Well, since we have a "All Things British"-topic I'm a little surprised that no-one has commented on Lewis Hamilton's amazing performance in the very exciting Formula One Season

Im not a fan of Lewis Hamilton, I prefer Davidson, Button and the BMWs.

Im looking forward to Monaco - starts in 15 minutes.

how can you not be a fan of Hamilton!!!!!!!!!
by the way he is like the Zabel, of Formula 1, 4 second places in a rowPfft
he must be about due a win, i know it's his debut season but he is getting very close to a win

great season so far as CrueTrue said, and great race today
1. Fernando Alonso - Mclaren
2. Lewis Hamilton - Mclaren
3. Felipe Massa - Ferrari

SportingNonsense
I dont like him because he is a rookie driver who has gone straight into the quickest team, thus easily getting good results.

Addy291
he hasn't gone straight to the quickest team, for one because, the quickest team is Ferrari,

but he has been with Mclaren since he was around 9, 10years old and has been going through the ranks, like a footballer getting promoted from the youth team, to the 'b' team, and then finally to the 1st team

SportingNonsense
Ferrari arent the quickest, if they were then they would be leading the championship.

The cars are the important factors of F1 not the drivers, any driver on the grid today could have won if they had been driving Alonso's car. Hamilton has come into the quickest team so of course he's going to get results. You cant compare F1 to football. I have far more respect for Fernando Alonso, he worked his way up with Renault but had his debut season with Minardi before moving to Renault and gradually working his way toeards his frist win and then a championship.

Also, Sutil and Davidson. Sutil was Hamilton's teammate last year and yes he did not do aswell but he wasnt as slower as F1 would make it seem. While Hamilton came in at the front of the grid, Sutil has come in at the bottom. So the fact that he came top in the morning practice yesterday is far more impressive than anything Hamilton has done.
Davidson - now he has been consistently quicker than most during the past seasons as a test driver for Honda. He, like Sutil, is now a driver at the bottom end of the grid, yet at times he has performed brilliantly for a team that was many seconds off the pace last year.

Compare these 2 to Hamilton. He had one of the quickest cars in GP2 and as Ron Dennis 'loves' Hamilton so much, Hamilton has come into F1 in this season's quickest team.

F1 would be far more interesting if each driver had to drive 1 race for every single team, then we would see who the best drivers are. Less technical cars would help too - so that position changes arent just at the start or in the pitstops.

CrueTrue
So you're saying that F1 has nothing to do with talent?

Well obviously you need some talent, you couldnt take somebody off the street and put them in an F1 car. But at the moment it is far too technical.

If F1 is all about talent then certain teams would not dominate and there would be overtaking maneouvres. Other than the start I only saw 1 overtaking move today - Sato taking advantage of Alonso lapping Trulli to pass Trulli.

Addy291
you didn't see any overtaking manouvers because it wasn't that kind of track (there were no safe places to try and overtake)

You do know that all cars in GP2 are the same?

it's all about the quality of the team itself. as a matter of comparison, his teammate Premat was nowhere near Hamilton's pace.

As for no overtaking, you can't expect overtaking when the cars are so aerodynamically sensitive...

try driving a formula ford ford car in another car's tow...you'll get a bucketload of oversteer, I can tell you that from experience...now translate that to the high downforce f1 cars.

and certainly not at monaco.

want to see overtaking in f1?

istanbul....hockenheim (next year only, unfortunately), and the amazing spa-francorchamps.

other than that, you're facing a procession...

SportingNonsense
Yes Monaco is a track with no overtaking, but overtaking gets rarer as years go by anyway no matter what track.

No, I did not know GP2 cars are the same, mainly cause I dont really care about it.

I dont like Lewis Hamilton, in my opinion he's had an easy ride to the top. Also, in my opinion F1 is more and more about the designers, mechanics and engine suppliers etc etc than it is about a driver's talent and overtaking is simply becoming non-existant. Lets just leave it at that, without everybody trying to prove every single point I make wrong.

nope. I don't disagree with everything (and I am getting tired of the lewis hype), but for someone who saw the f3 and gp2 races, as I did, it's pretty clear he is extremely good.

your rant about the current state of F1, for instance, I wholeheartedly agree. because of exactly what you pointed out, drivers like Ralf are paid incredible sums, while talents like Liuzzi are forgotten...

but then again...I guess that happens in every sport...

Hamilton is talent that is shure. Such a stability..like train. Other rookies had done something stupid already. But for me is finish riders always the favorites. Starting when Häkkinen started his F1 career on lotus. Just like they temperament..so cool.(in rally same thing, most of them are simple farmer boys). They just know how work with steering-wheel.

CrueTrue
On a completely other note, FIA is now investigating the race because of unsportsmanlike conduct. Hamilton said that the team had given him orders not to pressure Alonso too much, but according to the rules the team is not allowed to give orders to their riders. McLaren may now be stripped their double victory.

Interesting to see how this plays out, it was completely obvious that that was the case though.

CrueTrue
Well, I think it's a stupid rule. It's just team tactics. There's no point in two team mates challenging each other. Yes, it's exciting, but strategy must have a higher priority.

McLaren team plays? Thats first time..Alonso is bad image maker.

Ron Dennis (Mclaren team principal) said himself after the race that they changed lewis' strategy from a one stop to a two stop so he wouldn't beat fernando.

after that one , they can't really argue much...

Addy291
i also think it is a stupid rule, but if it is a rule then Mclaren should've tried to make it look less obvious then they did, because it was completley obvious what they did

Alonso slows down a hell of a lot and Hamilton catches him but doesn't go around him?, i'm sure they could've made it look less obvious

CrueTrue
Well, the most obvious is that they themselves mentioned it on the press conference.
