hey guys, i brought the game a few months ago but could never get it to work properly. computer got an upgrade a couple of weeks ago and now it's working ok, so far any way. i've started a career as team DFL just to get to know the game. i've signed a few free agents to dramatically improve a very weak squad and am halfway through the tour of Australia. it's been quite dissapointing so far as most of the squad i've sent over simply aren't good enough and keep getting dropped with about 20k to go. i've ended the last two races with only 2 still in the peleton.
is there any way to keep them in the peleton till the end? do i have to increase their work rate in order for them to keep up? i don't have to increase the rate of the other two, they just automatically stay with the bunch. are these riders simply not good enough?
secondly, how do i get a sponsor? as a small team i expected not to get a major sponsor but i can't get anyone!!! i've looked at the very small bussinesses and those who might want to sponsor a british team but no-one is interested.
thirdly, can anyone give me some advise as how to get the best out of my riders through training?
any help would be greatly appreciated. |

cheers, had a quick scan through you links and i think i'm getting the hang of it now. i've turned the tour of australia around and got my leader nico mottan to a final placing of 5th in the gc thanks to a well timed attack on the penultimate stage not bad for little dfl!!! my main problem is my inabilty to find a sponsor. any ideas? |

Just ask A LOT of companies at the same time and then when you go to the next day you'll most likely have some offers.

And you're a small team, so don't ask very important companies, you'd better ask the small ones

I just got the game a few days ago and had the same problems as yourself. I started with the same game and my 2 major goals I was refused entry to and most guys wewre getting dropped as you say.
I then read the training guide and the career guide mentioned above and realised where I had gone wrong. The first and biggest mistake I made was not buying in some decent riders before moving off January 1st I reckon I just didnt have the rider points to get accepted to GP Med or Californian.
So I eventually ditched that career and started again with the same team, hired in 5 riders without a contract who looked pretty good. Im away from home now and cant continue until Friday but i have read and understood how to use the training spreadsheet which is an indespensable tool. I am now set up for hopefully a good season. |

yeah, thats what i tried. i asked all the small companies with a small budget but i still couldn't find anyone. will it affect me much as the season goes on if i can't find anyone. and also will my performances increase my chances of getting a sponsor? |

I think it won't affect much at the smaller teams, because there you have mostly a huge budget in comparison to the wages of the riders you have. And with teams such as CSC you get some good sponsors for sure. |

Try targeting companies based in the same country as your team.

I ask all sponsors who are available, it takes 2 minutes and I think it's the best choice... |

Yes I was and am again. Regarding sponsors I asked all availale who werent competing i.e not 2 banks I was refused by all.
I suspect that it was a similar situation to my 2 goals I was refused entry to and I am hoping with a better line up this time I will get a secondary sponsor. |

the dfl team is very weak at the start of the game. apart from mottan with an avg of 69 the next highest is a 65 and then 62. i got accepted into the gp med and the cali road straight away, maybe because of the riders i signed. who did you sign?
with regards to the sponsor i've tried all british companies, all cmpanies with interests in britain and the companies of my lead rider (belgium) no one seems interested. think i might just give up till next season. |

I didnt sign anyone, didnt know i could of until the 2nd Jan which is too late. That is why I didnt get in the races. Thats why I have restarted.
I thought it may be linked to why no sponsors as well, but maybe not if you didt get any, we shall see at the weekend.
Can't remember all who I signed but I will post on this forum when i get home tomorrow. |

When i go to ask sponsors, ive found the best way to actually get an offer is to ask straight out a medium, small and v.small company for sponsorship (the idea being like real life, of a main sponsor, and smaller ones). By just asking 3 companies, each one NOT being the same style (ie bank, bank and - you guessed it - bank), the companies seem to respond often in a more positive mannor. Even then, i may only get the one offer say from the v.small company if im a small continental team. Once ive got one or two sponsors, i normally just mass ask the remaining ones. If i still havent got any sponsors, i search small companies who trade in my country and ask them too. By which point ive pretty much given up on money anyway!

Developments so far with LDF
1st Jan I hired Johnathon Bridge, Rodney Green, Carlo Queseda, Charles Dionne, Ivan Ravioli, they were all without a contract. Bridge wanted £8,000pm for a years contract. I offered him 6,000 and 2 year contract and he accepted.
I also hired in another International Coach and trainer, I'm not really sure what effect the trainers have yet.
I entered GP Med and was accepted this time (one of the goals) so am pleased about that. I also entered Qatar and was accepted, refused last time.
Strangely though I was refused entry for GP Bessages which I was accepted for last time.
I applied for sponsorship, nothing competing with main sponsors and not 2 of a kind, I now have sponsorship from Energie Co as well.
Just ridden the Australian Championships and Johnathon Bridge got 2nd so I am pleased with that.
I have implemented a training plan after reading the training guide and using the excellent spreadsheet.
So we will see how it goes now

Just a question Reap:
Why are you still using the official db?
Personally i cannot live with the fake names and Jonathon Bridge you mentioned, he is a made up cyclist by Cyanide. So I was just wondering why you are still using it, and doesn't it annoy you not having real names?
oh and the different levels of trainer: the higher the level (mystical is highest, international 2nd etc.) the higher the training bonus his trainees reveive.

Those fake names really annoy me If there weren't any db makers around, the game would be pretty boring...

Why are you still using the official db?
Because I started with it and want to compare the differences on gaining sponsorship and race entry now I have better riders, has given me an insight into how it works.
Jonathon Bridge you mentioned, he is a made up cyclist by Cyanide
On Noooooo! and he is doing so well!!!
Seriously though, I will change db soon I guess.
On the training note, just how much difference does it make when you select each rider with different types of training (Sprinter, Climber etc) to his attributes. How come with some riders giving them an International trainer gives them a bonus and other riders dont get one? |
