So here I am with yet another game. I admit many of my games (the ones which never worked) I only spent a few hours thinking about. But this one I have spent a month or more preparing, and chatting to other members. All my focus is on this, for various reasons.
Another thing it is plain to see, is that this is openly inspired by Ian Butler's fantastic game, Cyclo-Cross: A New Dawn, of which I am an avid player. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go check it out. Now. Before you even read this. Go.
Ian has read through this and given me the green light to go ahead, so long as it doesn't end up as a carbon copy of CX: AND
I'd really like to thank Ian and trekbmc with their advice and guidance, trek helped me shape the sign-ups and Ian was aforementionedly an amazing general help. Thanks guys!

Welcome
Triathlon
Triathlon is a multi-sport event, but unlike pentathlon and such, it is an all-in-one race, consisting of a swim, a bike and a run, in that order.
Triathlon is raced over various distances, the four most common being Sprint, Olympic, Long and Ironman. For more on triathlon, click here
Premise
This will be up to the (in-game) experienced racers to imagine, or ignore, but here it is, for the most part:
The ITU (International Triathlon Union) have put in action a plan which has been developed over the last two years. The sport is now more compact and popular, or that's the plan. However, they are staying true to many of the facets of triathlon. The main change is the re-introduction of the World Cup, rebranded as the Hyundai World Cup. This will have a bigger pay, more varied distances and a bigger spectacle around the races, but the World Series still carries the prestige of becoming World Champion! They are also introducing the most prestigious races, ODCs (One Day Classics). These are some of the most prestigious races in the calendar.
Spoiler
Obviously a third series will be introduced if interest is medium-high
The Game
The results of the game will not be run by any program, but the factors will be stats, conditions, tactics and, most importantly, your role-playing. You can't go spamming the thread in hopes to increase your stats, or release a blog stating you now are the best athlete the world has ever seen, but activity and training are very much parts of it.
In my opinion, the game has two main sides:
Role-Play
The most important thing in the game is having by fun and using your imagination in role-play, I have no idea how this will turn out, and that's fine. You can influence your results, but keep it real.
If you're looking for a way to play on this side, either take inspiration from the other players, even if you ask them I'm sure they'll help you out, or use one of these common ideas:
Interview - As either yourself or the interviewer, this is a great way to play, and get things off your chest without directly starting the conversation, the interviewer can do that.
Blog - Could just be what's happening in your life, could be a review, could be a preview of your races.
Send a message to your rivals - Challenge them, take them down of their high horse. It all depends on your rider's character. Don't worry, if your rider is arrogant, nobody will take it as a reflection on you around the site.
Training - Tell us publicly what you've been working on.
Decisions
So this is still role-playing, but it done by PM (unless you decide to make it public) and involves the gamerunner (me) or the role-player (you) initiating some random events. It will usually be me PMing you if your rider is sick, injured, argument with the management, or if I want to know if you have any preference of how your young protege are to progress. Of course, you can't completely dictate it but you can tell me how you would like it. You can also tell me how you would like your rider to rain during this break between races. This doesn't have to be a weekly program or anything, just say '_____ needs more swim training, so focus on that'.
Whether you deny the event, bluff or admit is up to you, and this will also affect your hidden stats.
The way you improve won't be like the man-game, etc, with linear upgrades, but shown in your results and aforementionedly partly up to you.
Overall this side of the game can be as big as you like.
Other Ways to Play
Obviously I probably only know 10% if the ways to realistically play, but here are some integral, but not required, ways:
Tactics - They are definitely not required and don't improve your riders/activity, but it does tell me how you want your riders to try and act. This can be as detailed as "I want to pick the spot on the pontoon closest to the first buoy" to "stay safe on the swim".
Journalism - As showcased in Cyclo-Cross: A New Dawn, some players have also written journalistic pieces, whether about their riders or in general, most notably SportingNonsense and Shonak, sorry to pick you guys out .
Activity
The big deal with activity, and I know it's hard to predict, but I'd like all the people who create completely top triathletes to be prepared go at least follow and update or send in tactics once in a while. I understand the situation at the moment with MG transfers looming, and as a manager myself we'll go slow or take a break from this completely during busy periods.
Depending on interest, I'm fine with pack-fillers being created just to help, not to play.
Sign-Ups
Sign-Ups are now open until an adequate number of riders are in the game. You can, of course, try to enter late and if your motivation is high you can replace a pack-filler, most probably one of the bots I will create if interest isn't high enough.
Riders
I'm looking for about 5-7 top triathlete due to the Ironman being involved in a small part and maybe another 5-10 secondary racers. You can enter one top athlete if you wish and maybe with that one/two tertiary racers, who might get 8th on a course that suits them.
If interest is low you may be able to have a top and a secondary triathlete. If you do enter multiple OP triathletes, I'll adjust them myself, but I'll probably PM you to find your favorite. I'll put a limit at 5 racers for now, but be aware not all of them may get in, depending on interest.

