Le Tour de Langkawi 2008
9. Februar - 17. February

Tour de Langkawi has been arranged cince 1996 and have in many ways been a success. Many good and talented riders have putted their wheels on the startline and it has been many exiting stages. And of curse, it has been many people to watch the race, and the crouwd has cheerd their favorits forward. And this year i think it will be better. The biggest favorite is José Serpa. He has won stages in this race before and is a good climber who most likely fight for the overall victory when the race starts in Alor Setar the 9th February. In the point classification is the biggest favorites Danilo Hondo og Jeremy Hunt from Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni and Credit Agricole, they are those you can put up as your favorite on the v stages.
This years Tour de Langkawi goes over 1377.4 kilometers, and it distributed over 9 stages. There are 2 climb stages and 7 flat and rolling stages. The race starts in north and goes along side with the west coast and all the way to the south end of the island. When it reaches the south end the race turns against north and goes up along side whit the east coast. After 2 stages by the east coast the race turns to the center of Malaysia where the race ends on sunday the 17th February whit a 80 kilometer long criterium race in Kuala Lumpur.

Looks pretty damn good Welcome to the forum!
Just too bad they took out the climb to the Genting Highlands this year
So basically whoever wins the penultimate stage wins the overall. that's a bit stupid

If it is any Norwegians here you can read this here in norwegian.

Something you might not have known: Team Type 1 from the USA is basically the old Navigators team. Beamon Chdwick brooks and wilson all navigators.

Le Tour de Langkwai 2008
9. February - 17. February

Written by Knut Andreas Lone
Le Tour de Langkwai 2007
Last year Tour de Langkwai was decided on the first climb stage up to Cameron Highlands. In a break way the winner; Anthony Charteau was seated. The break away got a so big lead that the peleton could'nt catch them back.
On the second and last climb stage the favorites had to attack to catch the lead Anthony Charteau had managed to get. On their way up to Genting Highlands the other teams had to attack. Selle Italia was the team who started the attacking. Fabio Duarte attacked to putt Credit Agricole under pressure, because in the peleton Selle Italia allsow had José Serpa and Walter Pedraza, who is two very good and talented riders. After a while they and Jose Rujano (Unibet.com) attacked.
These guys worked good and hard together and got a big lead, and a few kilometers before the finish José Serpa decides to go solo and attacks him self a way from the other. He gets a good lead and wins the stage. Men he dont get enough minutes and seconds to take the overall lead.

Serpa takes the stage, but can't reach Charteau on the overall standing

For Alberto Loddo, Langkwai last year was a success. He won 5 stages and tokk the overall point standing a head of Maximiliano Richeze.
But overall the big surprise; Anthony Charteau won and tokk his first overall victory ever.

Anthony Charteau takes an stage victory and the overall victory

Le Tour de Langkwai 2008
9. February - 17. February

Written by Knut Andreas Lone
Favorites
Overall:
José Serpa
(Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Selle Italia)
José Serpa is the biggest favorite to win Langkwai his year. He was close last year when he came second. He has taken part in the race many times and know the rute good, but this year they has removed his favorite stage; the stage to Genting Highlands. He won this stage last year and know the climb very good. And to win a race you need doog team mates, and Serpa has good team mates in; Jackson Rodriquez and Carlos José Ochoa. José Serpa has definitely the favorite stamp on him when the race starts Saturday 9th February.
Walter Pedraza
(Tinkoff Credit Systems)
Walter Pedraza is an earlier team mate of José Serpa and i think he is going to give all to beat Serpa. Last year Pedraza came on an nice third place after Credit Agricole's overall vinner; Anthony Charteau and his earlier team mate; José Serpa. Pedraza is maybe used to be an help rider but this year he is on a new team and stands to start in Langkwai as captain for his team Pedraza. Pedraza's has not any big efforts. His biggest effort so far in his career was when he became Columbian road champion in 2005. Pedraza is a good climber who is going to give Serpa good competition, but has he the little extra?
Julio Alberto Perez Cuapio
(CSF Group - Navigare)
Julio Perez Cuapio is maybe the strongest climber ho starts in Langkwai. He showd that he is a very strong climber in Giro d'Italia in May last year. But he did'nt hold all the way in then. But if the question is if he really want's to do a good race in Langkwai. Is he in goog enough shape to win the race? And has he a good enough team to win? But maybe Perez Cuapio dont need any helpers in the mountains, his kind of type is to to go solo. But if he is going to win the race, he has to be in a good shape to beet, for example; Serpa. Because Serpa is going to give all to win the race. But Perez Cuapio is in my eyes a outsider.
David George
(South Africa National Team)
David George is to only rider ho is starting the race who has won the race overall before. He won the race overall in 2006 when he was cycling for Team Barloworld. In Langkwai this year he is starting for the team; South African National Team. George is one of the riders who is realy going to give it all to win. He took a fourth place last year and as i have said he won the race overall in 2006. He knows the race very good and i think he are going to fight for the overall victory. George is a good climber ho is going hang onto Serpa and the others favorites. He is allsow a good tempo rider who gives him the avantage of holde the pace up, but has he a good enough team around him? In my eyes George is allsow a outsider.
More to come....

9. Februar - 17. Februar

Point classification
Alberto Loddo
(Tinkoff Credit Systems)
Alberto Loddo is the strongest sprinter who is starting Langkwai. He has taken many victories er in the race before. Last year he won five stages and won the point jersey. He dos not have the best pull up i the sprint, whit Nicolai Trusov as his only helper in the sprint, he has no other choice then take one of the other sprinters wheel. He did that in Tour of Qatar whit good success. He taked Tom Boonen's wheel and he won a stage. I think you can put your money on that Loddo is going to take a stage victory in Langkwai and it would'nt surprise me if he take the sprint jersey as well.
Danilo Hondo
(Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni - Selle Italia)
Danilo Hondo is an clever old rider. He has now become 34 years and i think he beginns to get a bit "slowlier". He has been banned from the cycling for a period of 2 years because of doping. But he get realesed and did a comeback in 2006 after 1 year on the sideline. He took tre stage wins that season. On the autumn he changed to Tinkoff Credit System. But short time after that signing for Tinkoff he got banned again. For a 1 year period, and he got the suspension to 1. January 2008. And now he is ready for a new "comeback" whit his new team; Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni-Selle Italia. Is he going to get a stage victory in Langkwai? He has good chances because he has very good experience. But the question is can he find back to his old sprint skills?
There is coming more tomorrow....
I would like if you comments what i write

I'm interested in Hondo's performance. it's been a while since he rode for a consistent period.
Loddo should dominate, I reckon. He has all the natural ability to be an elite sprinter. Unfortunately not the mind.
