Movistar Team is one of the oldest teams in professional cycling. It was founded in 1980. Since then, it was part of the UCI under some different name
From 1981 to 1989 the first sponsor was Reynolds. The first big win was the 1982 Vuelta GC but was disqualified afterwards because of being tested positiv. 6 years later it was again time for a real big GC victory with Pedro Delgado winning Le Tour and in 1989 he secured also the first "clean" Vuelta GC victory for the spanish team.
In 1990 Spanish bank Banesto took over as the main sponsor of the team from Reynolds. Under the leadership of the great Miguel Indurain they could celebrate his five victories in Le Tour and the two editions of the Giro. Beside him, the team had fantastic climbers like Jean-Francois Bernard, Jose Maria Jimenez, Pedro Delgado and the vuelta winner of 1998 Abraham Olano.
In 2004 the Balearic Island's Tourism Board, Illes Balears, became the new principal sponsor. The team included the likes of Francisco Mancebo, Alejandro Valverde or Vladimir Karpets and won the Vuelta 2004 with Mancebo. After a rather unsuccesful year in 2005, Illes Balears withdrawes as main sponsor.
French banking group Caisse d'epargne became new principal sponsor. In 2006 spaniard Oscar Pereiro won surprisingly Le Tour after Floyd Landis was disqualified. The next GT victory was the 2009 vuelta win by Alejandro Valverde.
Since 2011 the team is riding under the name of spanish mobile telephone company Telefonica with the team riding under the name of the company's brand Movistar

 Alejandro Valverde

Despite the fact that Alejandro Valverde Belmonte will turn 33 this year he is still one of the best climbers puncheurs in the world. His experiences of a decade of professional cycling helps him in every situation of cycling. The Green Bullet is not only a good climber but he is a good sprinter, too. Therefore, he has the chance to compete with the best in the Ardennes classics.
This year he will peak at both the Vuelta, where he wants to repeat his 2009 win, and the Tour where he wants to reach the podium. Also, he races the Ardennes triple, Paris-Nice, la Vuelta al Pais Vasco and La Clasica San Sebastian
 Nairo Quintana

Since he won the 2009 Tour d'Avenir the 22year old Colombian he is told to be one of the biggest prospects in modern cycling. Due to his very light physique his biggest strength is climbing. He may not be as experienced as others but there are not many cyclists in the world who can beat him on the big mountains. He wants to prove that in the Giro where he will be the one and only team leader and in Le Tour where he will co-lead Valverde. Beside, he will be a luxury domestique in the Ardennes and he will lead Tirreno Adriatico.
 Rui Costa

It is difficult to define what kind of rider Rui Costa is. He could be seen as a strong hilly specialist, a good climber, a notable time trialist or as a powerful attacker. As he combines all of this he is the perfect man for one week stage races. He will not ride any Grand Tour this year but he is going to confirm his status as world-class cyclist in many smaller races like the Tour de Suisse, the Volta a Catalunya or the Volta ao Algarve. This way, he can race as a leader most of the time instead of being wasted as a luxury domestique. Of course, he will ride the Ardennes classics, too.
 Maxime Oget

Maxime is by far the best cobbler in our team. Therefore, he will lead the team in De Ronde Van Vlaanderen and in Paris-Roubaix as well as in Eneco Tour. He could very well placed next to the team leader on our homepage but due to the missing results till now he has to be called a Big Talent. We are sure that this will changed for the next season. As he lived in France for some years his favourite race is Le Tour and we are going to let him ride there. His race calender includes the AMGEN Tour of California and the USA Pro Cycling Challenge where he wants to show his country men how good he is.
 Albert Llanet

Albert Llanet is the only guy in Andorra who knows what a bike is. The 18-year old cyclist from Andorra la Vella is already 7 time national road race champion. He is a pure climber who has climbing skills which are better than every other guy in his age but if the road does not raise he struggles to stay in the peleton. This year is only to learn from the best. Therefore he will race a lot in the european mountains from Poland to Portugal. His highlights are the starts in China and in the United States.

