There is probably a poll on the way asking who deserves to be the cyclist of the year.
So who should be cyclist of the year. Personally I think Scott Nydam deserves it just for finishing the Good Luck Games race (ahead of Evans I believe) but that is just cause he is my friend

We'd better pick someone who didn't win anything in the last 8 years.
Someone so blatantly horrid that there's no where he'll turn out doped 3 or 4 years from now. Any suggestions?

I would say Di Luca, but i know people would scream and yell at that. But he was suspended on circumstantial evidence from a couple of years ago. I believe he was clean, or at least hope, and since he tested as such i must give him the benefit of the doubt. He should have won the pro tour. He was up their in all the ardennes classics, and he won the giro. I now wait the expected response to my suggestion.

I think Di Luca was abused by the system. I agree with your conclusion on his legal treatment but would say he would be top 5 on my list.
I have no idea who panaflex is talking about unless it could be Mads

the point isn't what they convicted him on. it's the circumstancial evidence that they couldn't use against him based on a technicality (in italy not even the police can record conversations unless all parties involved agree to).
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I mean the video of him and Mazzoleni lounging outside Santuccione's apartment right after the recorded phone conversation where Santuccione told him he had to take the EPO that very day because Milano-San Remo was in six days because EPO was detectable for 5 days back then (2004)

If i'm not mistaken, and i very well might, i don't think EPO was ever said in his conversation. He said something like, "You have to hurry because you need to do it today." Presumable he is talking about EPO but he doesn't ever mention it.

I can't be bothered to dig up the news, sorry, since I can't remember when they came out so I'd have to rummage through a year's worth of news
but I distinctly remember not only that, but also (which I didn't mention previously because I don't remember the exact details) something about conclusive evidence on six doses of EPO prepared.

Cavendish? because of the wins? a few people got more wins. Petacchi missed half the season and still got 20

It's his first season as a professional managed to get 11 wins, 2 in the PT and 1 jersey, i think for a neo that's awesome
definatley one of the best, if not the best neo this year and one of the biggest breakthrough's as well

I'm not questioning that. I'm questioning the fact that he's there, with his number of wins being the justification, yet those with more wins aren't there

Edvald Boasson Hagen - super kid won how many races?
Denis Menchov - Worked for MR in le tour and then won La Vuelta.
Andy Schleck - breakthrough rider
Alessandro Petacchi - 20 wins is hard to overlook
And no, I won't nominate Cadel, and won't explain because all the Cadel fan boys will be all over me. |

There will be a kind of "Official PCM.daily Cycling Awards"-thing, but this is a fine way for me to find the right nominees. |

I'm not naming Bertolini, Hagen, etc. because I feel to be considered for top rider you must have proved yourself against the best. they would've hardly had any wins racing the top riders.
also, I won't name anyone who did well in one singular part of the season and disappeared off the map later (aka Moreaukourov)
that's my point of view, so:
Alessandro Ballan - good placings in all types of classics and winner of two of them including the Ronde
Paolo Bettini - won the worlds once again plus a few stages, namely at the Vuelta.
Fabian Cancellara - time trials all over the place, a brilliant Tour, the Worlds ITT and was decent in the classics despite being by his own
admission horribly off form (didn't start training until mid-february because of media commitments)
Alberto Contador - Paris-Nice, Tour de France, plus a host of stage wins.
Stijn Devolder - solid performances throughout several big races
Cadel Evans - podiums in two grand tours, top ten at the Giro di Lombardia. stage win at the Tour.
Vladimir Efimkin - see Devolder
Oscar Freire - he races so little and wins so much. his win % is surely right up there in the all-time average
Alessandro Petacchi - 19 wins, several points jerseys, most notably the Giro d'Italia, despite missing out on the Tour yet again. for one reason and another he's only ever done the Tour once...in which he crashed. weird.
Johan Van Summeren - in my mind the best worker in the peloton. he is always there for his leaders in every terrain, throughout the season. amazing. and he was in a break, which isn't usual for him, and even ended up winning the overall in Poland because of it.
Jens Voigt - wins throughout the season despite working for others most of the time. always there for his leaders as well.
