...and my other worldly friends too. Who will be the future of Ameican cycling? The Euro's have many young talents in the fold but who will represent the good ol' U S of A? |

Isn't McCartney 34? I agree that Phinney looks the most promising, We'll have to see how his body fills out though. His frame at 6' 4" or so could make him like Big George, great for Classics but not so great for the big stage races. |

He has all that power and he's not that heavy. he'll be able to climb, trust me. How well? who knows. First rule of young prospect appreciation in every sport: more than half of those who look amazing at 16 won't ever be good enough to turn pro.
You can never really tell with youngsters. look at Andy Schleck. he showed so much promise last season, but of the riders who show that much talent at that age, one out of three goes on to live up to the hype and the other two end up anonymous. I can make a huge list of guys who got podiums in grand tours while very young, looked amazing and then disappeared off the map.

Wouldn't be topped by a certain Damiano Cunego would it? |

Cunego is very far from being a bust. he's already a sure thing. "already" is actually a bad word since he's 26

yeah I know he aint exactly a 'flop', but I think most people would have ecpected more since 2004. Out of curiousity, who would top your list of young riders who flatter to deceive? |

top the list? Isidro Nozal. was one stage away from winning the Vuelta as a neo-pro. then disappeared.
Or Evgeni Berzin. won the Giro at his first try ahead of Pantani and Induráin, one month after winning Liége. went on to wear yellow at the Tour. But his horrible superstar attitude did him in.
And as for Cunego, in 2004 he didn't exactly dominate the mountains. he was let go because no one thought of him as a threat, so nobody chased. he won the stage and took the jersey. then he held on for the last few stages. He'd make a brilliant classics rider if he let go the silly idea of being a stage racer.

He got one kidney removed because of his EPO abuses...
Let's legalise EPO and get some more Berzins, superstars for one year or two, then living deads for the remaining 50 years, given they don't die earlier... |