Beñat Intxausti

Beñat is a brilliant climber and a notable timetriallist. Thus, he is capable of doing well at one-week stage races or in Grand Tours. As one of the best cyclists from Spain he is of course part of our all Spanish squad for the Vuelta a Espana where he has to help Alejandro Valverde. This is the role in which we will see him most of the team: as a super-domestique. Nevertheless, he will get some leadership roles in races like the Criterium du Dauphine.
 Andrey Amador

The Costa Rican idol is one of the most popular people in his home country. He is not only the first Costa Rican who rode a grand tour but he was also honoured with a special post stamp with his face. He fascinates his fans with a very attractive style of riding and attacking. This style will be seen again in the Tour de France and in many one day races including the cobbled classics and the canadean classics.
José Joaquín Rojas Gil

Cycling flows through his blood since his early childhood when his brother Mariano was a talented professional cyclist in team ONCE. The 2011 national road race champion is our best sprinter and is therefore our leader at most flat stages and in races like Rund um den Finanzplatz. His main goal is a stage win in Vuelta a Espana which seems possible due to the expexted week sprinter field. He will also be part of our cobble squad.
 Giovanni Visconti

Visconti is our joker. On nearly every terrain he can set a surprising attack which can decide a race. He is stong on the flat roads, good in the high mountains, a decent timetriallist but is best strength is his ability to go over the hills. This year he will an important domestique for Quintana's race for pink as well as he will support Valverde in the Ardennes and in Il Lombardia.
Eros Capecchi

Eros is a good climber and especially strong in small ascents. His best known victory is the Euskal Bizikleta which he won in 2008 in the most recent edition. Another big win was the 2011 stage win in the Giro d'Italia.
There he will be enjoying some freedom of movements in the Giro d'Italia, a race he will start for the sixth time despite being only 26.
Jonathan Castroviejo

Jonathan is one of the strongest time triallists in Spain which he showed in last year's Vuelta with his stage win on the first stage. But he is more than a pure timetriallist. He is also a valuable helper for the GC guys and will therefore ride his third consecutive Vuelta this year.
Juan José Cobo Acebo

His name will be always known by the 2011 Vuelta a España, the one taking him to international stardom. An unforgettable final week, taking on the gap lost on Wiggins and Froome, and the remembered face-to-face against the latter in the final slopes of Peña Cabarga, set him into the everlasting memory of the Spanish grandtour. This year, he will return there to help Valverde doing the same.
 Alex Dowsett
Alex won the National Time Trial Championship in the last two years. He has the ambition to improve his climbing abilities this year and will therefore make his Grand Tour debut in Italy this year.
Imanol Erviti
After 6 consecutive appearences in La Vuelta Erviti won't ride it this year because he will concentrate on the Tour de France this year.
He will not get much free space in the team but he does not expect this as he knows his role in the team since nine years.
Iván Gutiérrez

“Tactically, he's one step over the others." Those are words from his long-time team-mate Pablo Lastras. His ability to control all situations on course and his experience -already at his 14th pro season- make him one of the road captains of the team in all competitions. His labour at the team leaders' service and a special attitude for team timetrialling are qualities of a secure value for a group where he's spending his 12th year. This is needed in the Giro where we don't bring our best support for Nairo.
José Herrada

His mix of talents could make him a potential threat for one-week stageraces but Jose decided to be more of a luxury domestique for our strong leaders. He will race the Vuelta.
Jesús Herrada

Jesus is the perfect rider for every morning break away. He is a strong time triallist that can go good over hills and likes to attack. Aged just 22 he is a hope for the future of Spanish cycling.
 Vladimir Karpets

Born in St. Petersburg, he can be considered as another Navarran. That's because he has spent more than a decade living in Spain. He moved to Girona for two years before signing for iBanesto.com in 2003, when he went to Alzuza, a small village just ten kilometers from Pamplona, where his children were born and where he's completely accustomed to the way of live in the place. His helping will be needed in this year's edition of the Giro.
Pablo Lastras

He will become the oldest Spanish pro rider in 2013, 37 years old. Also the most respected one. His charism, influence and reflections make him the reference for the young ones and those not so young, looking forward to build themselves a path of success on two wheels. It will be his 16th season as pro cyclist, all of them at Unzué's service. Also a member of the old Banesto squad, he did not know any other structure since he became an amateur in 1995. This year's highlights are the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Burgos.
Ángel Madrazo

