Lierse - Pizza Ullo
Lierse - Pizza Ullo (LPU) is a new Belgium based cycling team. The idea came last year, when football club K. Lierse S.K. noticed the low sale of tickets on the days cycling classics were hold. They realised there are two sports that matter in Belgium, Football and Cycling. Rather then competing, the board proposed and idea to unite the two. After a lot of thinking, the first steps were taken and preparations started. A new cycling team was born!
It was decided the main sponsor would be K. Lierse S.K., Lierse in short. Of course a second, more international sponsor would be needed. The ideal candidate was found only 2 months later. Pizza Ullo is a growing chain of traditional Italian restaurants. Opposing chains such a Pizza Hut and Domino's, they offer more healthy, more traditional Italian pizza.
Soon after, The first restaurant of Pizza Ullo in Belgium was opened, inside the stadium of Lierse. The marketing machine started, and soon it is time for the real work..

Season goals
Main goals:
- Giro d'Italia. We are going for a win here, nothing less. We believe we have the riders to do this.
- A monument. There's 2 Belgian monuments, 2 Italian and Paris Roubaix, and the latter seems hard to win this year. So if we win at one of the other 4, our sponsors will be very happy.
Secondary goals:
- Liege-Bastogne-Liege. With Gilbert on the team, this is a mandatory goal.
- Tour Down Under. Start the New Year with a Bang.
- One of the 4 major small stage races. Just 'cause we can.
- A stage win in each GT. To show we are competitive all season
- A jersey in a GT. We like jerseys.
- Win a CT race. Crush their dreams that they're good enough for promotion
You see these are 8 major goals total. I'll let you guess why we chose that number, but it will become clear when we accomplish our first one.

A fantastic day for Lierse-Pizza Ullo
We are extremely happy to announce the World Tour licence we were hoping to get, has arrived in the mail this morning!
This means our riders will have the priviledge to race every World tour race on the calandar this year. Of course we are very excited about this and our sponsors have already promised to raise our budget accordingly.
More big news form the transfer market! It has just been announced Lierse - Pizza Ullo won the 1st choice draft pick! This guarantees us a superstart for the next season. Of course this is no easy decision and no name will be given until the draft itself.
On the transfer front it's been very quiet for us, but we are in negotiations with riders. To avoid any misunderstandings, we will also make no public statements about this until the deals have been signed.
What we can tell you is that we are going to try to start this season with a lot of local talents in support of our team leaders. While results are important in the first season, we see this more as a project over multiple years and want to make certain commitments to our riders and fans.
Lastly, and you will probably find this important, our sponsors thought the events of today called for a celebration. Buying a large pizza at Pizza Ullo this week will give you a free ticket for the next home game of K. Lierse. S.K., and buying a ticket for the next home game will give you a free pizza at Ullo's on the day of the match!

Well, I did make it quite obvious, but some of the stats were disappointing. That person has 77 flat, 77 cob, 71 spr and 83 hill in the database I usualy play. He's insane to beat
So I might go for the coke guy or the steak guy

More good news today, we are extremely pleased to announce our first 2 signings for the new season.

I think that this team gets really good...
You have 2/3 leaders even after round 1... (Gonzalez, your round 1 pick and maybe you make Thompson a leader)

