AS Pharmacie Centrale de Tunésie
Pharma Tunésië is a small team which will only ride in Africa, at least this season. It's one of the two Tunesian teams and it consists only of riders of that nationality. We don't have world class riders, far from that. Don't expect many good results, also because I will play in Hard mode.
The most important rider of the team is, as you see, Ben Nasser, the rest of the riders will have difficulties staying with the pack each race. Ben Nasser is a world class allrounder (in Africa), so it's his task to score victories and to please the sponsor. He is also very young, 20 years, and he can grow for a while. Another talented boy is Fatnassi, only 18 years old.
The season goals of 2007 are:
- Score a stage victory in the Tour of Libya
- Get a top - 10 spot in General Classification of the Tour de Maroc
- Wear the leaders jersey for at least one day in the Tour of Egypt
- Get a top - 10 spot in the Grand Prix of Sharm el Sheikh
- Get a top - 5 spot in General Classification of the Tour de Faso
As said earlier, Ben Nasser has to achieve all these goals, but that will be difficult. Most of the races are in spring, Tour de Maroc is in June and Tour du Faso is in October / November.
Please correct me on grammatical errors, I want to learn more English too |

I won't post that many screens, because the graphics of PCM aren't that nice. It will be around 1 per post (this report is an exception). Thanks for the replies!
La Tropicale Amissa Bongo Ondimba
Stage 1
The first stage of this race is about 50 km in length and nearly flat. There are only a few small bumps, which won't have any impact on the race. Merdassi joins the breakawaygroup, but they are all taken back. Ben Nasser is an outsider for the final sprint, and he can jump to a good 7th place. The first decent result of the season!

Stage 2:
The second stage is longer, 140 km, and has a few small hills at the end of the race. Ben Nasser is good enough to get over them without any problem, and so he can sprint for a good place again. He couldn't follow Auger of Francaise des Jeux, who wins with a solo, but he becomes second of the peloton! Ben Nasser is in good form right now and he is proving it!
Sorry, no results, forgot to export
Stage 3:
This stage is shorter again, only 80 kilometres. There are a few hills though, but despite of that this stage is going to end in a bunch sprint again. Tunés didn't have anyone in the breakaway, and that was a good choice, because the group at the front was taken back long before the finish. Ben Nasser is again well - placed, but he isn't a real sprinter, and cannot get passed the quickest men in the peloton. Again a third place for him, he is riding very strong this early in the season!
Stage result:

2 Douglas Ryder MICROSOFT SA CYCLINGTEAM s.t.

La Tropicale Amissa Bongo Ondimba
Stage 4:
This flat stage (110 km) has one cobbled section of 1 kilometer, just 10 kilometres before the finishing line. Ben Nasser, our leader, will try to break away there, riding on cobblestones is one of his specialities. He also trains much on them. At the beginning of the section Ben Nasser is at the very front of the peloton. His attack gives him some space, but it's not enough to hold on to the finish. It wouldn't be rewarded with a stage win anyway, because the early breakaway arrives two minutes earlier than the peloton. The Frenchman (?) Bousseau is the fastest of the small frontgroup.
Stage result:
1 Alexandre Bousseau VENDÉE U - PAYS DE LA LOIRE 2h57'22
2 Sylvain T. Ilboudo SOFITEX s.t.
3 Valentin Iglinski CYCLING TEAM CAPEC s.t.
14 Hassen Ben Nasser AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE +2'01