The 'Sparrow of Cazoña' –the nickname given to him by the Santander district where he was born- already left signs of his quality, fighting for the triumph in races likes Milano-Sanremo, Tirreno-Adriatico or the Vuelta a España, and making the best five in the road race Spanish champs, the GP Indurain and Ordizia (2011) and Primavera, Indurain, Madrid and the Tour Med, in 2012. He will be part of the Tour de France Mountain train.
Javi Moreno
Another decent stage racer. His main peaks this season will be the Ardennes and the Vuelta where he will help his fellow countrymen Alejandro.
Argiro Ospina
A talented colombian climber that wants to develop hisself this year. He will ride his first 3-week tour in Italy and wants to race the USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
Ruben Plaza
The Spanish routinier will target mostly one week stage races but he will also help out in the Ardennes triple and he will be part of our all-Spanish squad in La Vuelta.
José Joaquín Rojas
The Spanish Sprinter wants to add some more 4th places into his palamares. His highlight this year will be La Vuelta.

Sanz is one of the few pure domestiques this season. He wants to help in the cobbled classics as well as in Le Tour.

Eloy will be seen in a lot of CT races as we think that this is the level he should be racing on.
Fran Ventoso
Fran is one of the best one day racers in our squad so he will seen in a lot of classics. Beside that he wants to show his abilities in the Giro.

Team Movistar is still on the search for some new additions to the team. Scouts were seen in Spain, Colombia, France and Costa Rica but no offer was good enough to fit both sites.
Manager Michael Schröder commented:
Contract negotiation are always difficult. Riders from all over the world (Asia, Eastern Europe,...) want to ride with us but those from our target regions do not want to. Thats crazy. But we will not give "water level reports" on a single rider but we are confident enough to say that we will finaly get riders that help us... |

Somewhere in the world wide web, a user named Anon Y. Mous wrote on the website CyclingLeaks, that he found a secret list with the priorities of the spanish cycling team Movistar for the running transfer period.
He published the following list:

That unknown guy knows the world of cycling. It is not taken from to far that those riders interest us. We can say that some of the riders are on our target list for sure but we can also say that we did not speaked to every rider who is on that list.

Welcome to our press conference!
We came together to welcome the newest member of Team Movistar. First of all we have to say thank you. Thank you, Cesar Alierta. To all of you who do not know Cesar: He is the big boss at Telefonica. He gave us a big budget which was used by us to pay riders like Alejandro Valverde, Rui Costa, Benat Intxausti or Nairo Quintana. I can say it is a fantastic squad. Some weeks ago we had a meeting and decided to bring in some additional helpers for our leaders. And we started scouting. We scouted riders in Europe, in North America, in South America and all over the world. We even wanted to scout a rider in Curacao after we got a good-looking hint. Unfortunately, this was only the 2yr old son of Marc de Maar on his tricycle. But after all the work and the long wait we finally found a rider who impressed us totally. Thank you Cesar Alierte, that you have raised our budget for him.
He is only 23 years old but he will be immediately one of our team leader. He is a classic specialist who can win every one day classic in the world, he can compete with the likes of Fabian Cancellara and Tom Boonen on the cobbles and he can climb cauberg-like hills like Philipe Gilbert or Joaquin Rodriguez.
After living in Lille, moving to San Fransisco, he now rides for us, Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Maxime Oget:

