I'm looking for tips when traveling alone to a European City, I'm looking to go to either Copenhagen or Paris.
Firstly I am trying to find out which is cheapest, both similar in flights from either Liverpool or Manchester Airport.
I'm thinking of possibly going Paris for the Tour de France, would it be dearer to go during that period.
I'm looking spend the weekend, Friday to Sunday.
I need advice so I thought, this forum has plenty of people living in both Denmark and France so why not post for some advice
Thanks !

Don't look now, but from either Liverpool or Manchester you're already in a european city

Having been to Paris, I would not recommend it.
No doubt the landmarks are amazing, the Arc du Triomphe, Champs-Élysées, and other sights are quite awesome. The Louvre is a must visit if you enjoy art/history - you could easily spend an entire day at The Louvre and not see everything, just a fantastic museum.
However the city itself is kind of crap. The transportation systems are substandard for a European capital and it is a rather expensive city as well. Paris can be quite dirty in places. Parisians are generally somewhat disdainful of tourists and can be a pain (however some are quite awesome and even corrected my terrible rench, so its a generalization, obviously).
Don't want to sound like I'm anti-French, so I will say that I *love* France outside of Paris, the people are friendly, the cities are generally quite nice and hospitable to tourists. I would love to go to France again, but there is almost no chance I will go to Paris ever again, once was enough.
You could probably have a nice weekend in Paris, just by seeing all the sights over the 3 day period, but any longer than that you might be disappointed.
If I could make a recommendation for further European travel it would be Vienna and Amsterdam. Vienna is an amazing city with great sights, museums and food, plus they are among the friendliest people I've ever met (seriously people would tell me 'you have to visit x or y, when I was walking down the street, maybe its the Canadian flag though...'
Amsterdam is seen as a party city (and it is) but its very, very beautiful, has great food and has the best transportation system I've ever experienced. Pretty much everyone speaks impeccable English and its common to see your average bartender to conduct 3 conversations in 3 different languages. The museums (Rijksmuseum is great) are world class and there is tons to see and do without even mentioning the Red Light district and other distractions (which, to each his own....)
Just my opinion, of course so take it with a grain of salt, especially since I'm the type of person that likes nothing more to see a museum during the day and then have a nice meal at night, you're experience in these cities may vary .

Been to Paris i dislike spending a whole day in musseums so i skipped louvre , Paris for me also was a hit and miss , high prices small hotel rooms and too noisy for my liking , liked nice and marseille tho and i stayed in all 3 cities around 4 days.
I would reccomend copenhagen in the summer , the weather probably is not hot in the summer

Well if you want to go for a weekend and catch Le Tour then obviously Paris is a good choice. But yes as others said it is hardly the greatest city in Europe, but it does has it positives.
Can't say much about Copenhagen personally but i hear it's quite good. But i can't see it offering that much more than Paris to be honest. People i know who've been like it but never seem that enthused by it. And there is less to do than in Paris.
For weekends there are cheaper and better places in France and Europe in general. Would be interested to know why Copenhagen of other European cities as well.

I think I have to agree too.
Really, France's not just about Paris, and/or big cities.
What are you doing in Cali, btw ?

I just spent a weekend in Paris and that was great, but I can imagine it gets different after you've seen the big things. However, walking across the Seine is just beautiful.
And to catch the Tour, it'll be a great atmosphere! |

If you're going alone then stay in hostels as it'll save you a load of money - next weekend I've got 2 nights in London for 20 quid. Just sleep with your wallet between your legs. |

30 days London? That sounds really long to me.
I'll be 7 days in London this summer, maybe a bit too short, but enough for me. I'm not a fan of staying multiple weeks in an abroad city. I've been in Barcelona, it's a nice city, but again, 15 days is a bit long, I've seen most things in the few days that I've been there.
Oh, you edited the 30 days sentence away
Well, 2 weeks seems better. Still, I'd do 1 week London/Barcelona and 1 other city in the other week.

I made mistake,15 days actually,in both. Well,i'm planning to go in nearby places for swimming (in Barcelona case), so that might be my option.

I think 15 days for Rome is good. I was there two months ago with school, and there are so many things to see. We were 7 days there, but our programm started at nine and finished around 5/6.

Nah, I think Amsterdam is a very good City for a citytrip. Plenty of things to see, and it's popular for a reason, I guess. If you like to party, it's great as well
Anyway, I haven't been in Amsterdam that much, so you might know better

You can use https://www.momondo.com to find cheap flight tickets. Among the cheaper airlines flying to Copenhagen is EasyJet (from Manchester). |

Or you can save money and have fun (if you have time) by roadtripping! You can roadtrip by car, train... It can be a lot of fun! I'm doing it this summer, a road trip with my mates to Southern France, then climb some mountains with the bike and then road trip back! |

If you're travelling alone as a straight single man, I recommend Oslo or Norway in general |
