2 Weeks ago I thought that I would still be at home preparing schedules Agritubel. But on the day that I was supposed to sign a 2 year deal in Paris I ran into an old friend:
It was Borat Sagdijev, the man who helped me get trough a crazy, yet fantastic time at Team Capec. When the team went bankrupt I lost touch with him until now. He asked me if I wanted to run along with him trough Paris and because the meeting was delayed for 2 hours I quickly got my outfit out of my briefcase and I ran along with him. We talked about the things in life, but then I started thinking and I came to the conclusion that Borat knew that I was here and that our 'meeting' couldn't be a coincidence...he needed me for something! So I asked him: 'Borat...why are you here in Paris on the same day that I need to sign a contract?' 'Contract? U signing contract today? 'Yes Borat and you know it!' 'Wowowii look at my rolex it's time to goo bye bye!' Mmm, weird but on I went to my meeting. Once I arrived there a valet parker told me that the meeting was delayed because a man with a moustache took a sh*t in the meeting hall. What was Borat trying to do? It almost looks like he wants to tell me that I shouldn't take the job. Then I went into the room which still smelled weird and I had a private talk with the GM of Agritubel, then all of a sudden !
Borat comes in with a boomerang and it hits the GM who quickly runs away...Borat locks the door and sits in front of me. At first I am scared but then he finally tells me what is going on: 'I have very importancy question for you, you know maybe that there iis a biggest team in Kazakhstan..Astana? "yes...' I ask you if you want to be leader of team to make glorious and benefit team of Astana? We pay veryy niice! At first I wanted to yell and scream but then I thought about all the good times I had with Borat...but I still wanted to know how he got in the highly secured meeting room. Well I just came running in with boombang and big hat and I use give guards physical painfully pain! That's my Borat! He gave me the contract and I signed it...now let's see what I got myself into
ASTANA
Team Goals:
-> Win the Tour de France
-> A Podium Spot in La Vuelta
-> Top 5 Placing in the Giro D'Italia
-> A Stage in the Tour of Germany
-> Top 3 in LBL
Difficult goals..here are the team's main stars:
Alexandre Vinokourov, 33 y.o.a: The Team Leader, he will go for the overall win the TDF and will use the Tour de Suisse as his preparation for that
Andrey Kascheckin, 26 y.o.a: A great rider who still has many years to come, will ride the Tour and perhaps the Vuelta (no one wants to ride the Vuelta )
Matthias Kessler, 27 y.o.a: April is going to be his month and he will also try to nick a stage in the Tour
Eddy Mazzoleni, 33 y.o.a: Will have a free role in the Giro and his schedule is focused on the Giro
Paolo Savoldelli, 33 y.o.a: He has lost his strength to battle for a top 5 position in the Giro but a stage is possible!
Andreas Kloden, 31 y.o.a: Last but not least, the 3rd guy in our 'Super Tour' squad, Andreas has also pointed out that he would like to ride the Giro and perhaps go for the podium there when he is in shape
Entire Squad:
Next up is the Australian RR Championship
Dwight K. Schrute: 'I'm not a hero. Im just a mere defender of the office. You know who is a hero? Hiro from Heroes. That's a hero. And Bono'.

Nah i meant just use him an a race like tour of qatar and have him in a breakaway. And use him like that in the career, i didnt mean in the races that mean something, unless he trains him up. |

what I'm saying is I think redondo is much better than what's in the DB
feel free to disagree, though

Well yeah i agree the DB is a bit screwed but if you train him up a bit he can still be a great rider. But really change the DB! |

according to Astana's Marc Biver, that's been a problem for the team actually

And yes it's StanosBase on Hard

Biver said almost the same...Kash will lead the team there "if he isn't too tired"

Well at 2 (actually 3) other forums where Im posting it those reports were quite popular (made a few of these when I had a Milram career once and then Borat interviewed the nr 89 during every Tour Stage) although I have to say that I simply lacked creativity in this one

All im saying is that there was more of the interview than the race. You should try doing a run down tho the race eg 50k to go, 30k to go, 20k, 15k, 10k, and so on. other than that im looking forward to the big stages, like tdf. |

