 62 | 71 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV |
Break of the Day:
The best bets for the break of the day. As mentioned above, there were already winners from the early break, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if one of this riders will try his luck and maybe even be successful.
| | FL | ST | RS | AC | FG | | Yzeiraj | Marildo | 77 | 74 | 74 | 71 | 85 | Oktal Pharma - TotalTV | Arashiro | Yudai | 81 | 71 | 67 | 75 | 78 | Voyagin - Bird | Naud | Patrick | 76 | 72 | 73 | 67 | 78 | Volcanica - Fox | Tesfaye Heyi | Henok | 75 | 74 | 76 | 73 | 78 | Xero Racing | Gonzalez Salas | Mario | 70 | 74 | 76 | 54 | 78 | Assa Abloy | Biermans | Jenthe | 77 | 71 | 74 | 67 | 77 | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Serrano | Gonzalo | 69 | 73 | 75 | 77 | 77 | Caja Rural Cycling Team | Zukowsky | Nickolas | 68 | 70 | 69 | 71 | 77 | Zara - Irizar |
Honorable Mentions:
And finally two of the most interesting rider choices for this race are veteran Davide Malacarne (FL 61) and mountain rider Paolo Scarponi, who most probably won’t be able to use his superb downhill skills (DO 82) here.

Nice preview! Talking about my team is pointless, so wonder if Jakobsen can keep his season going here. Wouldn’t mind a good result from Liu either to keep Valv’s head high too.

Thank you for the preview kandes!
Always a tough one to predict races like these.
Expectation is that it should be a sprint. If so then hopefully Jakobsen can put in a good performance. Appreciate the mention Eden He hasn't done that well historically in one-day races so maybe this is where he turns it around. Definitely has the support to be able to do so in Hofstetter.
Castrillo could look at a late attack but I would prefer he sticks around to lead-out and support the team.
Definitely a free day for Zukowsky so would be happy to see him in the breakaway!
Looking forward to this one
Passing my good luck back to Eden as it'd be great to see a strong performance from Howard. Same for Vesely and the Minions.

Vesely is usually not that great in one-day races because he wants to go for an attack for some reason. Hopefully English will deprive him of that role and he can sprint to a good result as he should
Thanks for the preview!

Thank you for the preview! This would be a great race for Silvestre to get his mojo back. Top 5 has to be the goal, eventhough everything from the win to like 15th is in the cards. Gonna be watching/reading anxiously!

Let's call this the (yet another) race that decides Bonifazio's future on this team.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Always going to be interesting to see how the sprint AI acts up, but we have to individual pieces here to contest for the win with Kennaugh the main man to challenge Ahlstrand but with the field being as stacked as it will always be sorta random.

Kudos to the attackers. Vesely fourth of the peloton would have been very good, but tenth is something I'll live with.
Thanks for the report Abhi and congrats whitejersey

Just when you thought it couldn't get much worse, here's an 18th place for Silvestre I remember that before the season, he was the one of my three leaders I was least worried about. Turns out I was wrong. Still some time to make up ground in the standings for him, but he really has to start picking up significant points.
If it wasn't to my team's detriment, I'd always cheer for attackers in this kind of race, and Dramastagic is certainly a worthy winner. Great result all around for HelloFresh, congrats! And thanks for the report Abhi

LETS GO DZAMA! Love that attack from him, guess you don't have to contend with sprint AI if you don't sprint! Kennaugh also getting a nice result in the bunch sprint we take those! Thanks for the report!

Congrats whitejersey, and thanks for the report Abhi!
8th from the bunch sprint is something I would have signed for. Although 14th now isn't the best result points wise. Up to the next
