Hello! My name is Romain Sicard and I am a professional cyclist for the UCI ProTour Team Euskaltel Euskadi, welcome to my blog as you follow me throughout the 2012 Cycling season. I am the 2009 U23 Champion of the World in the Road Discipline while riding for the Orbea Continental Team. I hope to turn that result into success at the Elite level. I hail from the Aquitane region of France, and I am one of 2 Frenchmen on the Basque based team.
I hope to have great success in this cycling season. My main goals of this season is to achieve my first win in the colours of Euskaltel, win a Grand Tour Stage and achieve a podium place in the National Championships of France.
This season I am going to be racing plenty, I have scheduled 101 days of racing this season, my schedule is as follows:
Tour de San Luis-7 Days
Clasica Almeria
Paris-Nice-8 Days
Criterium International-3 Days
GP Miguel Indurain
Paris-Roubaix
Vuelta Castilla y Leon-5 Days
La Fleche Wallone
Liege-Bastogne-Liege
Tour de Romandie-6 Days
Giro d'Italia-21 Days
Criterium du Dauphine-8 Days
French ITT and Road Championships
Break During July
Vuelta a Burgos-5 Days
Clasica San Sebastian
Vuelta a Espana-21 Days
GP de la Somme
Gp d'Isbergue-Pas de Calais
Possible World ITT and RR Entry
Il Lombardia
Tour of Beijing-5 Days
Japan Cup
This season I will have many different roles, I hope to be the leader at one of the French WT Races, hopefully P-N, however I will be a main lieutenant in the Giro and La Vuelta for my good friend Igor Anton. He will be trying for the win in both races. In the Ardennes Classics I will be supporting our Team Captain Sammy Sanchez. I hope to lead our squad in a few of the smaller stage races and classics, I will be relying on my best friend, and fellow countryman Pierre Cazaux to help me. Finally, I plan on getting some TV time for our sponsors Euskaltel and Euskadi in breakaways, this season I have been told I will have plenty of opportunities to ride out front and chase victories. I cannot wait for the season to start and hope you are just as excited as I am!
Thank you again for reading my friends, I will see you in Argentina.
Cheers,
Romain

Nice to see another story starting.
A piece of advice:
- You should upload your photos on Photobucket. Then you can copy a link of the pic(should be a link right-under if you click the picture with 'IMG code', copy that code)
Then it'll display perfectly on the site, every story writer does it
And you should maybe have reserved some posts(post 2 & 3), but it's too late for you now
Good luck!

Actually the 'Spanish guys' consider themselves Basque and not Spanish. |

well I couldn't say Basque as some of them aren't even from Basqueland, Sammy Sánchez if I remember correctly
edit: I was wrong anyway so it doesn't matter much

Welcome to my Tour de San Luis Stage 1 Blog! It is the first race of the my season and I am hoping to achieve a solid Top 15 in GC while supporting our team captain Amets Txurruka. Before starting the recap I would like to thank our fine bicycle supplier Orbea for the great 2012 rides!
Pre-Race Quotes: "I am very excited to start my season in Argentina. For the first stage we hope to get a rider in the break and test the terrain, before trying to set Ruben (Perez) up for a solid sprint finish. Personally, I would like to run a few bottles and control the pace at the front, and namely keep Amets out of trouble as we prepare for a difficult stage 2 tomorrow."
Top 5 GC Contenders:
1.) Vladimir Karpets-Movistar
2.) David Zabriskie-Garmin-Cervelo
3.) Kevin Seeldrayers-Astana
4.) Amets Txurruka-Euskaltel
5.) Jose Serpa-Androni
As my first stage race of the season gets under way, we were trying to get a man in the BOTD, and we succeeded! Miguel Minguez one of our key domestiques was able to make the move of the day along with 5 other riders; Ratto, Kochetkov, Fognini, Fortini, and Palomares with De Backer and Kirsipuu just a minute or so back.
Miguez obviously felt as if he had strong legs taking all 3 intermediate points (1 KoM, 2 Pts) securing him the first Polka Dot Jersey in this year's tour!
The peleton seemed content to let the break ride comfortably out front, the maximum lead was 9:50 ahead of the main field. But with 50KM to go Astana and Differdange took to the front and began to reel the break in. It was nice for our team to be able to be along for the ride and not have to worry about chasing, however that will probably change shortly when we get Amets in Yellow!! With 20KM to go and a slim 50 second lead over the hard-charging main field Minguez and Fortini attack breaking the spirits of the other riders. The move is a futile one as both brave souls are reeled in with just 7KM to go. Now it is a show for the sprinters!
Our sprint train seemed very solid, however Perez and his lead-out man Cabedo got boxed in by Astana's lead out man, all but ruining our hopes for a Top 10, a real shame for the boys, but we'll have another go at it soon. Up front Ariel Richeze (Nippo) takes a well earned victory over Kreder (Garmin) and Boivin (SpiderTech). Nippo really had the best train today and Richeze coasted to victory and the first lead of the race.
Stage rankings:
1. Ariel Richeze-Nippo - 3hr43min01sec
2. Raymond Kreder-Garmin st
3. Guillaume Boivin-SpiderTech st
4. Anuar Manan- Champion System st
5. Francesco Gavazzi-Astana st
...
43. Romain Sicard-Euskaltel st
GC:
1. Ariel Richeze-Nippo - 3hr43min01sec
2. Raymond Kreder-Garmin-+8"
3. Miguel Minguez-Euskaltel-+12"
4. Guillaume Boivin-SpiderTech +12"
5. Petr Kotchkeov-Itera-Katusha +14"
...
47. Romain Sicard-Euskaltel +20"
Pts: Richeze-Nippo 25 Pts
KOM: Minguez-Euskaltel 6 Pts
U25: R. Kreder-Garmin 3hr43min9sec
Post Race Comments: "What a relaxing first day on the bicycle for myself, although it was ashame that we could not get a Top 10 for Ruben, we worked very hard and had a very good train set up for him, but lady luck just wasn't on our side today. Personally, I had very fine legs, and felt as if I could've made noise in the breakaway today, however Miguel represented us well and claimed the mountains jersey, a great prize to take into stage 2. Tomorrow will be a tricky uphill finish, I am not sure if some of the sprinters will be able to hang on and contest the win, but I will be there trying to place Amets in the best situation possible, and also trying to hold onto a top placing, and possibly put a dig in for the Youth jersey. Although the result just wasn't there today, we will get them tomorrow."
Thank you again for reading, I look forward to reporting a Euskaltel win on stage 2 soon!
Cheers,
Romain

