I'm playing a career with Credit Agricole and I'm trying to fufill one of our season goals... winning the green jersey at the tour de france.
Things were going okay to begin with... Hushvold had a slim lead over McEwen, Boonen and Hausler going into the first set of mountains.
But then Valverde won two and got second in the third of the first mountain sprints. He's got the yellow obviously... and a 25 point lead in the sprinters competition.
To be honest I didn't notice he was competing in the other sprints, but he had racked up a lot of top 10 finishes in those as well.
Is this normal for other careers? Boonen and McEwen are both in top form... it's going to be very hard to build up any kind of lead over Valverde before the next set of mountains with them winning their share of the stages. I'm going to be very pissed if I miss a sponsor goal because of Valverde picking up sprinter points in the mountains. |

I did that, and whenever valverde is on forum in le tour, its nearly impossible to beat him.
Thats why i edit his form on the last tt day

I've won the points with him in the Vuelta, but not in the Tour, where there are two more mass sprints, so I'm suprised, but i don't think it would be impossible |

If one of the sprinters was dominating, he probably wouldn't be winning the points... but it's been spread out. Haussler won a stage, friere won one, Boonen won one, McEwen won one, Hushvold won one, and I think Davis might have won one.
Valverde is taking part in the mass sprints, and finishing between 7th and 15th or so. Then he's taking sprinting points from finishing high in the mountatin stages... where none of the pure sprinters get any points.
I just got done with the first set of mountain stages... hopefully I can make a dent in the flat stages before the next mountain sprints... but to be honest Husvold isn't doing too great in the flat stages. The only reason I had a point lead going into the mountains was he won a "hilly" stage that wasn't too bad toward the end while the other prime sprinters (other than Valverde) got no points, and he placed some well timed attacks for some intermediate sprints.
My only hope is that his form is 95 and on the way up... maybe some of the other top sprinters (and Valverde) have already peaked and will tail off. |

And what happens on the first flat stage after the mountains?
Valverde get's third behind winner Boonen and Husvold(my rider) in second.
So I gained all of 5 points on Valverde. There was a late hill that topped out 9km before the finish... so maybe that explains the high Valverde finish.
On a more positive note (for me), there was a crash approaching the finish line that caused Friere to abandon.
There are two early sprints in the next flat stage at 30 and 35 km... I think I may try to control the pace and grab some extra points with Hushvold. I'm going to have to battle for every point to get the green I think. |

I never go for the sprinters jerseys. I still get them in the mountains. You might just need to get a lot of Intermediate sprints.

I usually take most sprint wins but I don't care enough to go for intermediate sprints.

I'm good at getting my whole team in high spots so every time I go in a break it gets pulled in it about 1 minute.

Depends on how you define "mountains," I would say I am good on the hills, but mountains, I'm not sure |

Well... semi-success.
Boonen is on and took wins in all the flat stages between the two groupings of mountain stages. I was able to get seconds and thirds with Hushvold and Valverde finished a bit further back (around 10th). Thanks to a few intermediate sprints I was close behind Boonen... and ended up passing him in the first mountain stage as there was an intermediate sprint I was able to take with Husvold early in a stage.
But now we just got out of the mountains... and Valverde is ahead by about 25 points again. Boonen is only 7 points back.
This is going to be very difficult.
Normally I don't bother with the green jersey... but it's a sponsor goal for credit Agricole so I'm forced to make the effort.
I'll be okay with it if Boonen beats me... but I'll be very annoyed if Valverde does. I don't think it's incredibly realistic for him to win the points competition... or even finish ahead of guys like Petacchi, McEwen, etc. |
