2013 Baltic Chain Tour
A race that is flat.
So what will happen here, what can we expect, who will not win this race and who will win this race. Answering those questions with some credibility could provide a decent preview for this race. Unluckily credibility can't be bought, but I'll try my best to write something that makes me sound like I know something about this.
First things first, what will happen? I'm going to have to go with sprints.... and approximately five of them. So to sum up that part of the preview, some riders will go fast at the start of the stages, then some other riders who haven't gone fast yet will speed up causing the riders who went fast from the start to brought back. Then the riders who haven't ridden fast yet by themselves, will try to be as fast as possible inside the final three kilometres to the race. I think that worked out quite satisfactory.
What can we expect? That is just about covered already innit? If not, then try and read the paragraph above thoroughly through and then you might get it.
So what now? Oh yes, we have some riders here. Who will not win Baltic Chain Tour? Well a safe bet would definitely be Kasper Klostergaard. I'm not going to talk down the talents of the great Klostergaard, because he could definitely be one of those riders... you know the ones I mentioned earlier who would go fast from the start of the race. Still, I have solid grounds for daring this prediction. Yes, you heard it here first, Kasper Klostergaard is not going to win Baltic Chain Tour.
From one end of the meter to the other, let's talk about some of those riders.... you know the ones I mentioned earlier who would go fast at the very end of the race. Ah yes, the sprinters.
Well Napolitano, Maksimov, Cavendish, Kennaugh, Roelandts, Vantomme, Kankovsky, Avelino, Guarnieri, Castaneda, Hutarovich, Kreder, Hoffmann, Drujon, Krasnov, Sutton and Van Poppel are all riders that could do just that.
All previous kidding aside, it really could be any of the above listed riders, which should make this race unpredictable eventhough we might "just" see five mass sprints.

This race is almost a must win for my team in order to reach the top 10 of CT teams...
Maksimov should have a chance to do pretty well here, but given the fact my team rides stupid for all season now (except the Tro Bro Leon) I guess only Tanovitchii will end in the top 15 from my team, due to seconds gained in breakaways...

What a start list this is.
Looking so much forward to hopefully 5 excellent sprint stages and no breakaway interuption.
Let the best sprinter win this one and may this be Vantomme.
Looking at my squad I hope he will find another train and not try to start somehing with Velits and Iglinski.

Go Maksimov! Your future with CSC-Orbea is at stake here. Don't let me down.

Ehm... Epic
Not expecting anything now... Atleast I was smart enough to leave mr Filipe 'I can sprint myself' Cardoso at home... Now I hope Lima will actually help Maksimov to some decent results but.....

Preview of the year
And time for Kennaugh to show that he's worth the money. |

Enjoyed the preview
This was one of those races I threw in because anything can happen and all it takes is some bonus time on a stage from a break to move into a good GC position.

Quite an enjoyable preview, but I'd like to know why are you being so judgmental with Kasper? Give him a break
As to the startlist: ouch that's way too many high-quality sprinters! That's going to make the race too tough for Avelino. I don't like my odds.
Teams to form a train imo: Evian, Metinvest and Airbaltic. Kennaugh to win this thing

Would be quite funny if he was to do one of those +20 minutes breakaway wins now. Any way, look for stage 1 at around 11 and that's 11 for our british friends, since I have to watch this scrappy Champions League match

Damn. Wanted to go to bed after that scrappy Champions League match...(Dortmund - Arsenal is so boring)...but now I have to wait I guess.
I hope we won`t see any 20min or even a 1min breakaway. All breakaway riders can also lose time after they are caught.
Vantomme just needs to take a few bonus seconds as outside the top5 would be a disappointment for me, no matter the start list. |

Vantomme looked a bit boxed in in the last pictures. So I take this 3rd as it is just about bonus seconds here.
Not too bad. |
