It's been only a few months since the last edition of the Lisbon Classic, which is now awaiting its third edition.
The profile is marked as flat, but offers some serious hills. With the last hill having its summit at about 10 km from the line, the main difficulties are early on in the race. For the last two years, late attacks, by Burghardt and Pozzato were successful. It might well end in a sprint too.
A large list of riders has chances of succeeding in a late attack.
| | FL | ACC | HI | | Cancellara | 82 | 71 | 70 | | Burghardt | 79 | 75 | 72 | | Gilbert | 79 | 74 | 79 | | Kneisky | 79 | 71 | 67 | | Kruijswijk | 78 | 75 | 72 | | Gasparotto | 77 | 76 | 70 | | Boasson Hagen | 77 | 79 | 85 | | Hermans | 77 | 73 | 75 | | Coppel | 77 | 74 | 74 |
Should a late attack fail, all is set for a sprint though. Many sprinters have actually headed here.
| | SPR | ACC | HI | | Lo Cicero | 84 | 78 | 64 | | Bewley | 83 | 83 | 71 | | Degenkolb | 83 | 81 | 69 | | Van Stayen | 83 | 77 | 76 | | Mohs | 83 | 82 | 63 | | Guarnieri | 82 | 81 | 66 | | Goss | 82 | 78 | 67 | | Tzortzakis | 82 | 79 | 65 | | Vanderbiest | 82 | 77 | 64 | | Avelino | 82 | 78 | 64 | | Van der Lijke | 78 | 79 | 75 | | Reimer | 77 | 80 | 75 | | Kump | 77 | 78 | 75 | | Tsatevich | 75 | 75 | 75 |
Of course, not all outsiders are listed here. They can be found on the startlist probably.

Seeing Bewleys performance so far, he will continue the winning.
This is his season. |

Should I be scared that Zabel aint even mentioned? Should mean we wont repeat last years win here.
I sent a mixture of ok hilly riders and Zabel here, hoping to ride 2 horses. Hopefully Venter or Mai joins a late attack while Zabel sits in the pack. That would be perfect for us.
Stayen and Boasson is my favorites, but someone like Reimer and Kump might steal it. Will be interesting to read, one of the more open classics imo

C'mon Burghardt!
Did consider to leave Goss at home. Actually thought I did so Don't think he will stand a chance, so I'm hoping for a tough elimination race with just the best roleurs (plus Bewley) surviving and then... bam.. Burghardt goes.
One can dream.
Bewley should win this.

I am really surprised i have not sent Ignatiev to this race, as it is tailor made for him and he would be sure top5 candidate. Strange, most likely he run out of race days...
This should be too hard for Guardini, so i hope for Grosu hanging on and sprinting for top15 or for a late Nolf attack.
Bewley has this.

Bewley and van Stayen are the obvious favorites here. No doubt about that.
I really hope that I can do something here. Having three riders mentioned in the preview should bode well, but to be honest I fear that we will fail miserably.

Come on Gilbert. Think I've got nothing here though. Bewley is gonna win every race this season.

Yeah I have the double threat of Fab and Dan qatar no sprint Holloway. Both did quite well at Milan San Remo so hoping for another decent showing here.
Frankensteins monster under pressure to deliver here for me.

Having Boasson Hagen mentioned, but no Kristoff maybe tells a lot about who I need to trust here
He was 10th here back in 2013, but behind Impey who was also top 10. If it comes down to a sprint, fingers are crossed we can produce something similar. If it doesn't, I really hope Boasson Hagen will be attentive to attacks and maybe try one himself.
Really a wide open race, Van Staeyen is the slight favourite for me due to his great hill stat. Looking a lot forward to the report!

Hmm, Bewley better continue winning here. Van Stayen and EBH are bigger favourites for me though.

Looking forward to this, atleast we got mentions in the preview even if it´s PT race, would be nice to see either Hermans attack or Reimer sprint well.
It looks like EBH has Swedbank micro jersey and Hermans has Akers,
well Ember have we made a deal switchings those two? Thats a deal I say yes to |

Thanks for the report, Selwink!
Pretty happy with the result and race itself. Burghardt on the attack was all I could have asked for. A pity he couldn't hold on, but he tried and that's fine. With a slightly better daily form, he might have scored a few more points then..
With Burghardt "failing", it's pretty cool to see Goss finall living up to his status as the reigning world champion. A 5th place for him is definitely above my expectations (given the season's results so far). Huge win for Holloway though. Beating Bewley must feel extraordinary awesome

Ulissi continuing to be consistent, i hope he can do this in the hilly classics aswell, and not just in these flat classics. He completely flopped in Badaling, but he did very well in Paris-Nice, so i'll just have to wait and see. Also a good performance from Viviani, finishing in the top 20.
Thanks for the report, Selwink!

Decent result here. Coppel claimed a bit of the points he lost in the TT race back, while Tzortzakis wasn't good at all...
Not a good result, but a decent one.

Degenkolb 21th. Fuck.
Is there any other constantly underperforming team through whole season?

Terrible, terrible result for Metinvest. Grosu 125th, wtf? Just a race to forget and move on closer to cobbled monuments.
Thanks for the report and congrats to Red Bull, finally someone has beaten Bewley, even when it was because of his "mistake".