Idd, and I never do reporting like that tbh
Tour Down Under, 6 Stages:
We stay in Australia for the Tour Down Under after Dmitry Muravyev told me that he really wanted to be here
Haselbacher and Bazajev are our main sprinters here whilst Rast is probably our man for the GC with Muravyev and Iglinski assisting him
Stage 1, Adelaide City Circuit:
Short criterium trough Adelaide and everyone seems to know that attacking in a short stage like this is pointless, I quickly realise that a top 5 in a sprint is already a tough job with the likes of Zabel, Peta, McEwen and Hushovd being present. But still we trust in Bazajev and Haselbacher and as everyone starts sprinting this is how everything looks like when they come out of the corner onto the last straight line
Ete looking very strong up front, Haselbacher is in the back indicated with a black arrow whilst Bazajev is on the left
Zabel stays up front whilst McEwen just comes up short, I marked Haselbacher with an arrow earlier because of his amazing comeback, look how close he even gets to the 3rd spot even though he had to come from far
Ete wins, but maybe Haselbacher is a force to be reckoned with during the next stage?
Result:
1. Erik Zabel Team Milram 1h01'46
2. Robbie McEwen Predictor - Lotto s.t.
3. Thor Hushovd Credit Agricole s.t.
4. Baden Cooke Unibet.com s.t.
5. René Haselbacher Astana s.t.
6 Alessandro Petacchi Team Milram s.t.
7 Jean-Patrick Nazon AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
8 Fabrizio Guidi Team Barloworld s.t.
9 Julian Dean Credit Agricole s.t.
10 Assan Bazayev Astana s.t.
11 Mirko Lorenzetto Team Milram s.t.
12 Matti Breschel Team CSC s.t.
13 Samuel Dumoulin AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
14 Alexandre Usov AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
15 William Bonnet Credit Agricole s.t.
16 Lloyd Mondory AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
17 Hans Dekkers Agritubel s.t.
18 Gorik Gardeyn Unibet.com s.t.
19 Matteo Carrara Unibet.com s.t.
20 Greg Van Avermaet Predictor - Lotto s.t.
21 Juan José Haedo Team CSC s.t.
22 Viktor Rapinski Navigators Insurance s.t.
23 Jonas Ljungblad Unibet.com s.t.
24 Martin Pedersen Team CSC s.t.
25 Matej Jurco Team Milram s.t.
Stage 2, Mawson Lakes - Angaston:
Today we had the first real stage where the the real sprinter had to put his team to work so that a sprint could be arranged, Milram and Predictor took care of this making sure that the break was neutralized 20 kms before the finish, the small hill 10 kms before the finish was also something that made it difficult but Haselbacher had no problems at unlike Bazajev who was struggling, the sprint starts and this Haselbacher is starting from a better position and with 250 ms to go we see this
Haselbacher on the front row next to Hushovd with McEwen on the other side and Zabel luring in Thor's wheel!
Haselbacher accelerates and is up front with 100 mtrs to go but then the old Zabel gets past him...
Zabel in shape as Haselbacher takes a very well deserved 2nd place!
Result:
1. Erik Zabel Team Milram 3h25'47
2. René Haselbacher Astana s.t.
3. Thor Hushovd Credit Agricole s.t.
4. Robbie McEwen Predictor - Lotto s.t.
5. William Bonnet Credit Agricole s.t.
6 Fabrizio Guidi Team Barloworld s.t.
7 Matti Breschel Team CSC s.t.
8 Baden Cooke Unibet.com s.t.
9 Guennadi Mikhailov Astana s.t.
10 Jean-Patrick Nazon AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
11 Lloyd Mondory AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
12 Alessandro Petacchi Team Milram s.t.
13 Samuel Dumoulin AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
14 Carlo Scognamiglio Team Milram s.t.
15 Matteo Carrara Unibet.com s.t.
16 Julian Dean Credit Agricole s.t.
17 Viktor Rapinski Navigators Insurance s.t.
18 Assan Bazayev Astana s.t.
19 Gorik Gardeyn Unibet.com s.t.
20 Alexandre Usov AG2R Prévoyance s.t.
21 Martin Pedersen Team CSC s.t.
22 Jonas Ljungblad Unibet.com s.t.
23 Greg Van Avermaet Predictor - Lotto s.t.
24 Juan José Haedo Team CSC s.t.
25 Rémi Pauriol Credit Agricole s.t.
Zabel leads the GC in front of Hushovd
