The African season begins in Egypt and 14 teams will contest the stage race before some leave and others fly in to compete in the one day classic the GP el Sharm Sheikh which takes place after the stage race, which itself is largely based in Sharm Sheikh. An african equivalent to the Tour of Qatar, except more challenging since there is not only a TTT but an ITT aswell. The one day race is harder to predict due to a flat rating coupled with a profile that includes some hills - a surprise since the whole stage race is flat.
As expected, the field for the stage race is rich in sprinters.
British Airways' Aleksei Markov is in an advantageous position since he can both sprint and time trial but whether he will be the lead sprinter, Im not sure, with Kam-Po Wong and Anuar Manan both present (I dont know why Manan isnt riding in Langkawi instead)
Champion bring Jimmy Casper and Aitor Perez Arrieta.
Gatorade's team does not look like it contains any big sprinters, but they may pull off a shock with someone like Anastopoulos.
IrnBru have Chris Sutton, Erik Mohs and also TT specialists Grabovski and Day.
Someone please tell me why Molteni have brought Inigo Landaluze to this race. Ruben Bongiorno and Aitor Galdos are both threats in the sprint though.
Procycling's Ben Swift may not yet be able to fight it out for a victory in the sprint, but he can time trial well and the team should give Slipstream a run for their money in the TTT with the likes of Wiggins, Clancy, Jacques-Maynes, and Backstedt all here.
Speaking of Slipstream, the American team will look to face the threat to their TTT throne and have brought a similar line-up to the one who have ridden so strongly in Qatar. Juan Jose Haedo is a big favourite for the race, while Friedman will provide useful assistance. Jason Donald and Tom Zirbel lead the TT squad.
Finally, Wiggle will be led by Belarussian Aleksandr Usov.

I like my large big-up.
Usov is going to trash those sprints... or he'd better.

That would be okay ... if Langkawi had all 10 of its stages as Mountain stages, but it doesnt.
With the national bonus included, Manan would have been a huge favourite for all flat stages in Langkawi but in Egypt theres going to be a much tougher battle.

Well I thought it was common sense to send the best Malaysian sprinter to the Malaysian race with quite a few flat stages in it. It doesnt need a tactical genius

Strategical, not tactical. The difference is huge in this case.
Besides, ive done thet math:
7 stage wins, sprinter jersey = 80% chance of happening, awesome situation.
Chance of getting 5 stages with 3 top 5 positions and then scoring 3 top 10's = Chuck Norris and Mr. T awesome.

The TTT is going to be very interesting. Slipstream will be represented by Donald, Zirbel, Cozza, Duggan, Van Ulden, Friedman and Haedo. Not our best TTT squad but maybe Haedo can do it for us anyways with his golden sprint; However there is some stiff competition

I am not bringing much in the likes of TT, but im bringing Markov (72TT, 74 AC, 77SP), Manan (78 SP and AC) and Wong (77 SP, 78 AC) to attempt to dominate the sprints. The others are Bellis, Kaggestad, Mizbani and Feillu, alle with there TT's in the low 60's.

The riders have arrived in Egypt, admired the Pyramids, and pushed Pat McQuaid into the Nile, and are now ready to do battle.

You know what I've thought about it for a long time now and I'm going to get an army and take Hagen and Pliuskin from you. Then it will be so easy to win. *evil laugh*

Thats one hell of a wait for a season start
I expect the teams classification to get shaken up a lot when B & O get going. I mean, just how long can Irn Bru expect to be in the upper echelons? |

Donald comments that he is sick and tired of being beat by Wiggins and Lang by 1 second. Next one is his.
