News in September

I am going to continue the tradition that says who makes the thread shall not post any news, but I have one question to ask instead:

What did happen to Salvatore Puccio? I didn't see much of him this season. Does anyone know if it is just "bad" racing schedule, or he had some (health, doping or whatsoever) problems with riding?

Just the wrong team I guess. Wink

He was 8th in the Road Race though.
12th in Milan San Remo.

But while he probably could ride better, he has lots of helper tasks with Sky.

Edit: When you look at his CQ graph though, you will see, that it`s more or less his best season so far. Wink

He rode a lot of WT races, but never heard something about illness. He was pretty much relegated to minor tasks than he deserves. But still, he was the only one with Swift at Sanremo.

Edit: Pratically zabel'd.

WT team wouldn't sound realistic either, as most of WT guys already signed new or re-signed old contracts, so I doubt he'd even have guys strong enough to compete there. PCT is certainly a great option, especially with young guys and talents. This reminds me of Orica and their start. Perhaps, just a bit weaker team and lighter version of it. Welcome to cycling, Alonso!

I think Pardilla should join team Alonso then: Spanish and his experience might be very useful, as well as he may be helpful to get some nice invitations for the team.

Am I right that Il Lombardia just became another Ardennes with much less climbing than before?

Could have saved Team Alonso a whole lot of bother if they had just done that in the first place like I thought they should. Pfft

Still, nice to see new teams popping up to replace some of the ones we have unfortunately had to lose.

Can't believe Alonso is actually getting a team off the ground Shock
Good to see them starting as Pro Conti as it should allow it to develop with a Spanish base and build into another strong team out of that country

One more hour of 'shut up legs'? I'm in Grin

Actually it's a very smart move. Before all the big favourites finally set up for their attempts, he will get the chance to get into recordbooks, at least for a few months.

What a legend, he will hopefully succeed and then he will say "Shut up Velodrome and do what I tell you!"

Yeah, agreed. There's no chance to develop under the radar for this team anyway with Alonso as patron, but at least they won't be a laughing stock in the World Tour this way. They can form a strong spanish core and go from there. One year Pro Continental should be enough to get it going in terms of management, training, staff etc. In the meantime, they get some nice Wildcards thanks to Alonso. It's also the more likeable approach, compared to just flat out buying your way into WT.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but now we know why Sammy Sanchez is riding so well lately... Pfft

It will be interesting to see who they can bring in for their first year. Time to check who else could be a free agent if they haven't secretly renewed already.
