It's out soon - with a major twist: It finally acquired a license of worthy note. Check out the trailer below for more...
Looking good methinks
And before anyone jumps this thread with FIFA vs PES comments, let me just lay down a few point's of view. I realise that, yes, this year's pes does look similar to last year's, but hopefully it will be less buggy. In no way should you insinuate that FIFA provides a better football simulation, because I've played FIFA 09/Euro 2008/FIFA 08/Whatever and you're wrong. Thank you.
The AI should have been improved, and one of the better improvements of the AI is that the players now see holes in the defence and run into them as you see in the video when they score the goal.

I have to say that EA has done an amazing job with FIFA this year from what I have seen.
PES looks a lot more current gen than FIFA and still has the same solid gameplay. PES 08 was too fast for my liking and FIFA 08 was too slow.
I like the Champions League license (by the way, does this mean EA won't release the Champions League game?).
Also a bit annoyed that Konami didn't add the Champion League to the Master League.
Konami is finally releasing it in America the same year as Europe, but we still have to wait till November to get it. Which is a lot better then the normal February.
dribbling is more fluid than ever (you do control with d-pad) and that you can do tricks with sharp d-pad movements which are much better when you get used to it
shooting is different and it will take some getting used to, but in time it is better

The demo for the pc is pretty good, I like it more than pes 2008 already. For those who don't know, there's a few more modes in the new game too - including a 'be a pro' option like Fifa's, but also allows you to take it online and develop your player online with 3 other players. Looks promising, providing online play isn't as dire as the previous release.
The graphics take getting used to. They looked crap at first but I'm getting used to them.
EDIT: and the difficulty levels are screwed up. "Top Player" is easier than Britney. "Professional" is the hardest.

Oh. Serves me right for believing in anything I read in a gaming magazine then, especially the deadlines bit, because they probably wrote it weeks ago.
@Isso
I actually think the graphics are better this time round, and, so far, the gameplay too. But I also have the same problem with the difficulty level. Maybe we should date?
Only played one game so far, but to me, the gameplay seems slower than last year's edition which is good. I didn't do very well for the very same reason
