The Battle of 24 Cyclists | Stage 21 + Review
Marcovdw
Spoiler
Hi, it's me again. After a pretty succesful first story (Le Tour des 2 Cyclystes) and a less succesful second one (Blel Kadri), it's time for a third try. This is a sequel to LTd2C, but with more cyclists.

Hello everybody, and welcome to the 2012 Vuelta a España. And we are going to do something special. After a 2-rider Tour, it's time for a 24-rider Vuelta. Yep, you read that correctly. The 24 best stage racers of the world will battle against each other for glory and money. No team-mates, nobody to help you out when you're having a bad day. Who are those 24? You'll find out soon!

MAY THE BEST CYCLIST WIN!

Spoiler
Database: 'Stat conversion' of the 2013 DB
Difficulty: Medium
Control rider: Patrick Konrad

To make thing fair, I changed some thing in the DB. Everybody has the same age and everybody is Austrian Pfft

I have also changed the opening stage. Instead of a TTT, it has been replaced with the 2012 TdF prologue (Liege-Liege)

Cool idea, will make the race more interesting Wink

Sounds like lots of fun. Top riders without their minions battling it out. Wink
Nice seeing Patrick Konrad with them, even if he is just the control rider, but all of the top riders being austrian for the time being is grea too. Wink Cool

I'd also like to see a future arrangement in the Giro of just 2 teams but with several riders, might be fun, too Wink

Just wondering. Is this a Pre-Tour or Post-Tour DB you're using? Since Pre-Tour, it will be Froome v Contador again, which is outdated Grin

Post-Tour. It's the same DB as the EPIC one, without the custom riders

A short prologue instead of a TTT.

RACE

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0007_zpsc28d67a7.jpg
The first rider to start is Patrick Konrad from Team Voralberg. His task here is to report the race, and thus he will finish last in the prologue.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0008_zpsad47cf2e.jpg
The next rider is Ivan Basso, riding in his traditional Cannondale jersey. He sets a time of 8 minutes and 30 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0009_zpsc2163c21.jpg
Young Frenchman Thibaut Pinot from FDJ is next, and he shows that time trials are not his speciality.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0010_zpsfb1d08a2.jpg
Someone in the orange Euskaltel jersey is also participating. No surprise, it's Samuel Sanchez.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0011_zps5b147728.jpg
Michele Scarponi from Team Lampre beats Basso's time by 3 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0012_zpsef0bf9f3.jpg
Hey, a cyclist riding for Team Cult Energy from Denmark. Who is this? It's Jakob Fuglsang, riding in an other jersey than he's normally used to. He's 1 second slower as the Italian in pink.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0013_zps52228056.jpg
Nicholas Roche also rides for a different team, Rapha Condor-JTL.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0014_zps082eb939.jpg
Rui Costa rides for Portugese team Efapel, and sets the fastest time so far. 8 minutes and 23 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0015_zps8ba3f499.jpg
It was a shock for Cadel Evans when he heard that BMC didn't want him. He has switched to Drapac instead. And it might have been a good decision, because he's 1 second faster as Costa.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0016_zpsf9da20f7.jpg
Tejay van Garderen on the other hand was happy when BMC told him to ride for them. He sets a very good time, 8 minutes and 16 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0017_zpsee36e725.jpg
One of the 3 Colombians here is Carlos Betancur, riding for AG2R. His time-trial was quite disappointing.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0018_zps1289053e.jpg
And here's another Colombian. Rigoberto Uran will ride for his future team, Omega Pharma.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0001_zps92512559.jpg
The Dutchies are represented here by Bauke Mollema and Belkin.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0019_zps97a4f8a1.jpg
One of the big favourites for today's stage is Bradley Wiggins in a Node 4-Giordana jersey. And he does what is expected from him, the best time so far. 8 minutes and 13 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0020_zps0cadd8d2.jpg
Jurgen van den Broeck from Lotto-Belisol is next.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0021_zpsdc64df48.jpg
Canadian Ryder Hesjedal from Garmin is here as well. What can he do?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0022_zpse65368da.jpg
And here's grandpa. Chris Horner from RadioShack is old, but still very good.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0023_zps5d6b46d3.jpg
Saxo-Tinkoff made a very suprising choice of rider. Not Contador, but Roman Kreuziger will be their rider.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0024_zpseea540fe.jpg
And here's the Spaniard, riding for Caja Rural. Alberto Contador is 10 seconds slower as the current leader, which is still Bradley Wiggins.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0025_zps00e9cc09.jpg
Orica-GreenEDGE does not have a good climber, so they borrowed Richie Porte from Sky. He's provisional third, 3 seconds behind.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0026_zps4b778169.jpg
Alejandro Valverde for Team Movistar. What can he do in his home race?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0027_zps76175ae9.jpg
Team Katusha has come here with Joaquim Rodriguez. He's the slowest today (not counting Konrad).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0028_zps0571fb91.jpg
Nairo Quintana is the last Colombian, riding for the national team called Colombia. He's one of the biggest favourites for the red jersey.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0029_zpsc0cca10b.jpg
The Shark, Vincenzo Nibali from Astana, is also a serious contender.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%201/PCM0030_zps26d882c6.jpg
But the biggest favourite is Chris Froome from Sky. But, he is 2 seconds slower as Wiggins, who is the winner of the first stage.

Wiggins and Froome up front. At least this time they won't have to fight about team leadership. Quintana and Purito's time loss will be peantus by the end, Contador decent enough.
