Welcome to Writer's Block, the monthly story writing magazine.
PCM.Daily wouldn't be the same without the stories going around. We have some true masterpieces here. In order to further improve our story-writing culture, I launch this initiative, to make a monthly (or two-monthly) story writing magazine.
So what do we put into a story writing magazine? Easy, I will work with a formula (mostly to make it easier for myself, too, but also to make it recognizable), the same sections every month.
The Looking Glass
'The Looking Glass' is the main article of the magazine. Every month, I will do a profile on a story writer, through the form of conducting an interview (questions & answers sent by PM), added by screenshots I dig up from various stories by that story-writer.
I will also come up with a 'nickname' for each story writer. For example, the first story-writer profile (of Mresuperstar) has as nickname: 'The Professional'. The explanation is simple: His stories are always professional, always have a great deal of detail and quality. He never delivers sloppy work.
What's Been Happening?
'What's Been Happening' takes a closer look at... what has been happening. But in stories, in the story-writing alternate universe. I will take some important events and let you relive them here.
Forgotten Treasure
In this segment, I will dig a little deeper in the PCM.Daily forums and look for old, finished, buried stories. Some forgotten, some not forgotten. We will look at why this story was special in its own way, and also why it came to an end?
Story of the Month
There's no need for a big article here, since it the competition has a life of its own, but you can't have a story-writing magazine without mentioning the previous Story of the Month.
What's New on the Block?
Easy to guess what this is for. What new stories have been cooked up?
Screenshot of the Month
What screenshot has left a real impression on me in the past month?
Articles will be mainly written by me. For Forgotten Treasures and Story of the Month, I will occasionally turn to Mresuperstar, who has been kind enough to offer any kind of support. He will also keep this running and help me where possible.
This is a low-budget (no-budget, actually) initiative from a guy who works, studies and plays in a band. I follow all (some close, some from far) stories, but I admit I do miss reports, sometimes even pages. If your story gets no mention, or I forget to talk about a new story or whatever, please don't blame me. I'm not a machine, but a human being Also, I put a lot of time in this, so please take that under consideration before commenting
Lastly, I hope you all support the initiative and appreciate the effort I put in it. I like to use some humor in the articles, don't take anything personal, just enjoy it, or don't read it
Lay Out
Oh, and about the lay-out. I know it's horrible and has no style, but I just had my fun with it and I like to work with it. It's the articles that matter, not the form, I hope
Thanks,
Ian Butler

I'll offer up my help and expertise on the sites stories if you ever need.
And some comments on the first issues:
Great Idea and content
The design is terrible. Cluttered, small and really hard to follow at times. An extra page would break things up and clear it all up. Smaller headings would add the sense of space. Bigger text could help, but more spare space would be just as good.
The whole thing needs more of a natural flow to it. Too much jumping around a page following a feature.
Headings, whilst large, get lost on the clutter a bit and could do with some greater differentiation in backgrounds and style.
Great for a first time. Focus on spacing to start with.

What a brilliant idea, and I got a mention
Seriously, thanks to all the work you've put into this, it's clearly a wonderful idea, and I hope it continues for a long time. |

I see what you mean, TMM.
I appreciate your help, will probably call in help from time to time to your story knowledge
About the lay-out, I know. It's partly by choice, otherwise I never would've chosen green. I think it's cozy in its own special way.
It's a little chaotic, so I've uploaded the template in the original post, makes you see how the structure of the magazine is.
I might change template over time, but like I said before:
1. I don't have endless time, and I already put a lot of time in the crappy lay-out template
2. The content matters most, I think.
Oh, and 3. I had a lot of fun making it, which is also important.
Thanks for the enthusiastic comments, admir and Hobbit

This is actually a pretty nice intiative, Ian! Even though I have to agree with Manx about the design But some interesting stuff and ideas, which is great. Especially looking forward to the old treasures, but of course the other things sound interesting, too.
And thanks for the screen of the month

tpinot - I only included ( in 'what's new' ) stories started in December, sorry
But don't worry, keep going like you're going and you'll make one or more of the next editions
Glad most of you like it! I put a lot of time in it so it's great to see most of you welcome the idea!
And the lay-out also needs some getting used to!

Dippofix -
Sorry, no can do
The text is all written in Paint.Net, so I don't have it as a text file.
Maybe you could try to load it on a computer later? Or, if you want, I could make a .jpg version as well, but I don't know if you'll be able to read it so well, then...
Thanks Miguel much appreciated!

Yes, and I should already apologize for forgetting Jack O'Connor in the new stories. I must've missed it in the PCM:12 section. No hard feelings, I hope |

Karl was started in November, hence the nomination for November New Story... Terrible editing as well as layout
