As always, the details of the Tour de France 2009 route are being 'leaked' a few days before the official presentation. Of course, we don't know if it's the real one, but either way, it's interesting (in Spanish, though - sorry):

Lunes, 6 de julio. Marsella- La Grande Motte

If there's ever been a Tour for climbers....this is it.
TTT + La Mongie? I hate it
Les Arcs? I love it.
Let's wait for the details before we say anything.
Summing it up for the non spanish speakers:
4 mountaintop finishes, 1 pyrenees + 3 alps (mont ventoux on the penultimate day)
15km "prologue"
45km ITT
38km TTT
Has anyone thought of how the route goes on the map? It's INSANE. In a few stage is "jumps" from the Pyrenees to the Vosges....WTF?
The finish in Switzerland intrigues me. As far as I know, it's never been used in the TDF....
And Les Arcs, I think was only used in 96 when Induráin cracked badly.
EDIT: From what I could gather, the Verbier climb averages 7.7% for 7.7 km, with a maximum of 12%.

This can only be a good thing if the riders make it a good thing. If they will do what they did this year, sitting in the peloton and climb together untill the summit, it will be boring....

Well if thats the route I'll be putting my money on Contador they will have such a strong team there. Could come down to astana riders attacking each other. should be a good watch with alot of attacking on the last climbs |

Actually that's one of the very few things that have been officially confirmed: flat stage ending on the Ventoux on the penultimate day (then again, for a Ventoux stage to have other climbs than the Ventoux it'd have to be 400kms long...) |

You gotta laugh - the way ASO is trying to stamp out drug taking, then what do you know? They send 'em up Ventoux the second last day and throw in a load of mountain-top finishes....
Still, should be entertaining...and then a few weeks later some of the top guys will be kicked out. Can't wait.............................for the Giro. |

Although I do get your point, I'd still say that having 21 flat stages wouldn't make doping disappear. It's about winning, and you win by being faster than everyone else - how do you become that? By using drugs That goes for all kind of stages and all kinds of elite sports for that matter |

Couldn't agree more.
But with ASO's current stance it's difficult to get excited about the Tour.

I'm reasonnably condident that this is the road that will be used, still it's a bit weird that it draws only a triangle on the map : from bottom right (SE) to bottom left (SW) then a diagonal up to Elsaz (NE) and straight down again (SE) with the last stage in Paris.
Now : what's the closest TDF 2009 route from Brest ? |

They were very close to not being the only "train" up there:
Evans, Kohl, Popovych, Vandenbroeck, Dekker, Wegelius, Cioni
Then Kohl....well, you know the rest. |

the french press made it's own predictions without revealing the route

It doesn't say much more than what's already been said above.
It'd be a waste of my time to translate the whole thing, basically they're just using conditionnals about the place where the stages will be, but it's the same as above. |
