UCPCL Draft Thread - Round 13+14
TheManxMissile
Not a lot to do at the moment, so i've started prepping for the draft.

Draft Rules
Spoiler

1. PM must be titled UCPCL Draft Round # (# is the round number)
2. Must include first name initial or full first name
3. All riders in list must be valid, eligible riders
4. All riders must fit any round specific restrictions
5. Your first PM’d list is the only valid list, unless I tell you otherwise
6. If a rider is invalid, ineligible then I will go to the next choice on the list
7. After the results have been posted, there will be no changes to those results, unless I have made a clear error in rider allocation or draft order
8. Any lists sent before the round opens will be ignored and not counted

Ok, there will be 28 Rounds of the draft. So the WT will end up with 28 riders, and the CT with 24 riders. (plus any custom riders you sign, giving WT a limit of 30 riders, and the CT a limit of 28 riders)
Before each round the managers will PM me a list of their picks for that round, in priority order. This PM must be titled UCPCL Draft Round x (where x is the round number). If it is not titled this then i wont read it, and will bug you until its sent properly. This is just to make it easier for me to organize.
The WT gets a 4 round head start over the CT. But Rounds 3 and 4 have restrictions put in place to preserve some balance. The CT teams will join at the beginning of Round 5, ahead of the WT teams.
The first round is generated using a random sequence generator. After that it will follow a serpentine system.
When the CT teams join, they will draft in a randomly generated order. After which the serpentine will resume.
This is the fairest way to run a draft i know of, and am happy to post some math if anyone is interested.

Other Info
Spoiler
How is the random order generated?
The WT teams are put in a list in order of application. The first application is given number 1, the last selected wildcard gets 16.
I then use random.org's sequence generator. I click generate/try again 5 times for fairness. This then becomes the order of the draft.
For the CT it will again be done using order of application. And again random.org sequence generator 5 times.

What is a Serpentine?
A Serpentine is a system used to keep such things as drafts fair to all participants. Its mathematical.

How does a Serpentine work?
Lets say Round 1 goes team1, team2,3,4,5 etc. Round 2 will go team16, team15,14,13 etc. It switches every round.
So lets take the opening 4 rounds.
Fastweb gets first pick, and ING gets last pick in round 1. Fastweb = 1, ING = 16.
In round 2 Fastweb gets 16 and ING gets 1. Fastweb 1+16=17, ING 16+1=17
Round 3, Fastweb 1st, ING last pick. Fastweb 1+16+1=18, ING 16+1+16=33.
Round 4, Fastweb 16th, ING 1st. Fastweb 1+16+1+16=34, ING 16+1+16+1=34.
It works for all teams.

Why a draft?
People loved it for the P-MG. I really like the idea. Its different and surprisingly tactical.

Contracts
Spoiler
Contracts are affected by the draft.
Those picked in Rounds 1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28 will have 1 year contracts
Those picked in Rounds 2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,26 will have 2 year contracts
Those picked in Rounds 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24 will have 3 year contacts.
So its not just about picking the good riders first. Do you go safe and have them for a year, or do you risk it for long term benefit?

Nationality - Dont forget, there are bonuses for meeting those sponsor requirements.

Hope thats all clear. Feel free to ask questions.

TheManxMissile
Ok, this second post is to help with organization.
Here i will post the current Round number, and the draft order for this round.
I will also leave the last rounds draft results here in a spoiler as well.

So, i have done the randomly generated order for the WT!
Yes i know the wildcards haven't been picked, but i know there are 16 teams here, so i can do the numbers without knowing the teams.

This is the randomly generated order from random.org (with timestamp). Go check out the site, and you will see this information matches up. This is to show i'm not cheating anyone or giving myself an advantage.
If there is dispute, i will do it all again screenshoting each of the 5 sequences.

Alberto Contador was the most popular rider, topping 6 lists, and appearing on 3 others.
The oddest list was submitted by Pure Black.