Hi readers of my blog!
I got home a few days ago when the manager of Lierse-Pizza Ullo showed up. He gave me a great contract! I am an absolute leader and will be around this team for two seasons and if all goes well even more! I feel I can really blossom here! I am coming to the end of my time but I still have some energy left yet. I already have my flight tickets from Buenos Aires to the teams base in Belgium. The tea is a football team and I have been following a few of their matches recently. Now I want to show what I can do in the teams colours on some of the biggest climbs of the world.
I feel I am a very similar rider to Bradley Wiggins, I hope I am maybe even a bit better! A grand tour victory can be achieved and I will hopefully participate in as many as I can as I am already thirty-two. I have a lot of talent and I can improve this season so that next season I will be a tour contender. I can probably compete for Le Tour now though but I have some work to do if I want to have a true shot at overall victory. I started in cyclo cross and I have been successful there for many years, my best achievement being the victory of the world championship in 2008 ahead of Sven Nys. Since then I have been plagues with some injuries and this has made my cyclo cross career slightly worse. I have won many races in my time and the transition from mud to the road has so far been smooth.
I was twenty three when I started my first professional year and I was a domestique on Sven Nys' team. He taught me some things and soon I rose through the ranks the following two years. By age twenty-six I was winning minor races and supporting Sven Nys in the big races. However, on race Sven fell ill and I took up the reins for myself. Shocking a large amount of people, I claimed victory. With my contract running out I left for a different team to see how I could fare when I was in direct competition with him.
I won the opening super prestige race of my twenty-seventh year but I was still much in the shadow of Sven. His talent was shocking and I feel he is the greatest cyclo cross rider of all time, his sheer longevity at the top is something to marvel at! He won the Belgian championships that year but at the World's a breakaway out-rode us both. Going into 2008 everyone was prepared for the most intense cyclo cross year of all time.
We essentially shared out the wins for a while, out-sprinting each other. Then we met at the pen-ultimate race of the season, right before the World Championships. He won but still trailed me going into the final race: The World Championship itself. I attacked and attacked and attacked. He eventually couldn't keep together and cracked and I rode to a spectacular solo win. However, I could never quite get the same motivation to win after that season, it took a lot out of me and I had some injuries to deal with as well.
I speak some Italian which will help me as I know absolutely nothing of any other European language except Spanish which is the national language of Argentina. I am looking forward to finding out who my team mates are, I need a team to be able to achieve many of my goals this season.
Thanks for reading everyone!

I am ready to take on the world's best.

Looking forward at the draft
As we are about to start the draft, Lierse - Pizza Ullo wants to share our accomplishments so far with you. It seems like it was only last week when we decided to put a cycling team together and go for glory on wheels. Now we have 2 excellent signings, a World Tour license and a 1st choice draft pick.
K. Lierse S.K., our main sponsor, proudly announced incomes have doubled because of the renewed interest. The football/cycling combo is very appealing for Belgian fans, while also gaining interest and new sponsons from outside Belgium.
Pizza Ullo, our secondary sponsor, is really exploding at the moment. As soon as we signed Argentinian superstar Lucas Gonzalez, a new restaurant was opened in Buenos Aires. In Belgium, new restaurants were opened at Brussels Airport, Antwerp and Ghent. New restaurants are also planned in Cairo and somewhere in New Zealand. While most restaurants are still in Italy, the company is breaking into the international market.
In other news, due to our recent successes, in both sports and commercial activities, a few teams have marked us as their rivals. The team management would like to stress we will not be aiming at defeating those teams.
We want to defeat all of them!

We have Gilbert!
We promised you a big name, and we got a big name! Philippe Gilbert joins the team. A man who can do everything, never associated with doping or other scandals, a team leader, well just the guy we wanted. Philippe can still win and earn us points, but he will also be mentoring other riders. We have 2 more good draft picks coming up for team leaders, the rest of the team will most likely be youngsters that will be winners in a few years time.
Looking forward to our second draft pick, we were last, so we had to send in a lot of names. If any of our top 5 riders gets picked, we'd be very happy, but chances for that to happen are slim of course.

De Gendt joins Lierse - Pizza Ullo
Unlike politicians, we tend to keep our promises. We announced local talents, and here's the first of them. Thomas De Gendt is another one of those pure class riders. He will probably not win a Grand Tour this year, but he is definitely capable of doing it one day. While he's growing towards the world top, we're already expecting he'll give us some nice results this year.
Another even younger talent is coming up for round 3. While the rules forbid us to name our draft picks, we can tell you this: "His name shows what he does best".

De Gendt was pretty high on my list, kinda like the guy. I think my team is coming along nicely, even though I only got a 5/10 so far
And I'm probably not allowed to comment on guesses
