Cycling in Novo mesto really started at the end of 19th century when Dr. Karl Grossmann summoned all fellow cyclists on 1st June 1897 in Jelenc tavern. Founding general assembly of the Club as we know today was held on 18th May 1972, where also the name Cycling club Novo mesto was given. The first coach was Jože Majes.
The club was developing in competitions and organization of events. One of the milestones was the organization of Balkan championships in 1985 where our cyclist Sandi Papež became the winner. He was also the most successful Slovenian cyclist in that period, he won several national titles of Yugoslavia and won the race Tour de Yugoslavia. In 1990 Bogdan Fink as a junior achieved third place and first medal for Yugoslavia in the World championships.
In 1993 the club organized the first Tour de Slovenie, where Sre�ko Glivar and Gorazd Štangelj managed the second and third place. In addition to the organization of Tour de Slovenie every year, the Club also organized the Junior World Championships in 1996 for the purpose of which the Velodrome was built in Novo mesto.
In 1997 the professional team Krka ¬ Telekom was established in Novo mesto. The following year Branko Filip won Tour de Slovenia. On the podium he was accompanied by Gorazd Štangelj and Pavel Šumanov. The team achieved the same success in 2000 when the first three were Martin Derganc, Vladimir Miholjević and Boris Premuži�. In 2003 Jure Zrimšek won a bronze medal at the European championship in time trial and he also became the European champion in point race in Velodrome. Jani Brajkovi� shone fully in 2004 in Time Trial. He was second in the European championships in Estonia and won a title of the World champion in Italy.
Adria Mobil has become main sponsor of Novo mesto cycling club in 2005. In the same year Jani Brajkovi� won the title of World military champion in Poland. In 2006 season Tomaž Nose won the third Tour de Slovenie for Novo mesto cycling team. Adria Mobil also won the team classification. Nose doubled the victory in Tour de Slovenie in 2007. In 2010 Marko Kump achieved first victory for Novo mesto cycling team in races of first category outside Slovenia. He won a stage in Coppi e Bartali race in Italy. Same year he was the first Slovene to have won the Trofeo ZSŠDI race