Congratulation to you. You finally can ride in the Pro Tour. How does it feel?
It is just amazing. Every young rider wants to ride there as you participate in the biggest races all over the world. It is just a dream for so many talented riders to ride in the 3 grand tours and in the 5 Monuments of cycling. For me, this dream becomes reality now.
You are half French and half American. Didn’t you found a team there which would take you?
[laughs] There were many teams who wanted to sign me. And I have to admit that I was skeptical at the beginning. But then no other team fought for me just like Team Movistar did. They contacted me early, convinced me with a plan of how my season could go and gave me a leadership position. They even promised to apply for the two biggest American Stage races just for me. That is incredible.
You just said you want to ride the Amgen Tour of California and the US Pro Cycling Challenge. These tours overlap with Giro and Vuelta. Don’t you want to ride a Grand Tour? Or do you hope to get nominated for the Tour de France?
I am sure to ride the Tour de France. Michael Schröder has promised it to me. It also is part of our contract. Only way I am getting nominated is that I could get an injury or massively underperform. The second thing will not happen and the first thing is just unpredictable…
What is your role in the tour de france. Are you going to be a pure helper for your leaders or will you get some space for chasing the own success?
Well, this is difficult, we will send a strong squad for sure and hopefully we will be in the fight for the yellow jersey. Then I have to help a lot of work to do because cycling is a team sport. But when the right situation is coming I will be allowed to go into one or two breakaways on the hilly stages where no real danger for the GC guys is expected and which are too hard for the sprinters.
What is your big goal long term?
I want to win at least one Monument in my career. Michael Schröder is even the opinion that I could be the fourth guy to win all five monuments and I can say that this is not impossible. I am good enough on the hills, can go over the cobbles and have a good sprint finish which helps me especially in Milan – San Remo but also in every other situation where you finish in a group.
A question to Mr. Schröder: Isn’t it so that Oget does not fit into your squad. You don’t have any other French men or American in there?
Sorry, I don’t get it. A cyclist with a that high personal quality fits in every squad. And even nationwise it does fit. Just look at your map. Which county borders at the north of Spain? Right, it’s France. Which country is the biggest market for mobile telephonication products like our sponsor is selling? USA. That fits perfect. Or as we say in Germany: That fits like ass on bucket!

CyclingLeaks strikes again
Only 4 days after Anon Y. Mous puplished a secret transfer target list of the team Movistar he striked again. This time he "found the contract of french men Maxime Oget in a pub ". If you believe him...:
Contract between Team Movistar (in the following called „the team“ ) and Mr. Maxime Oget (in the following called “the rider”) .
§1. Duration: The contract starts on the 01.11.2012 and ends on 31.10.2013.
§2. Activity: The rider will be employed as cyclist. He is considered to train the full year. Also, he is employed to ride between 55 and 62 race days. The races will be decided by both contract partners. The rider gets the guarantee to ride the Tour de France.
§3. Compensation: The Employee shall be paid monthly gross compensation of € 50.000. For each win in one of the following races he will get an additional €15.000: Milan – San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Giro di Lombardia. For every stage win in a Grand Tour he will get another additional € 5.000.
§4. Illness: Should the employee be unable to work due to unforeseen incapacity for which he is not responsible, he is entitled to continued remuneration for up to six weeks in accordance with the legal regulations. The employer is to be informed of the incapacity immediately. Should the incapacity remain for more than three calendar days, the employee is to the present a doctor's note regarding the incapacity and its anticipated duration at the latest on the working day following the third calendar day.
§5. Additional Agreements: The team is not allowed to make another rider the team captain for the cobbled races. This agreement is not valid if the rider is not in good shape or when the race situation changes.
§6. Ancillary Agreements: No contractual entitlements for the employee result from the unilateral behaviour of the employer, as long as no oral, or written amendment to this contract has been made (official practices are excludes ). Should individual provisions of this Contract be or become invalid, the validity of the Contract as such shall not be affected.
The Employee undertakes to inform the Employer without delay of any changes in his personal situation such as marital status, number of children, address.

Movistar looked at all riders out on the market and can proudly present the signing of the next big mountain talent. He is not only the only guy in Andorra who knows what a bike is but he is also the best cyclist from there: Albert Llanet. The 18y old cyclist feels very comfortable when it goes up. And the longer the mountain the better he performs. As he is also decent in time trials he will most likely to end up as a good stage racer. There is a long way to go for him but we think he could make it...

HI FOLKS
Hi everybody! My name is Albert Llanet, and I have recently signed a contract with Team Movistar. This was a few days ago, but because I was busy doing all kind of press conferences and administrative things, I could not introduce myself. So, I'll tell something about myself now! My name is Albert Llanet and I'm 18 years old. I was born in Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra. At the age of 5, my dad bought my first bike. When I turned 11, I participated in the National Championships, and I won! Yes, there are not many cyclists in Andorra, but still, at only 11! Last year, after winning it for the 7th consecutive time, Team Movistar offered me a contract, and I decided to accept it! It was a dream coming true! So, here I am now, riding with the big guys. And in a few years time, I hope to beat them! So, rememberg my name!

Intro
