Should Cyanide give up the PCM-franchise?
henrikcomn
Its the same story. Every year. Bugs. Bugs. More bugs. Broken gamemodes. The list goes on. Even the graphic pretty much haven't evolved since 2011!

The review-score on metacritics have since 2007 ranged from a score of 48(!!) to to 74 (the 2011'edition) on a scale from 1-100.
This basically means that not a single PCM-game, in the last 10 years have been what you would call a good game. The users score on metacritics is a bit better but still not very impressive at all.
(I do know that the metacritic score of this game often is based on 5-6 reviews, but still...)

Would it be for the best if Cyanide just gave this franchise up? Hopefully a new developer would take over if that happens..

What do you guys think?

Personally, I would love if Cyanide pulled the plug.

HOPEFULLY! Just, no! I'd rather play a cycling game of 48% score then NOT PLAY A GAME! I do NOT think that any developer develop a game something like this. Stop the bugs, you won't even have A CAREER MODE if any developer comes to create a CYCLING GAME for the first time. I would NEVER risk that thing, if I had the chance.....

EDIT: Of course a developer could make the game much more better, but the risk is so high.

There have been other developers and they have pulled the plug already.
Nobody else would take the franchise if Cyanide would give up.

This whole discussion makes no sense because giving up is never a solution.
You can prove me differently by giving up this game or this discussion. Wink

In business, giving up on something that is not efficient is a viable solution, i know what i am talking about being an accountant/economist.

But that depends on sold copies and these are probably okay, as we continue to buy that shit again and again. Smile

I have voted no, but i think that customers should give up Cyanide, so they can pull heads out of their asses.
I'll be back

The main problem is the people here (including beta teams) are too complacent and understanding. I pushed super fucking hard to not have the Stage Editor released until it was fixed, but the morons came in with broken English and said "it good" over and over again. This is why shit never gets fixed--a bunch of really bad people more interested in calling their role important than fixing and improving the game get invited to these "beta tests".

U, out.

First of all, For the people who vote to drop it. Want to point out PCM is in the top 10 sold games this month on steam. Smile They won't stop it.

2nd of all. Tastes are different from person to person. PCM might not be the best game in the world but I play over 250 hours each year since PCM 05...

3rd of all, u expect Battlefield graphics or what? The graphics are great for a cycling game. In 2011, the graphics were in a whole other engine and they were worse. Don't try and point out that the graphics haven't changed since then. They have.

If u need more "of all"'s, call me.

They should not stop.
It's one of the best sports management game even with the yearly bugs.

First of all, I ask if people would like Cyanide to pull the plug. Not wether they will do, which obvious they won't, when sales are going high.

2nd of all, yes tast is different from person to person, and I have to enjoyed some of the games. But I ask you this: How can fans keep supporting this developer when they have never (NEVER EVER!!!!!) developed a good game based on reviewscore. Think about it. NEVER, in over 10 years! Not one single time, have they gotten professional reviewers to praise the game to earn them a good meta-score.

3rd of all, no I don't expect Battlefield 1 graphic???? But the fact that you think the graphic have changed significally shows how desperat you are to defend the game.

and at last. I want to like the game. But it blows my mind they can't make a good game.

Which other developer are you talking about??

Of course someone else would pick it up. Cyanide is making great sales of this game according to Steam. What could a good developer do to it then?

Giving the game up would be a solution, because then there is an empty market for cycling games, a market with some demand for it. Surely someone would like to profit of that.

I know Cyanide won't give up this game, as long as their player-base is to stupid and just keeps buying the game year after year.

Well, no other developer would pick it up. First off, it's the Tour currently, so that means that the sales will drop right after. Also, PCM really isn't that well placed.

Here's the top10:

and that's PCM:

It's positioned on P440.

PCM is really a niche game. If some developer would pick it up, it would probably even be a smaller developer. Why should some bigger developer pick up a game, which is only selling like most indie games. If we would stop buying the game, I think that Cyanide would drop the game and since no-one would pick up such a game, we would be here without nothing. One of my best friends, who's working as a programmer, said, that it simply wouldn't work, since no-one would create such a game, for lumpy 17k sold copys. That's why PCM is that expensive for a 3rd category game(1st cat is AAA, 2nd cat is mid-class) They need to charge 40€ for a game, which isn't really worth more than 15€. They know that they won't sell much.

The issue is that it isn't monetarily feasible if you aren't a mid-size EU company with nothing better to do. Darkshift Studios (Morten, a few other Danes, and myself) tried back in 2012 and we got cut short by the release of DirectX12 and lack of funds. It's a lot less possible to make it from scratch for a company with initiative, and nobody will divert effort to a niche product from a larger company. The issue is complacent adopters, not the developer of the game.

Hell no!

As a example as a big horse racing fan we had a critically acclaimed game called Gallop Racer 2006 but it didn't sell well the game was pulled and there has been 2 games since then one was a remake of an old game for next gen and one was a collaboration between the two companies that used to make one game a year each and it was awful

Trust me you do not want this game to stop being made because they will eventually get it right I mean I loved quite a few PCM and I'm sure they will make another good one soon

Why ask the question really, for most I would say the game is the reason you are here right now

Sport Games are hard to make, hard to make interesting and hard to be creative with. The Sport rules remain the same and things are done the same way.

The game has given so much joy to so many people and to see it be gone would be hard for me personally. Despite it's size it's a game where the players have a huge influence on the game and that is what makes PCM special.

Cyanide, lest we forget, is a French company and having the official TdF game on their books is such a big boost for them commercially in many ways. Every year they do, eventually, deliver a functional game that is admitedly constrained by licensing stuff and a lack of overall support because it is a niche market game.

You can't ask the question "should they give up PCM" without considering what the alternative would be. Which currently stands as us having no game at all, because no other serious company has ever expressed an interest in taking over the role from them.

Should Cyanide give up PCM? No, because it would hurt them as a business. No, because it would hurt us as cycling fans.

The last game I enjoyed was PCM 2011, it was actually quite a good game IMO.

You are right. The queation should have been: would you like a New developer to do This game?..

TheManxMissile
Would you likes a new dev to make "PCM"? Yes and No Pfft

No - Cyanide do actually quite a decent job in my opinion. They, after a "few" patches, deliver a game that works every year. Each year they do make the game slightly better and they do try and add something unique and major every couple of years. Ultimately the game does work and a lot of people put in a lot of hours. Can you really ask for more from a niche product?

Yes - We shouldn't have to settle for "decent" and "functional". As customers we have a right to ask for, hope for, better. We could all list of many games made by small groups that are amazing, we could all list niche games that are amazing. Why shouldn't we have an amazing cycling game as well! Every year i say the same, make FM but with cycling. Perhaps a new developer could do that.

Unfortunately unless someone steps up we'll never know. So i'll take my decent, functional and ultimately fun game each year and be happy and thankful i've got even that. (Now just ad Womens Cycling Pfft)

Well they obvious sell enough copies to continu making this game.
Though i think they better skip a year, I think all sports games should skip a year, But the money machine needs to keep on rolling.
Also i am happy with the new online thing, no armada,
Also actually they need different players, i really have no clue why some players play this game, if they cry, yeah fastforward, because the first 200km is borring blablabla. They should remove at least for online the x2 x100 option.

Butters76
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple

asoutar
According to Wikipedia Cyanide only has 70 employees!
Surely there are more skilled and motivated people on PCM websites around the world who would be willing to back a project invest time and money into making a game.

As for this: that would be utterly stupid you are virtually cutting your profits in half.
