The best Pro-Continental and Continental cobblers make a trip to the USA for the 2013 Tour of the Battenkill. This is the second edition of the race, with the inaugural edition last year being won by Staf Scheirlinckx of Hollister.
The route crosses over 200km of terrain, containing about 20km of cobbles, including a long section near the finish. There is also a fair bit of climbing involved, with 13km over the day, so riders will have to climb and cobble to do well here.
The main favourites are riders that are extremely strong on the cobbles, like Vanspeybrouk, Baugnies and Maes, who all lead strong teams.
Close behind them should be riders like Thomas, Steegmans, Veelers, Eisel, Gaudin and Jacobs, who could all throw up a surprise if in form.
Behind them, the standard drops off alot. Leading the weaker teams here are Eichler, Machado, Senechal, Jeandesbocz, Makino, Tanguy and Eefting. All could make it into the top ten on their day, but any major results will be a struggle.
Leading the one squad we haven't mentioned so far is Scheirlinckx, who returns with Hollister to defend his title. It will probably prove to be a very hard task though, due to the standard of opposition.

No wonder Scheirlinckx will have a hard time, it was a puncheur's race last year
And one I have not too fond memories of...Delage finished 4th in a group of 5 where he was the absolute favourite for the win

Nice preview. I'm rooting for the breakaway here.

Good write up. Don't know who to Support though. Maybe Boeing or Hollister. Also, Machado is a Cobbler in the MG? WTF?

It's not Tiago Machado if you think it is.
It's Marc Machado.

Home soil, major season goal. This is a big race for the team, as real points scoring races are becoming fewer and fewer. Thomas for the win, but i'm not convinced he can deliver. I mean he hasn't all season, regularly in the mix but missing the big result.
Hard to look beyond HTC and Bpost for the win, they've dominated these races all season long really.

Finally a race we're in again
Not hoping for much. Mostly wanted to race in a stage I created, if I remember right

I've been lucky in the cobbleraces this season, I really hope that will contiue. On the other hand, Bpost is in another league on this terrain

Bpost is the clear dominant team on the cobbles but AMEX hopes the home town fans can push our American sponsored boys to the podium.

Top 3 is good enough, but it would be nice for Baugnies to take a win, first for the team.

My best cobbled rider didn't even finish.
Congrat's Alak, my team only scratched their balls here. |

Great race and great report. I liked this was properly tackled and that the end provided such a contested and nerve-racking sprint. Congrats to HTC and thanks for thewonderful job Froomedog
Marc Machado finishing 15th is not bad for us, not bad at all.

Doubt it was enough for Bpost, the way VanSprey is any race that he and Albert don't win is a bad one.
HTC have wobbled between shock high places and periods of relegation type form. In reality they look to be somewhere in the middle. Didn't think a cobbled classic win would cone but here it is. Good challenge from AMEX who scored big here.

Finally a cobbled win, and of course Baugnies made it hard sprinting so early. Anyway, it's a surprise he won the sprint at all considering his stats there. Very pleased, our form hasn't been great lately and this win will hopefully propel us. And considering I was expecting us to relegate quite easily really, this season has been ecstaticly wonderful.
Great report Froomedog, pictures were truly amazing!

Congrats Alakagom. I was wondering if Baugnies was going to live up to his stats this season. Finally pulls in that win.
After the attacks from VSB I'm a bit disappointed to not get the win, he seemed to be the strongest out there. Still I'll live with 3rd and 8th, it will hopefully be enough to keep me in the fight.
