Astana has just announced that they have fired Vladimir Gusev because of weird blood values. There's no positive tests, but the values vary so much that it's a clear signal of doping. The tests are done as a result of Damsgaard's anti-doping programme.
Gusev won't receive any ban and can therefore sign with a new team.

Thats a tiny bit annoying for Astana, as it will make their plentiful enemies feed off that info for the next ten years or so...

If I was naughty, I'd ask what are his former teams

Is this just, the "we need a big name that we can catch and show that our program is working" dopingcatch.

If I were annoying, I'd answer Discovery (and not CSC which is what you're searching for).

Well, I'm somehow glad, that this happened to Astana, as it seems their kazakh sponsors really don't care a c*** about doping (Kashechkin, Vino...). That means, that they won't get sponsor problems

I don't think so since he's not actually taken for anything, he just had way to abnormal blodvalues, he's just fired, so he could get a new team tomorow, and then ride the rest of the season, I'm hearing somebody inside my head yelling LPR, but I don't know why

Article from BikeRadar.com:
Astana Cycling team management has terminated the contract of Russian cyclist Vladimir Gusev due to 'irregular values'. The values were gathered during internal out-of-competition control tests, under the supervision of anti-doping expert Dr. Rasmus Damsgaard. The Team has applied the contractual clauses based on these physiological and biological abnormalities.
“Vladimir Gusev has been officially notified that he no longer represents Team Astana”, said general manager Johan Bruyneel. “Though his results do not indicate the use of forbidden substances, Vladimir’s values exceeded the normal parameters established by Dr. Damsgaard and were not compliant with the strict agreement signed by all thirty riders. Our Kazakh sponsors have also been made aware of this decision and are fully supportive.”
Bruyneel further commented: ”It’s impossible for any team manager to know the activities of riders behind closed doors, but we continue to enforce that Team Astana has a 100 percent no tolerance policy and any violators will serve the same fate as Vladimir. On a brighter note, this proves that Dr. Damsgaard’s system works and we are committed to racing clean.”
Under Dr. Damsgaard’s anti-doping system, Team Astana riders are frequently required to submit blood and urine samples, which are then sent to independent labs for analysis. This system, also instituted by CSC-Saxo Bank, is in addition to any sport or Olympic governing body’s tests.
“Certainly these situations are unfortunate, but I truly believe that we are continuing to see a cleaner sport with a large majority of credible riders. Teams like Astana and CSC-Saxo Bank have shown their full commitment to my program and I, in return, have committed all my resources to their firm anti-doping stance," Dr. Damsgaard said.
According to team spokesman Philippe Maertens, Gusev’s release is effective immediately and he is free to seek employment with another team or company. |

Nah, no LPR, just Tinkoff in their new form next year. He's Russian, they're Russian. What's the problem!?

I say it will be Katushya (Tinkoff), they want to go big, and they'll be fine with signing Gusev after this |

No wyou say it I actually think the voice says Tinkoff, and it could be a possibilite, as they don't seem to care about riders past, sadly.

You do know that after Tinkov said he wouldn't sign any more former dopers, he signer Marzoli, Petrov, and other riders who also tested positive before?

And didn't Marzoli test positive again last year? And i really think Petrov doped last Giro and got away with it. With such a vast change in performance something had to be up this year. I really don't think Oleg Tinkov has a care about what his team does, as long as he doesn't know and so can claim ignorance. As much as i love the team i can't believe that the older guys on it are clean.

Has anyone entertained the thought, that this is sort of proof that the teams are serious about their antidoping programs, and that Damsgaard is for real?
Or is this just a part of the big konspiracy to fool naive fans like me? |

No, i think for once the teams are parading these caught riders and positive tests or dodgy results as a sign that they are trying to validate their sport. Unlike before where everyone would say they were trying to clean the sport up, this time with the proactive actions being taken, i think some teams are getting somewhere. What with some major sponsors pulling out as well it shows a positive sign and stance against doping. If only teams like Liquigas and LPR didn't sign up the dopers so fast it might make the whole issue less farcicle. I'd be interesting on Isso's knowledge on the matter though. He seems to have a slightly less blurred vision than some of us.

less blurred, I doubt it. different, no doubt. but if my vision is right, it's bleak. it involves many many teams pretending to fight doping and doing the opposite under the table.
