There is a changing of the guard in time trialling, Rogers and Zabriskie are no longer as strong as they once were, and Zabriskie isn't even here, Coppel, Cancellara and Phinney are at the peak of their powers, while Kittel and Tour of Qatar stage winner Fiedler seem to be hitting their stride. This route is only 45km long, and hasn't got much in the way of climbing,so it should give us the first real indication of what will happen in time trials this year:

The teams:

Aker-MOT lead us off alphabetically but are just here to make up the numbers on the road.

Festina-Canal + have three solid riders in Bernaudeau, Donald and Kovalev, but none of them are top class, and they will be happy with a top ten

Koren leads the Heineken team, and a top ten would be an excellent result for him.

Koenigsegg have the only rider to have won a Pro Tour Time Trial this year in Jacob Feidler, and although this route suits him less than Qatar, he will still fancy his chances.

Bonnet is Lotto - Cervelo's lead man today, and another rider looking for that elusive top ten, although Bonnet has the advantage of being on home soil.

Milka - AVG has home town hero Coppel, and anything other than a victory today would be a disappointment for them.

Our wildcards are Oz Cycling Project, but they are not just here to make up the numbers. Ford will be hoping to take an early lead, while Rogers will be targetting the top step of the podium.

Pearl Addidas have Kangert as their leader, but a top 15 is probably the limit of his ambitions.

Wiggins will lead the charge for Pendleton's ably supported by Faires, neither of them will trouble the top ten.

Pokerstars have a team of decent riders, who can all time trial a bit, but more than a single top twenty will be a surprise.
Pro Team Venchi have Bodnar as leader, and will target something around 15th.

Joost Posthuma is Project 1t4i's leader and he will be hoping for a top 5 spot.

Imanol Erviti is Santander's leader, and will probably pick up their first points for more than participation, and even that is not guaranteed.

Simply Red Bull have come here for the win, and with Cancellara how could they not. I suspect he will struggle to beat Coppel thouygh.
Three Scandinavian time triallists for Team B & O, which will probably result with three riders between 15th and 30th.

Bacardi have gone for the obvious leader in Schadlich, who should be a lock for the bottom half of the top ten, and the interesting back up in Intxausti. There is probably not enough climbing for him to manage tenth spot.
Team Puma - SAP are most peoples favourite for relegation, and this race is unlikely to help their cause, Dumoulin is the best they have.

UBS-BMC have sent three time trial specialists, but not very good time trial specialists, so they will be over the moon with a top 20.

Kittel is Vesuvio's man for today, and he has an excellent shot at a top five.

Ignatiev has finally made his way to the pro tour with Wiggle Professional Cycling Team, will he be able to challenge the best, or will he have to settle for an anonymous top ten?
Finally we have Wikipedia, and second favourite Taylor Phinney, the American has been in a constant battle with Coppel over the past couple of years, but it will be tough to get the better of him here.

Would be nice to achieve our second PT-win. Rogers told me he's top-motivated in his only PT-race this year. So looking forward to it.

Coppel beat Rogers and Zabriskie last year, so it will be difficult to see him being beaten this time.
That said there was only 12 seconds between Fab and Coppel last time that could possibly be overturned.
Minimum expectation is a podium, but as mb says a win is really what we are aiming for.

Bernaudeau could potentially break into top 10 here being a frenchman, but it seems unlikely that I will get anything besides 15th-25th places I think.

As my goal list is giving a clue: I will be disappointed with anything else than a win. It worked for me in the last season, hopefully it will be quite similar in this season as well.
Go Jerome!

As long as I stay clear off the bottom 4 before the Tirreno-PN-Catalunya week I'm content.

We could be able to sneak into the top 100 on a very good day. Let's hope for that day.

15pts is sure, +-40pts would be better, but I can´t hope in anything better.

Haha, brilliant point!
Completely forgot about the fact that all teams are down to three riders here
Being less than 30 seconds behind mb2612's best rider is the new goal then. |

No chance, Echarri is a 74, I should beat Puma as well.

The very meager start to the season looks set to continue in the same vein - when do we get to races I can do anything in?
Nice preview MB. |

This season is very much about diversifying away from just hills for Wiggle, and it could well be that I score some very useful points here. At least, here's hoping I do! |
