The cobbles are approaching in the continental tour. There are 6 cobbled races this season:
Omloop Het Volk
Nokere-Koerse
E3 Prijs
GP Herning
Slagelse CC
Cougar Mountain Classic
But who are the favourites?
Of last years big guns. Mattan and Merihaeghe have retired. Hammond has had a stat decrease and both Franzoi and Hoste are back in the ProTour. Riders moving down from the ProTour seem to be the best placed.
Geraint Thomas - Joining British Airways from Accumalux, the Brit is tipped to dominate many of the cobbled races, with a particular eye on Slagelse CC - Waghlon's home race. With Niels Albert, he has a great right hand man.
Magnus Backstedt - Procycling-BBC took the Big Swede on for his last season at the top and he has good support from Blythe and Hammond.
George Hincapie - Winner of last years Ronde van Vlaanderen, Hincapie is a threat but is only riding in America, so is limited to the Cougar Mountain Classic for NVidia.
Pieter Jacobs - Fed-Ex have the strongest cobbled rider who was in the continental tour last year but Jacobs has developed since his season at HealthNet where he was 9th in Omloop Het Volk and 14th in the E3 Prijs.
Tom Veelers - Armed with the strongest sprint of the cobbled riders, B&O's dutchman should use it well to score some strong results. He signed from La Gazetta and has support from Jempy Ducker, who signed from Accumalux.

Watch out for my 4 Cobble leaders:
Kavsek, Simunek, Joachim and Ingels
Yeah Hoping for a breakaway to stay out all day or a mass crash taking out the favorites in the las few Km...but it will be fun either way

Dave has a very good squad for a budget that was less than spectacular.

Big George really should have ridden the other classics
Hope Jacobs does well seeing as Dave Z worked out pretty well for me

Yeah why is big george not riding some of the other cobbled races, he surely would have been the favorite.

Big fat George will most likely take Cougar Mountain Classic as Thomas wont be there. Thomas will of course win the rest

The ProTour riders I have signed has really been doing great. Great 3rd by Drucker And awesome effort by Hammond to take back-to-back wins in Het Volk
Was Veelers caught in the split when Thomas hit the front or something?

Thomas appears to be a worthy sucessor to Mattan. "If only he'd put some more effort in (tm)"

Yup, British Airways and Fed-Ex were controlling the pace while the likes of Backstedt and Veelers were just too far down in the peleton. The gap appeared and was almost immediately at 2 minutesish.

Oh well, better luck next time I guess.
Also I been wanted to ask, the points system for this season, is that the same as the one stated in the 'Scoring' thread in the Results forum?

With Tirreno and Paris-Nice coming to a close, Nokere-Koerse is edging nearer and nearer. I just hope Veelers won't be caught in a split again, eventhough I have a feeling that will happen on the cobbled climbs. If he fails then I still have Drucker and Breschel
Geraint is going down! B)

I'd be surprised if Veelers didn't win something this season, he was certainly unlucky in the last races. Its a shame Irn Bru can't compete in the cobbled races, because I like them so much personally, but my best cobble rider is Meersman on 71
I think Nikki Terpstra is well underated in the man-game (he only has 63 cob) but I suppose he only really broke through this year |
