Bayern Rundfahrt
Welcome to Germany for the eleventh edition of the Bayern Rundfahrt! Last year’s winner Tenorio is back to defend his title, and it won’t be easy, as there are some strong allrounders in Germany for the last PCT stage race of the 2020 season! Two time trials and one mountain stage will be decisive for the GC, whereas the flat stage should not be a concern for those riders, or should it? Let’s have a look at the different lists of favourites, starting with the best climbers and other possible GC riders.
| MTN | HILL | TT | STA | RES | Tenorio | 84 | 76 | 80 | 78 | 76 | Cattaneo | 82 | 70 | 79 | 76 | 80 | Eastman | 82 | 71 | 77 | 76 | 75 | Uran | 81 | 73 | 77 | 74 | 80 | Intxausti | 80 | 69 | 75 | 75 | 75 | Ranaweera | 80 | 73 | 74 | 75 | 75 | Martin | 80 | 75 | 71 | 74 | 75 | Abal | 79 | 68 | 75 | 71 | 74 | Keinath | 78 | 75 | 74 | 76 | 75 | Ablenado | 78 | 67 | 72 | 73 | 77 | Roson | 78 | 76 | 61 | 67 | 70 | Novak | 77 | 73 | 76 | 75 | 73 | Borisavljevic | 77 | 73 | 74 | 74 | 74 | Nepomnyachsniy | 76 | 73 | 76 | 73 | 73 | Haga | 75 | 72 | 76 | 73 | 70 | Dunbar | 75 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 75 | Ahmad Zamri | 75 | 70 | 75 | 72 | 74 | Izagirre | 74 | 81 | 77 | 73 | 72 |
Tenorio obviously the biggest name here, but as said in the intro, winning the Bayern Rundfahrt two years in a row is easier said than done with some interesting competitors. Italian MOL rider Cattaneo should be the most important rival, although Eastman and Uran should also be considered a serious threat for the highest podium spot.
Intxausti might come a bit short with his weak punch and slightly worse time trial capacities, but the Spaniard will definitely hope to finish his season with a top-5. Sauber’s Ranaweera is the first CT rider in this list, but with a good performance, which he should be capable of, he can singlehandedly make sure he won’t be a CT rider anymore next year. Martin is another fun rider on the list, but his time trial capacities should mean he won’t be a top-5 rider, although a good form and display in the mountains could definitely prove me wrong.
Some all-rounders that might be hoping for a top-10 or more include Keinath, Novak, Nepomnyachsniy, Haga and Dunbar. Don’t underestimate an in form Izagirre neither.
Half of the stages are a time trial, and not the shortest ones either. Let’s have a look at the best time trialists at the start tomorrow.
| MTN | TT | PRL | Zmorka | 61 | 82 | 82 | Kittel | 55 | 81 | 81 | Paillot | 70 | 80 | 80 | Gonzalez Salas | 57 | 80 | 80 | Viennet | 54 | 80 | 80 | Tenorio | 84 | 80 | 79 | Cattaneo | 82 | 79 | 79 | Mottin | 58 | 79 | 79 | Mullen | 62 | 79 | 78 | Janse van Rensburg | 69 | 78 | 78 | Dumoulin | 59 | 78 | 78 | Hofer | 58 | 78 | 78 | Li | 53 | 78 | 78 | Nareklishvili | 68 | 78 | 76 |
If Repsol – Netflix doesn’t get at least one stage win, manager Aquarius97 won’t be a happy man with three riders amongst the best time trialists, including Zmorka. Paillot, Viennet and Tenorio should be other riders able to win a time trial, with the underdogs being Cattaneo, Mottin and Mullen.
Stage two should give us a sprint. Let’s find out who the best sprinters are.
| SPR | ACC | Carsi | 80 | 82 | Kupfernagel | 80 | 80 | Lay | 79 | 81 | Kalaba | 79 | 79 | Sanikwathi | 78 | 78 | Martinelli | 78 | 78 | Boev | 78 | 78 | Lobato del Valle | 77 | 80 | Tivani | 77 | 78 | Lovassy | 77 | 77 | Kamberaj | 77 | 76 |
Not a lot of great sprinters made the trip to Germany, resulting in quite a weak sprinting field. The three men in red, Carsi, Kupfernagel and Lay, seem to be the biggest favourites for the stage win. A sprint can go many ways however, so we’ll see if they actually succeed in their mission.
That’s it for the preview, good luck to everyone!

Good luck to everyone here, could be a couple of important moves in the various battles looking at that startlist (but I think I hope not ). Thanks for the preview Nemo, looking forward to some tense reports!

Has to be a win for Tenorio in his last race of the season, although I'm a little afraid some of the TT guys could survive the short steep climb on Stage 3. Top result here should seal promotion.

Probably Keinath's last ever race for us as leader. It's at home so has the chance of a perfect send-off. I'll be very happy if he gets that Top 10. Hoping Dumoulin and Boev can get into the points on their respective target stages.
Thanks for the preview Nemo

Hopefully the mountain stage isn't overly selective and Paillot can limit his losses enough to take a GC top 10. Kamberaj has a good shot at a stage top 5 seeing the sprint field, and Figueiredo may even do a surprisingly good GC if he doesn't have to work for Paillot.
Though saying all of that, if we can just limit our losses to Repsol I'm not that bothered what happens really |

Wow, what has Mottin been eating the last couple of months?!
I didn't expect a stage result here from him against this field of TTers. Not like we need the points, but it's still nice to see Nepomnyachsniy with a decent if not spectacular ride also, so some GC result in the 10-15 range should be possible.
Thanks for the preview and report Nemo

Not an amazing opening by Uran, but good enough I suppose. The mountain stage is where I fear he might lose most time to his rivals, or not gaining enough on those behind him.

It does seem like whenever I start to plan to sell a rider, they start to underperform. Welcome to the club Yoann Paillot |

Tenorio on a mission! Perfect start for the defending champ. Solid rides from Verona, Eaton and Abal as well.

HOLY COW THIS IS GOOD
Was a bit surprised we were chasing after a group with Ivanov but the break remaining ahead without time gap is probably the best, even though Ivanov only finished fourth. Uran hold on very well, in fact the best after Tenorio certainly wasn't expected. Now I hope he has a better TT than the first stage. Haga holding on to the back of the group is amazing, as it means he also has a shot at the GC top ten. But take a bow for Reinhardt Janse van f*cking Rensburg, 69 MO, to finish fifteenth!!! on the stage and still be in the GC top ten.
This deserves some bananas, thanks Nemolito!

Think the team did really well to send two riders into the break and yet keep Keinath at the front all through. Wish it was a bit more selective so we could get that Top 10 secured for Keinath. Right now, he'll likely lose a couple of positions and maybe make up on one so we're likely looking at just outside a Top 10 for him. Henttala getting a possible minor placing is nice too.
Thanks for the report

Thanks for writing a summary of my team's performance for me
Repsol on course to take back about 50 points as a minimum, but with our lead nearly 200 points and Emelia featuring all of Turgis, Yates, Bettiol and Guerreiro for the first time this season hopefully we should be secure in the rankings lead. |