107 Yassine Missaoui AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE s.t.
108 Mehdi Ben Khedija AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE s.t.
127 Wajdi Dridi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 6'54
General classification:
1 Ludovic Auger FRANÇAISE DES JEUX 10h04'29
2 Hassen Ben Nasser AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 1'01
3 Mickaël Chérel FRANÇAISE DES JEUX + 1'05
119 Ahmed Ben-Maatoug AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 21'57
125 Hamdi Touhami AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 27'09
126 Sami Merdassi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 29'09
127 Mehdi Ben Khedija AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 29'21
130 Yassine Missaoui AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 32'17
131 Wajdi Dridi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 33'25
Etappe 5:
Just as yesterday, the 5th stage is totally flat for 110 kilometres. The difference is the surface of the road, this time the riders won't have to pass a cobbled section. Touhami jumps away with a few others to fight for the stage, but they are all taken back 10 kilometres before the line. Ben Nasser is again in a good postion in the sprint. He chose the wheel of the fastest sprinter, MacDonald, but cannot get over him. MacDonald takes the stage, Ben Nasser takes another third place, and because of the bonification he gets some closer to Auger again.
Stage result:
1 Neil MacDonald MICROSOFT SA CYCLINGTEAM 2h43'22
2 Julian Dean CRÉDIT AGRICOLE s.t.
3 Hassen Ben Nasser AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE s.t.
115 Sami Merdassi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE s.t.
121 Hamdi Touhami AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 2'46
128 Ahmed Ben-Maatoug AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 4'04
129 Wajdi Dridi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 6'03
132 Mehdi Ben Khedija AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 6'59
133 Yassine Missaoui AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE s.t.
Etappe 6:
The last stage is more difficult than the stages before, with a big hill 20 kilometres before the finish. Ben Nasser would end up high in a bunch sprint, but won't score a victory that way, so he is going to attack on that hill. The breakaway of the day has a good timegap with the peloton, so Ben Nasser has to ride very hard if he wants that stage victory. And he does! With 4 kilometres to go, he arrives at the back of the group. The early escapers slow him down for a little time, which costs valuable time. Without a problem he leaves the front group, and he finishes solo. A beautiful win, but he is 15 seconds to slow for the overall classification, which is a bit of a disappointment on a beautiful day. Anyway, Ben Nasser ends up in a good 2nd place overall, I didn't expect that at the beginning of this race!
Stage result:
1 Hassen Ben Nasser AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE 3h10'44
2 Julian Dean CRÉDIT AGRICOLE + 28
3 Neil MacDonald MICROSOFT SA CYCLINGTEAM s.t.

122 Yassine Missaoui AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 3'26

Yeah, didn't feel to well about it. Thanks for the reactions though!
Transfer news
Today AS Tunésie presents a new rider: Rafaâ Chtioui. Ofcourse he is born in Tunésie. Chtioui is a very good rider compared to our other cyclist and he will be a big leader for us. His speciality is riding against the clock. Our new rider is only 20 springs old, so he has a long cyclingfuture, with Tunésie we hope, in front of him. We hope he can score some really good victories this year!

Thank you!
Tour de Egypt
The first goal in this season is the Tour de Egypt. Ben Nasser have to keep our hopes high, he will be the teamleader. It will be a difficult job though, because all stages are totally flat, and there are some much better sprinters than Ben Nasser in this Tour.
Stage 1
The first stage is a prologue, covering just 6 kilometres. Our team performance was nothing to be proud off, only Ben Nasse is doing oke with a 17th place. He still has chance to wear the leaders jersey later on in this Tour.

126 Sami Merdassi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 52
129 Wajdi Dridi AS PHARMACIE CENTRALE DE TUNÉSIE + 1'02
Stage 2
The programme this day features 175 kilometres riding in desert with high temperatures. Luckily most riders are African and used to this type of weather. This stage will most likely be the first chance for the sprinters to snatch a victory. Of course the break away group doesn't agree on that, and this time they succeed in their plan. They end up just before the peloton, no time gap but David Willemsens gets his victory this way. Ben Nasser didn't sprint today, it was only for a 13th place, so he decided to spare himself for later stages.
Stage result:

