Welcome to Rise of a Phoenix.
Rise of a Phoenix is a short story, which will consist of 10 episodes. The 10 episodes will follow one rider, Joaquim RodrÃguez, in an ambitious effort to go where few men have gone before. More on that in Episode 1.
However, don't expect a regular (short) story about the Spanish star. I'll let you find out the details yourself as the story goes along.
I will start this story with the Prologue and (a little later) Episode 1 today. After which, I hope to release one episode every 2 or 3 days, completing the story in - hopefully - under a month. The gameplay has all been completed and the storyline is finished, so it's just a matter of writing it down and editing the screenshots.
Rise of a Phoenix uses the PCM.Daily Expansion Pack for Pro Cycling Manager 2014 and takes place in the 2014 season.

@Shonak - Ah, I know the lady with the beard. However I don't watch the song festival so I never heard the song. But yeah, it's not unthinkable she's singing about my story, I can live with that.

It was early July 2014.
Joaquim RodrÃguez was in his 15th year as a professional cyclist. Coming up as the ultimate lieutenant to Alejandro Valverde, he managed to step out of Valverde's shadow and lead a team himself.
What followed was more than impressive; a win in Flèche Wallonne, two victories in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, stages in Tirreno - Adriatico, over 30 professional victories, a stage in the Tour and back-to-back victories in Il Lombardia to round it off.
He had a near miss in the Giro d'Italia of 2012, losing the leaders' jersey in the final time trial to Ryder Hesjedal.
He lost the Vuelta 2012 after an impressive coup by Alberto Contador, finishing 3rd in Madrid.
In 2013, Joaquim held off Alberto Contador for the podium in the Tour de France, finishing third after Froome and Quintana.
His career up to this point was more than impressive. But the 35-year old still had one race highlighted. One last missing link to his career.
One race, that would - for him - make or break his palmares. Time was ticking away, and this would be his last chance.
The Tour de France 2014 offered an exciting profile, to say the least. For RodrÃguez, it was a final chance to win the race. The many mountain stages would play into his advantage. But the cobbled stage to Arenberg and the 53 km time trial at the end could pose major problems for the light Spaniard.
Early July 2014, Joaquim RodrÃguez was ready to take on the three toughest weeks of his career. In the Tour de France 2014, he had one last date with history. Win the Tour de France, or die trying. |

The Tour de France 2014 was about to start. The Grand Départ was set in Great Britain, with three stage seperating the Tour de France from the continent. Leeds hosted the start of the 101th edition of the Tour.
The Tour de France 2014 saw an impressive list of participants. RodrÃguez' chances were slim, looking over the startlist.
Chris Froome was the defending champion. A powerful time trialist and a more than successful climber, Froome was the absolute favorite to take his second Tour. His supremacy in the mountains and against the clock meant it would be hard for anyone to take time on him.
Alberto Contador still had something to prove after a doping suspension. The Spaniard was keen on adding another Tour victory on his palmares. An in-shape Contador was a tough thing to beat. When a rider is strong, both physically and mentally, there isn't a lot to do against him.
Nairo Quintana was one of Colombia's finest export products. The pocket climber had managed to finish 2nd in the previous edition and would now return, hoping to take one step up.
Overall, it was believed this would be the podium in Paris. The exact places would be hard fought for, but those 3 were out of reach. Lagging behind was a wide variety of riders. Bardet, Pinot, Péraud, Van Garderen... All those could fight for a spot just off the podium. In many predictions, the name Joaquim RodrÃguez popped up on the places 4 to 10. But RodrÃguez didn't came to the Tour for a 4th place.
RodrÃguez had 21 days to beat Froome, Contador and Quintana. His impossible campaign started in Leeds, with the Grand Départ.

I can only see two ways Purito wins. 1. Froomebot, Contasteak and Nairo all crash out. 2. Pre-Tour training camps.
Although Ian probably has a third reason up his sleeve.