Nice report.
But when taking screenshots press ctrl + U first and then ctrl + T. It gets rid of all the information about the stage and stuff.
Good Luck

Nice stage. Although maybe the report could be layed out better. Try including some gaps between the lines of writing, as well as headings/titles and centred pictures maybe. Just some tips, but i think a good layout really helps. And good luck |

@jakstar22- thank you for the tip! I had no clue, also thanks for your support!
Pinktay3- thank you, as I said before this is my first story so I'm still trying to get the ins and outs, but it will get better, I promise!
sutty68 a very quiet start, its difficult without a true sprinter, but needless to say Euskaltel is built for the hills!
Stage 2 will be up shortly! And hopefully better than ever! Thanks for supporting and following! |

Welcome to Stage 2 of the Tour de San Luis! Today is the first real challenge of the tour with a tough climb up to El Trapiche to settle the score. Today, we hope to get our team leader, Amets Txurruka in a good position to battle for victory today.
As soon as the race went live a 6 man break went up the road, none of the riders were seen as long-term GC threats. The riders were: Boily (SpiderTech), Sarmiento (Liquigas), Montanari (WIT), Quintero (COL), Ascani (Farnasi), and Garderyn (Champion).
The Breakaway of Stage 2
As we rode along, I saw my name on the road a few times! What a good feeling to know that the fans support me, even in far off countries!
It's always nice to see the fans supporting me, even in Argentina!
There was a relaxed mood in the peloton throughout the first part of the race. I was able to mingle with a few riders as the breakaway got an advantage of 8'25".
Here I am offering my congratulations to yesterday's winner and yellow jersey holder, Ariel Richeze.
The peace was broken by an attack from a dangerous puncheur, Fabian Wegmann from Garmin-Barracuda, made a daring move to try to ride solo for the final 45KM.
Wegmann tries to go solo to the finish
Many teams saw the Wegmann attack as a dangerous move, so we decided to move to the front and neutralize the attack, we received a lot of help from Nippo, the team of the race leader, Richeze.
Nippo and Euskaltel control the main field.
With 7KM to go the break was reeled in and our loyal domestique Adrian Saez had enough and began to drop back. Saez did great work for us, delivering bottles and helping control the pace at the front all day.
With 3KM to go Wegmann had another go at it, this time Txurruka followed trying to break clear for victory.
Wegmann and Txurruka go for gold in the final kilometers
Sadly, Astana's Croat, Kiserlovski neutralized the assault and then sprung his leader, Kevin Seeldrayers off the front. From there Seeldrayers coasted to an easy victory over our own Ruben Perez. Txurruka finished a solid 4th, and I managed a respectable 7th place finish despite being spent. 3 guys in the Top 7, a very solid day for Euskaltel!
Seeldrayers celebrates his easy victory
With his win Seeldrayers claims the GC, and KoM lead, while Richeze retained the green jersey heading into a sprint stage tomorrow. The best news of the day is the new leader of the U25 classification, that's right, it's your very own Romain Sicard!! Due to our strong finish today, we also took hold of the Team Classification.
Stage Rankings:
1. Kevin Seeldrayers-Astana 4hr30min07sec
2. Ruben Perez-Euskaltel +22"
3. Jon Tiernan-Locke-Endura +41"
4. Amets Txurruka-Euskaltel +1'08"
5. David Arroyo-Movistar +1'16"
...
7. Romain Sicard-Euskaltel st
GC:
1. Kevin Seeldrayers-Astana 8hr12min47sec
2. Ruben Perez-Euskaltel +30"
3. Jon Tiernan-Locke-Endura +53"
4. Amets Txurruka-Euskaltel +1'28"
5. Kevin Hulsmans-Farnasi +1'36"
...
11. Romain Sicard-Euskaltel st
Pts: Richeze-25 Pts
KoM: Seeldrayers-16 Pts
U25: Sicard 8hr14min23sec
Post-Race Quotes: "Wow, what a day, I'm spent! The finishing climb was much harder than it was portrayed in the race bible. Even though Ruben and Amets couldn't win, we are very pleased with our team's efforts. We are in a good position to strike in the Stage 4 ITT and in the 2 following mountain stages. I am very pleased to take hold of the white jersey, what an honor! Although I will do my best to keep hold of it until the end, my main goal is still to help achieve a podium place for either Ruben or Amets. Tomorrow will provide a break before the real race begins on Stage 4."
Cheers,
Romain |
