Orica-GreenEDGE strives not to be just a cycling team, but a family. The team is very transparent, and we love to share everything that goes on within the side. At other HQ's, you'll find just the standard, news and race reviews. Here, you will find rider blogs, special features, exclusive interviews with riders and staff, in-depth analysis of races and race tactics, and of course all the team's news.
We aim to be the most transparent team in the peloton. We want you to know everything that goes on at the team. We also aim to a top squad in all areas of the sport by 2017. We are already well-rounded, and now it is time to improve.

Thoughts on Team Mates and Transfers- with Mitchell
We are slowly nearing the end of the transfer season and so far it has been crazy. Riders coming and going at such a rate it is hard to keep up. But I have now caught up on the transfers of my team and this is what I have to say.
The only riders I care about that have joint the team are Anacona, Evans, Moinard and Trofimov. I assume Moinard has joined the team as an allround domestique and that is the same with Anacona and I congratulate you on these two transfers. Yuri Trofimov is an interesting transfer because although he is a good climber he is not a very strong time trialist. Cadel Evans is also a very nice signing, he is ageing but still a strong stage racer who I am guessing will lead the team in the Giro?
In terms of GT leadership. With the team as it currently is I am assuming that Cadel lead the team in the Giro while Meyer leads in the Tour and me in la Vuelta. Alternatively Cadel riders the Tour in support of Meyer and Diego leads the Giro. I don't mind as long as I lead the Vuelta. I know Diego is a good climber but he is weaker than me in other areas. Here are our stats for you to compare and decide:
First Name | Last Name | Nationality | Age | | Type | | FLA | MO | HIL | TT | PRO | COB | SPR | ACC | DH | ATT | END | RES | REC | Mitchell | Birt | Aussie | 24 | | Stage Racer | | 72 | 75 | 74 | 74 | 71 | 60 | 65 | 72 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 74 | 70 | Diego | Johnson | Peruvian | 24 | | Stage Racer | | 70 | 80 | 75 | 75 | 70 | 61 | 60 | 70 | 65 | 64 | 70 | 65 | 66 |

Race Suggestions and Goals for 2014
Hello Mr Oger,
As we near the end of the transfer season and the start of the racing season I would like to make you a few suggestions as to my Calendar for the 2014 season.
Santos Tour Down Under
I know this is probably one of the most important races for the Orica team because it is the only home race the team has but it would be an honour to ride there this season whether it be as a domestique or leader. One of my career goals is to win this race and experience in it will bring me one step closer to this goal.
Volta a Catalunya
I would like to ride in this Spanish stage race. Mainly to get me used to riding in Spain which I have in the past thrived in. I also feel as if I would be a good choice here because our top stage racers would be able to ride Paris-Nice or Tirreno-Adriatico. If you want you could swap Catalunya for one of those two.
Tour of California
I know that it is a CT race but it is during the Giro d'Italia which I shall not be riding so therefore is somewhere myself and the others can go to get good race time. In the 2013 version of this race I won the first stage and wore the leaders jersey. I ended up finishing just outside the Top 20 but that was because I was a domestique. If I lead here I believe I can bring good success.
Australian National RR and TT Championships
I believe that I should take part in the TT because I am our 5th best TT rider. If more than 3/4 can be sent I hope to see my name on that list. The RR in Australia is always unpredictable and if I attack early on in the race I could bring a very suprising result so I think I am worthy of a spot in the team.
Continental RR and TT Championships
Again, I feel I am worthy of this spot but if not it is not too big of a deal. Would just be nice to have a chance to be involved in the race.
Osterreich Rundfahrt
I know this may seem like a strange request but in the 2013 version of this race I finished 6th in the General Classification and got at least 4 Top 10 finishes. It is a race which suits my ability and I would like to lead the team here with support from the younger of our riders. It is also during the Tour de France which means I can keep my race fitness up in preparation for la Vuelta.
Tour de Pologne
I believe that myself and Simon Clarke should ride the Tour de Pologne with a majority of the Vuelta squad as our final preparation. It is a preparation race for most Vuelta riders and I believe it will give us a good chance to find a few of the weaknesses of the leaders and how to expose these in Spain.
Vuelta a Espana
Obviously you already have me down for this race but I will put it here anyway. I really enjoy racing in Spain and after two stage wins in the 2013 Vuelta I believe I can stay on my bike to ride a good GC, a Top 10 is this year's goal and who knows, I may even do better. I am really looking forward to this race and hopefully I can achieve a great result for the team.
My Goals:
-Top 10 GC in la Vuelta a Espana + 1 Stage Win
-Top 10 GC in the Tour de Pologne
-Top 15 GC in the Santos Tour Down Under
-Top 5 GC in the Tour of California
-Top 3 GC in Osterreich Rundfahrt
-5 Stage Wins This Season (3 in WT)
I look forward to hearing from you,
Mitchell Birt

Joining the team with Davide, we are very happy to have added Winner to the team, and with a name like that, we hope he can deliver. Winner may well get his opportunities to lead, but is more likely to play a support role in both our classics and mountain squads. He will likely do most of his racing in the Giro d'Italia and the spring classics.

Ok then. Very manageable goals I feel. Although it may be hard to split P-N/Tirreno now. Planning time

Hey Boss,
What races are you wanting me to do for this season part? I want to be team leader at the Giro or Vuelta as I think I need to gain experience at being team leader in a grand tour.
Thanks
Diego

Just looking at the team goals I would like to ride in Langkawi and Paris Nice, as I feel that I can help the team to achieve its goals in these races, and I think it would be good preparation for the Giro which I want to lead as I believe that it is a route that suits me, and I feel that I would be more likely to have a chance of the GC win or maybe a stage win.
I hope this is ok as I know that it is different to what I said before, but I want to make sure that I get the best preparation.
What do you think?
Diego

Silvio: Well I think it's safe to say that P-N will have a much better field
Diego: As I said before you will ride and lead the Giro, being supported by Cadel. In this season part I want you to race San Luis, Langkawi and Paris-Nice. All good?
