having just simulated through a couple of years with a continental team i noticed the amount my riders increased in stats just seemed to be completely random.
i.e
1.ian stannard with a national trainer increased his stats to maximum within 18 months (improving in the flat stat alone by about 14 points)
2. jetse bol with a mythical trainer increased in the first year a little then didn't improve at all the second year
3. lars boom(supposedly a genius) with a mythical trainer barely improved at all over two years.
All riders only raced .1 and .hc races and trainers were not overburdened with too many riders.
Can't understand if i have missed something i.e training plan but it doesn't seem to make sense at least with 2007 you could physically see the small improvements with the bars/percentage system.
p.s can't wait for a db with more races to be released |

I don't know this for a fact, but I think the same system from '07 is in place in '08 (with the bars filling up).
It's just not visible.
So what I'd surmise happened is Stannard made stat jumps with experience level increases to get the extra points.... he probably started at a lvl 1. Meanwhile Boom was probably already at a 3-4 level and didn't get any boosts because you were only running .1 and .hc races. |

That could explain lars boom
But stannard couldn't have gone up experience levels as he did't race in any protour, grand tour races

Sure, in the 07-version you'd have to race to lowest ranked races when the rider was in level 1 experience, only when they have level 3 or 4 experience, the grandtour/protour races will develop them. |

According to interviews, it's a progression curve like in PES. nothing to do with experience.
And just like in PES, curves are radically different for different riders.

I like that version of progresion way better than them improving 5 stats from one day to another, but I think it would be usefull to see how good your riders can be on a curve like in PES.

There are no experience levels in PCM 08.
This is a fact, because the tables gene_i_level and gene_i_level_points are no longer in the database structure. Thus, it has nothing to do with visible or unvisible.
Instead, there is a new system, where at the start of the career, the riders get a type of progression. You have typ1: linear progression, where a rider progresses from year to year.
You have type2: the late peak, where a rider doesn't progress for years and then gets a sudden burst in his later years
And type3: the early peak, where a rider gets a peak early in his career, and then never progresses.
The problem is, every time you start a career, the type of peak a rider gets is different, you can't preset it. This is a big mistake by cyanide. Because now you can get riders like Nico Eeckhout, already way past his peak, who progress with the late peak until their potential is forfilled.
And you can get riders like Boom, who, like in your example, won't progress for years, even though it's clear Boom should be in the 'early peak' or 'linear progression' category...
If you ask me, it's a nice plan of cyanide, but badly implemented, as always when they have a new feature. They mean well, but the results are ridicolous. That's why I switched back to PCM 2006 for now |

Think they're referring to Pro Evolution Soccer/Winning Eleven - PS footie games.
Very similar to PCM in that the company have been releasing essentially the same game regularly for the last 5/6 years. Still, at least Cyanide only do it once a year......
edit: see now that the drugsdontwork just beat me to it.....
by the way, nice post ruben. very informative.

If you're going to lie outrageously, don't do it in a forum where people actually know what you're talking about

Essentially plain wrong. If we say 6 years, i can pull out of a copy of both CyM2 and PCM08 which are very VERY different on all points.

I live in Japan and I think I bought 6 versions of the same game consecutively.
The only difference was the number on the end....and as far as I can see the game has actually been going downhill since WE7. |

If we're talking about PCM, then I conceed I'm over exageratting a bit - though some of the new versions could quite easily have been released as add-ons or cut-price expansion packs...
Still, I don't begrudge Cyanide the cash and understand why they do it...Konami, now that's a different matter.... |

CyM3, 4 and PCM 2005 and 2006 are very alike, PCM 2007 was a big change, while PCM 08 is very much like PCM 07 again |

Thanks, very interesting but it mkaes me wonder if there's any point in training Boom at all for the next few years- he has lots of potential stars but that's no use to me until he is thirty? |

Well. it could happen anytime. But until that time, there's not much use in training him. |

Potential stars means nothing as long as poor Boom has hit his prime, and I bet opening the savegame in an editor proves it. Cyanid have been given to much credit, the evolution of attributes in PCM08 is fairly static and as far as I've seen without any element of suprise. I've yet to see a rider not fullfill his potential, and can't tell any big difference between slow and explosive. |