You can now send me your lists for Round 2.
Dont forget the order is now reversed! So Pure Black are first, and Lierse are last.

ITV was most bumped down its 4th pick. 9 teams were bumped in total.
Maxime sent the oddest list. With 7 over age riders and one already drafted.

Just a query, will you be sending out the DB as Kentaurus did?

How are the other WT teams getting chosen?

TheManxMissile
@baggie
I'm not planning on it. It's kind of up to people to keep their lists updated. I will be keeping a list of all the riders that have been drafted though. But it will be in an excel i want to keep private for the period of the draft.

This is where someone could help though. If anyone would like to make an updated list of either available riders, or of those chosen so that others can view it, please PM me.

@Jakstar
The 6 other WT teams will be selected by myself and 2 others (either other WT managers or maybe not involved in the game at all). This will happen in a few days, as i'm hoping to get more teams... well we need more teams... frankly we kind of need 16 CT teams if possible...
Anyway, when they are chosen i will post it, and the draft will then shortly open after that.

I'm opting for WT status with the SEP team

It would be really nice if you could post a DB before the draft begins (or just tell us exactly which DB we will be using so we can download it ourselves).

What will be the criteria for WT-selection?

I will post the DB, which is the simple PCM.Daily Expansion Pack
I run patch 1.3.0.0 so beware if you use 1.4.0.0, it might be abit wired.

as for WT selection, the criteria (again) is timezone, accentuating circumstances for missing first10, originality, nationality and anything else the selectors think of. All this was made clear before applications opened.

Im pretty sure he wants the DB to see which riders have which stats and which riders are available (or in the DB)... Afterall, It is part of planning your squad...

EDIT: Already explained yourself...

Will there be a budget limit?

TheManxMissile
There is no budget limit, mostly as there is no budget as such
There will be sort of wage limit imposed at the end of season during renewals.

Won't that mean that the first person in the serpentine can get 14 of the very best riders?

yes the first team will get, if they choose them, the best rider available for that round.
but they will also get the worst person available in the next round.
So some teams will have stars and weak riders, and others will be more balanced.
If there is a fairer way to do a draft i dont know it Smile

If you gave each rider a price dependent on average it might work.

Yay I won! Pfft

Personaly, I'm unfamiliar with the concept of a draft (it isn't used in any sports here afaik), but simply put you give us a list of riders for eahc round and we take turns in choosing the one we want?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yeah, I'm not familair with drafts too... I think I understand it now, but not sure...
Well, I'm the 14th to pick in the 1st round, so I can see how it works...
I think it's per rider:You send in a list with riders with for example Sagan. TMM looks who has picked 1(biggest priority in this round) for Sagan and if there are more people who put Sagan on his list with priority 1, then it's the team who is somewhere above on the list who get's him. Although it's not smart to put the best riders in round 1, since they get a 1 year contract in Round one. You're above on this list, so if you picked Sagan, you get him... Then we go to the next cyclist... The 1. Priority from team 2. Unless it was Sagan, then we go to team 3 first...
Well at least, that's what I think... Not sure about it, TMM has to answer it I think.

Ok, here is an example of how it works.
Its very simple.
For each round you, the managers, PM me a list of riders you want. This list is organized so the first rider on the list is the one you want most, and the last rider is the one you want least.
So for Round 1 the list could look like this.
Spoiler
1.Mark Cavendish
2.Peter Sagan
3.Philipe Gilbert
4.Tom Boonen
5.Joaqim Rodriguez

So i would have 16+lists of riders depending on the round.
So the first team to pick will always get their first choice. After that i work through giving each team its highest available rider from its list.
If a rider has gone to another team i work down the list until i find a rider that hasnt been taken yet.
So each round the lists will get progressively filled with worse and worse riders.
Does that help

@francopell
there is no point to giving riders a value when there is no wage limit. There is no wage limit because it doesnt fit this style of draft or game set-up