Stage 3
Once again a flat stage (130 km) without a single meter of climbing or descending. This time the early escapers don't hold on till the finishing line, instead of that the stage will be decided in a bunch sprint. Ben Nasser sets himself in the wheel of the, on paper, strongest sprinter of this Tour, Metluchenko. Metluchenko is sprinting very well, he comes out of the wheel of his helper just on time and is now sprinting for victory. Or can Ben Nasser pass him? He tries, but he is by far not strong enough. Instead of coming closer, the wind blows him somewhat backwards, so that he only scores a 3rd place. Metluchenko doesn't win either, it's Serebriakov who passes him in extremis.
Stage result:

Etappe 4
This stage is a team time trail of about 10 kilometres. Of course it's totally flat this time. Tunésie has to limit the damage, that wil be hard enough. We are starting first and Ben Nasser is at the front for nine of the ten kilometres. Only 2 times another rider stands in for him. Ben Nasser and Tunésie are doing oke, but other teams destroy the time we have set. Ben Nasser can from now on only dream of a day in the leaders jersey.

No racism please
Tour de Egypt
Stage 5
More of the same, must have been the thought of the race organisation, because this stage is again flat. The only difference with the other stages is that there is a little pyramid not far of the starting point. It's Ben Nasser's task to be on top of that first, so he can take the mountainsjersey, for what it's worth, home. From the start on, Ben Nasser attacks and only one other rider can follow. Not more than that though, Ben Nasser is first and takes all the points. After that he lets it go and join the peloton again. He is less succesfull in the sprint, because of bad management he only ends up in 10th place. Serebriakov takes another win, before Metluchenko.
Stage result:

Stage 6
The riders have to ride 181 flat kilometres today, before they can relax again. Dridi joins the breakaway, but the front group is taken back way before the finishing line. The stage will be decided in another sprint finish. Ben Nasser again doesn't place himself too well, but with some luck he is in the front when the sprinting starts. He doesn't have the power to win, but instead scores a decent 5th place. Metluchenko finally takes his win, he took the stages with two fingers in his nose.

Stage 7
For the second time we ride to an from Sharm el Sheikh, tomorrow will be the third time and the one day race the day after this tour will also run from and to this holiday resort. The stage is only 130 kilometres this time, so much time to lay on the beach for the riders. Ben Nasser tries to be the first in the water, he breaks away in the final, but with 1.5 kilometres to go he is taken back by the peloton. He finished 11th. Metluchenko again wins and he ensures his leading position in the general classification.

Stage 8
The last stage has a length of 150 kilometres. It's the last chance for a victory for our riders. Again the stage will be decided in a bunch sprint. Ben Nasser fights for the wheel of Metluchenko, and he succeeds! But of course this day Metluchenko lost the form of the past stages and only ends up fourth. Ben Nasser doesn't have the power to jump out of his wheel and finishes fifth. Zaitsev wins the stage, it looks like a domination of East Block sprinters in Egypt. We just couldn't grab the stage win we were hoping for in the Tour de Egypt and we cannot please our sponsor. They still have much confidence in me as a leader though, so nothing to worry about.

Thanks mate!
Grand Prix of Sharm el Sheikh
We hired the entire hotel in Sharm el Sheikh for one more day, because we are also going to compete in the Grand Prix of Sharm el Sheikh, a one day race in the hills surrounding this beautiful place. Ben Nasser has to be good here, because the sponsor wants us to achieve a top - 10 place. Chtioui will ride his first meters for our team. He is very usefull, because we have to work very hard to get the breakaway back. Other riders of our teams are tired very quickly, but Chtioui does a massive amount of work. We do not get any help from other teams though, and Chtioui cannot work alone against 11 riders. This is why Ben Nasser attacks on the one but last hill of the race. He has to close the gap quickly, because the breakaway riders are still far off. Finally, Ben Nasser succeeds 3 km's before the finishing line, and he directly overtakes them. Ben Nasser is going to win this beautiful race in a solo effort! He takes halve a minute on the last breakawayrider and finishes a whole minute earlier than the pack that worked very hard after the attack of Ben Nasser. But our man did what he had to do and our sponsors are content! Second victory of the season in our pocket.
