The Profile/
We're heading for Austria and which place would be better for a European mountain classic than the Alps? The 196km from Ranten to Kammersberg feature some tough climbs, making for one of the toughest one day classics in the PCT.
Of course it's a chance the very best climbers wanted to take and therefore we will see a startlist packed with big names. Some may have hoped for a weaker field, while others maybe won't care too much: "Only the strong survive", right?
The Startlist/
The Favorites/
Thomas Dekker made his team happy quite often recently, so of course he's one of the top-favorites here. With so much confidence in his own strength, he shouldn't be too scared of the following mountain goats:
Rein Taaramäe, José Alacorn and Dominico Pozzovivo will try to beat Dekker and they do stand good chances each. Much depends on the daily form and also the tactics should be a factor between those big guns.
David Abal and Gomez Marchante feature the list of podium contenders. ING had some very good results so far this year and given that the teams continue to shine, Marchante could be the dark horse for a win here.
Also Marquez will aim for at least the Top-5 in Austria, leading yet another well performing squad.
Kashechkin, Caruso and Lövkist are unlikely to compete with the very best here, but all of them can score some valuable points for their teams. Caruso may be top-motivated, given that he's still yet to prove his wage.
The other teams may hope for a less selective race and a chance for a surprising result:
Kolesnikov, Stetina, Rudaskov, Parra Bustamante, Landa, as well as Sheydyk, Barton and also Hatsuyama decided to enter this brutal race. Most of them will face tough times up those steep climbs, but of course there's always a chance for unexpected points.

With all those climbs the winner will truly will be deserved. With another packed start list Abal just needs to get me points, a top 5 should be realistic.

Pained me not to show up for this race as it is in Austria and my sponsors are Austrian...plus I could have sent Rohregger. But after some planning I needed Rohregger elsewhere, and I didn't think showing up in home race with a 'B' team would end well. And looking at the startlist... It wouldn't have...
Anyway, nice startlist, should be a good race - the profile is challenging enough!

I enjoy seeing a startlist like this when I'm not in the race *partytime*
Will be great to see the battle between Dekker, Taaramae, Alarcon and everyone else

Expecting quite a battle. These sorts of terrains is usually where Alarcon shows his might - if he cannot perform it underlines his slip from the top of the CTour climbing tree.

Hopefully Kashechkin can provide some points here with his first big result. Anyway my hopes aren't too high so we'll see what happens.

No Hoffman here? Well I'm not sure who will win then.
Seriously though hopefully Alarcon can live up to his reputation.

Hoffman is saving himself for real tough races, this one is for climbing babies.
No pressure here for Metinvest, we will hopefully try some long range attack and in the end grab some top20 place, but enjoying the Alps and training in race conditions is the main purpose of our attendance. One of two races where old timer Sheydyk can enjoy the leadership.
Good luck to all, Alarcon is my call...

Nice to see Taaramae back on the podium.
Also nice to see CT get another victory. Nobody I'd rather lose to.

While I'm happy that Caruso grabbed a top 10 for once, it's still a big disappointment to see him dropped by Stetina. Really should've taken 8th place for this race to be good.
I'm also a little surprised that Taaramae isn't doing better. Never even got close to Dekker, although I guess 2nd place is far from bad after all.

24 Points for 8th... Yep that falls right into my average per race days so far
The day started out good with Blanco in the breakaway but finished mediocre by getting dropped out of the front group before the finish.
Hmm, well thanks for the report at least.

In that quality field I am really happy with Kashechkin's result. A good 6th place will hopefully kickstart his season

Dekker continues to deliver, as he has to with so few race days (and no mountain HC races for my part). Nothing to complain about here - truly satisfied with Dekker |

That is probably going to be our top result of the whole damn season!
And Colorado 16th! Terrific race in the end, considering as there were zero expectations...
Brilliant dominant win by Dekker. Best rider on the day by far.
