De Brabantsje Pijl Discussion

Preview taken from 'The Cobbler', thanks to Mhaley45 for the effort: "This will be the inaugural running of this race in the ManGame.

All 10 of the cobble sections come in the final third of the race and while it is identified as Flat terrain, the rolling nature may be ideal for the season’s first breakaway success or for a solo victory attempt.

As a prediction this race offers a very difficult challenge as the course layout looks to be equally attractive to rollers as well as cobblers. It will take a very strong team to control this race from
start to finish. The Cobbler sees this as a race of extremes. We will see a very comfortable afternoon jaunt to a sprint finish or we will see a cat and mouse game of repeated attacks then catches by the peloton."

The startlist/

The favorites/

The Cobbler: "If this settles back into a group sprint then E3's winner i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png AMEXpc’s Bernhard Eisel has to be considered a favorite with his 77/74 sprinting.

In an aggressive attacking race, like we saw in Bahir Dar, then i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Bpost’s Pieter Vanspeybrouck would be the expected favorite.

The reality is this race is unpredictable and just as easily could be won by a Sprinter as opposed to a cobbler or by a breakaway as the peloton muddles along trying to figure out how to control this race.

As the final cobble race in Belgium before we move on to the
Continent, this will also be the last chance for these rabid
Belgium fans to urge a local cobbler to victory:"

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png HTC's Jérôme Baugnies failed to win so far, but he has always been in the mix and thanks to his hill-skills, he's of course to be mentioned as a top-favorite (as the final km goes uphill).

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/abc_zps288913e0.png Nikolas Maes, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Niels Albert, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Gert Steegmans and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/btc_zpse1fa0b09.png Pieter Jacobs will be some more Belgian favorites.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Geraint Thomas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vwm_zps2ffcd386.png Damien Gaudin and also i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Tom Veelers stand good chances as well, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Ekspa's leader's Christopher Stevenson or Aleksei Saramotins need some luck to finish high in this PCT/CT's elite peloton.

Hoping that Gaudin/Zepuntke/Sieberg can fix a good result Smile

TheManxMissile
The team are improving race by race, so i this has all the potential to be a good result.

But i expect the winner to come from HTC or BPost

Top 3 with Baugnies is needed if not more hopefully. So hopefully with strong team behind him we should do well.

Another win goal so I expect Vanspeybrouck to just miss out, but a podium would be fine. If I can get one or two more in the top 10 as well then even better. With the uphill finish and relatively few cobbles this should be interesting and I wouldn't be surprised if Baugnies can take it. On the other hand there is probably going to be a small group and with his rather poor sprint I'm quietly confident about Vanspeybrouck's odds.

Late cobbled stuff and an uphill sprint make me fancy Vanspeybrouck the most also.

That said we have seen some strange results in these cobbled races in the CTour, it depends heavily on make up of breaks.

Could use some points here, maybe Veelers has a good day Smile

Here's hoping this is not a very selective race and Eisel and Breschel can take advantage of thier sprinting skills.

Really hard race to judge. I think we will see a lot of non-cobblers in the breakaway, so AMEX is hoping we can be one of them. Let our cobbler/sprinters ride easy to the final kilometer

Bart (Veyt) it would be a perfect day for you to join the day's breakaway.

As unpredictable as this race is, I think we have several options to do well, so no matter what happens we are hoping for some points here.

I'll bet on a surprise winner. With such a small startlist, it will be an interesting race.

Expecting a top 10 atleast, if there is a group sprint anything is possible.

Maes once again missing the right moment. I think the lack of better helpers might be his problem in comparison to the first 3.

Amex really on fire now. Eisel is a great rider. Seems to be extra motivated after a year off.

Quite happy that I decided against this race. Boom could have made a top10 but more likely it would have been a top15-20 which wouldn`t have helped me that much.

Congrat's Mhaley for the win. Eisel just dominated the sprint.

Impressive race from Eisel, once again. I almost thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw him ditching Vanspeybrouck up the final ramp. It's quite clear which three riders are the strongest in the non-PT cobbled classics. Maes might actually have the strength to compete with them, but seems to miss the decisive attacks over and over again.

Congrats, mhaley. Truly deserved after some bad luck in earlier races.

Great ride by MAes again! Just a little problem, clearly missed again the right move. But i'm happy with his perfomance, well doneWink

This league is really becoming a rollercoaster.

AMEX were looking real wooden sppon type contenders until E3, suddenly Eisel is looking like the top cobbler in the PCT ranks. His teammates did pretty well as well, 5 in points scoring positions.

Very average from promotion contenders Bouygues and VW though.

A bit frustrating, Eisel and Veelers are very similar riders on paper. Guess it's the experience. But I can only wonder what would happen if Veelers joined the right moves for a change. Best of the rest isn't too bad though.

Baugnies did good again. Happy with that. Points keep flowing. Our road to survival is going good so far.

Marquez should bring some points this month too Smile