Name: Karel Vandecastele
Nationality: Belgium (Flanders - Ghent)
DoB: 11/01/1982
H/W: 183 cm - 73 kg
Short Bio: Karel was born in Ghent, into a modest Flemish family. With an old-school dad, Karel was forced to play outside most of the time, and so he really got into sport. At home, they didn't have a fancy bike, but an old family racing bike proved lots of fun.
Karel got his diploma in Mathematics and had a good job, but remained to work hard on his favorite sports: cycling and running. At the age of 28, he decided to try and add swimming, to make a triathlon. Karel started working part-time to train hard.
Now, yet again four years later, Karel decided to quit his job and try to make it in the professional world of triathlon. This will be his debut year as a professional. A little over 30 years old, it's a good age to really jump into triathlon, which requires some maturity.
Racing Details:
Strengths: Stamina. Both on the bike and running, Karel hardly ever feels his legs once he gets into his tempo.
Weaknesses: Swimming. Karel always hated going into the water. Even now, his swimming lacks the finising touch of technique and he loses lots of time swimming. Either he loses time or he loses too much energy swimming fast without breathing right.
Specialty: Cycling
Changing: 7 (5 from water to bike, 9 from bike to running)
Swimming Stats:
Speed: 4
Endurance: 8
Physicality: 7
Preferred Water Temperature: Warm-ish
Stroke Style: front crawl (technique: 3)
Ian - Sweet as!
Scattershot - Perfect!
Ian #2 - Zabl'd! Perfect too, looks like a strong racer! Surprised it wasn't Willy Wouters though

Place: Watersportbaan.
Bike Information:
Flat: 9
Uphill: 1

Other details: Riding a big part on the outer ring of Ghent, and then turn back on the other side of the ring, so it's constantly practically flat and straight.
Run Information:
Flat: 10
Uphill: 0
Final Straight: +500m
Length of lap: 5km (exactly 5 km = the run around the Watersportbaan)
Other Details: A new race, based purely on stamina and power. The swimming is straight, the cycling is almost straight and the running is in a big circuit with no changing altitude. The perfect race for at the start of the season, to warm up, so to speak.
The Watersportbaan is a populair place for runners, as it's exactly 5 km around it. Now the city of Ghent decided to host a triathlon in and around the Watersportbaan. They cleaned up the water and now it's ready!

Personal Detail:
Name: Martino Borelli
Nationality: Italian
DoB: 17/4/1992
H/W: 177cm, 83kg
Short Bio: A background in football means that Martino is as fit as they come, and by growing up on a daily ritual of swimming a kilometre a day in the Mediterranean has him all set for swimming. Martino will look to be among the best triathletes in the world this season, bringing trademark Italian arrogance to the sport.
Racing Details:
Strengths: Extreme weather (hot or cold), Super fit
Weaknesses: Slow changer, Not focused
Specialty: Running
Changing: 4
Wow, everyone is submitting real young athletes.
I thought triathlon was a sport where you're still young if you're under 30, was I mistaken or will Karel own this season with all these young fools?

Yeah I can only really think of the Brownlees recently who had real success at such a young age. But Karel is fairly new to triathlon as well apparently
Everyone who submitted something - Thanks, you're all fine!
TMM - Yeah I think it was a bit of both and it's fine that you can't play, but cheers for helping with courses!

If I submit more athletes they will be older, but the Lipawsky brother have to be young.

Name: Dylan Phillips
Nationality/Region: Central Otago, New Zealand
Dob: 25/8/1994
H/W: 178/71
Bio: Growing up in the beautiful and rugged Central Otago you are spoilt for choice of sports, but Dylan was always a natural at triathlon, in particular biking and running. However, once he got to Junior ranks he got plenty of training at swimming. He is also the New Zealand fell running champions so on a hillier run he could be a major threat.
A friendly, funny Kiwi bloke off the course, and sometimes on it, when Dylan slips on his sunglasses he has the perfect stone cold poker face. At only 20, he has plenty of maturing to do but watch out for this youngster.
Strengths: Jack of all trades (weather in particular) + ? + ?
Weaknesses: Inexperienced + ?
Specialty - Running + Cycling
Changing: 8 from swim to bike, 5 from bike to swim
Swimming:
Speed: 6
Endurance: 6

Nationality/Region: California, United States of America
DoB: 7/9/1972
H/W: 192/83
Bio: There's a feeling of 'one more year' surrounding the legendary triathlete Austin Ferrari. His legs can't go up the hills like the new generation, but boy does he have priceless experience. He is technically the best rider still, and his endurance is second to none. His tried and tested tactic still works on the flatter courses, and you can underestimate him at your peril.
Strengths: All-Rounder, Experience
Weaknesses: Hills, Penalty Prone (his other nickname, Zero, is due to the amount he cares about the environment)
Specialty: Swimming, still the best in the bunch, Flats
Changing: 10
Swimming:
Speed: 8
Endurance: 9
Physicality: 10
Preferred Water Temperature: Indifferent
Stroke: Butterfly with freestyle mixed in on longer courses
