Tulip - Guinness Pro Cycling Team

This team has three not-so-secret-anymore weapons: Bacon, Beer and Oil

www.farmfun.dk/files/manager/logo-links/tulip.jpg

Tulip Food Company is part of the Danish Crown corporation that since it's establishment in 1887 have been the world leader in making bacon what it is today.
Today Tulip Food Company is shipping tons of bacon, sausages, soup and other meat products all over the world.

Tulip will apart from the money provide the team with first class bacon thus making sure no one gets energy deficits during races and keeping morale high on the team.

Guinness is a well-known company among beer-lovers throughout the world. It all started back in 1759 when Arthur Guinness signed a 9000-year lease for a brewery and only 10 years later they started exporting.

In Ireland the beer is known to be valuable when you need your strength. As such it will be a valuable contribution to making sure the riders perform as good as possible.

www.statoil.com/no/NewsAndMedia/PressRoom/PublishingImages/Statoil_logo_horizontal_468.png

The team is licensed in Norway as it is partly funded by Norwegian Oil Money. The Norwegian Government (which hold 67 % of the shares in Statoil) has high hopes for the team but demands that we must help Norwegian Cycling reach an even higher level with both Norwegian talent and established stars

Press Announcement

The UCI is currently holding it's much anticipated press conference on which teams will be given WT-wildcards the coming season.

The management at Tulip - Guinness are extremely happy to announce that we got one of the six wildcards.

We knew that are team concept could be seen as controversial, but sometimes you have to take a chance to bring more fans to this amazing sport.

We feel very privileged to have been given this chance and will do our best to prove worthy of being on the WT.

For the coming time we will keep a close eye on the possibilities on the transfer market. We are currently in contact with a talented young climber, but other teams have shown interest as well so nothing is decided yet.

Now the team management will pour a Guinness from the tap and start discussing which rider should be our first priority to sign.

Young Talent puts his future behind Tulip - Guinness

Irish 20 year old has today came to an agreement with team director Atlantius that he would join Tulip-Guinness as a young rider. Saying that "this is a team I could see myself with for many years." As proof of that statement, he has signed a three year contract.
Team Director Atlantius, clearly very pleased had this comment to make: "a talented young climber like Peter would fit the team perfectly no matter how the applications turn out."
So far Tulip - Guinness have signed only the legendary Chris Froome, and are hoping the you Irishman will be able to learn from him. Speaking about this opportunity Neilly said; "The chance to ride beside in my opinion the best rider in the world at the moment, is just the kind of opportunity you can't pass up. If I could turn into half the rider he is I'll feel that I've achieved something with my career."

Tulip - Guinness have signed two hot names

We are very happy to be able to announce the signing of not just one but two riders. Both of them riders that will shape the team in future years.

Peter Neilly

Firstly we have signed a talented young Irishman. The management have been chasing a signature for a while and now we finally managed to land an agreement with 20 year old climber Peter Neilly.
Peter is a man for the future. We believe in him on the long run, thus we are very happy that he has signed a three-year deal with us. This first year will be a learning experience for him - and he will not be spared.
Peter will get to ride at least one Grand Tour this season. He will be a key domestique in the mountains, where he will work for the team and learn from the best. We might give him a few chances to ride his own chance if we will be riding a fitting race with a lot of mountains, next to no TT'ing and manageable competition. This is the face of Irish cycling of tomorrow!
Team manager Atlantius

Chris Froome

cdn1.media.cyclingnews.futurecdn.net/2012/07/19/2/pic297248233_600.jpg

The second new rider is a more wellknown name. We were given the opportunity for choosing a rider from the very top shelf and we really wanted a captain for the Grand Tours - and that is what we have got.
The core of the team will still be Danish, Irish and Norwegian riders but after all Chris Froome is from the country right between our three main nations. And most importantly he is of a class that will be a big help in ensuring future survival on the World Tour.
As can bee seen on the picture above he is already wellknown and liked by the Norwegian cycling fans.
I have come to this team with one goal above anything: I want to win a Grand Tour. I have now ridden two GT's supporting a worse climber than myself but now it is time to step out of Brad's shadow and on to the top of the podium!
Chris Froome

Other noticable transfers

Two teams is expected to challenge Tulip - Guinness in terms of signing the best Norwegian/Irish riders. Namely the Norwegian Pro Team Haier and the Canadian/Irish Barrys Maple Leaf. The latter signed Ryder Hesjedal - the strongest rider in their area of interest and Haier managed to convince the Norwegian super-talent Edvald Boasson Hagen to join them.

We knew focusing on a GT-captain from another nationality ment that we risked missing out on some of the topriders from especially Norway and Ireland. But that was a risk we were willing to take and we wouldn't exchange Chris Froome for Boasson Hagen anyway!

Interview with the Jersey designer

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/PedroTulipGuinness/PCM0002.png

Tulip - Guinness have chosen to have it's jerseys designed by a relatively unknown designer working under the alias Atlantius. Here are some of the thoughts that lead to the final jersey design.

We wanted a jersey that the main sponsors could see themselves in. At the same time it should be a jersey that was easy to spot in the peloton.

[img-l]https://i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/PedroTulipGuinness/Atl-TulGuin_minimaillot.png[/img-l]
For the shoulders we wanted to recreate the trademark of Tulip's products. The yellow base with a red double-ribbon ending in the Tulip seal.

This is easy recognizable for anyone familiar with the brand and it will be very present when watching the riders in front of the peloton. In graphic design it's always best if you can say things without words.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/PedroTulipGuinness/PCM0001.png

[img-l]https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2797/4442569366_0b3ac493e6_m.jpg[/img-l]Since we wanted a jersey that would light up in the peloton the Guinnness part was much harder since the trademark colour is black.
We thought a long time about how to do it and ended up on a pub drinking Guinness hoping for inspiration. And that we got. We made the base of the shorts black as the beer, the jersey white as the foam and then we made the black fade into the white - just as when you have just poured a pint of Guinness and are waiting for it to be ready to drink. At this point the beer is fresh and with the best yet to come - just like our team.
Then we decided to put the trademark harp on front of the shorts to make the brand even more noticed in front of the peloton.

Since the last announcement Tulip - Guinness have signed two additional riders - two riders that we are very happy to add to our roster!

The Irish Profile

facewest.co.uk/facewestblog/wp-content/roche1.jpg

We are extremely happy to announce the signing of former Irish Champion on road as well as TT Nicolas Roche.
Nicolas has several GT top-20's on his palmares, the best being a 7th in the 2010 Vuelta. He might not have won many of the biggest races, but we are confident that this 27 year old rider has his best years in front of him. On this team he will be given the chance to prove that.
With the signing of Nicolas Roche we will also bring in his father Stephen Roche in a supporting role on the team. Stephen was perhaps the greatest Irish cyclist ever seen. This signing was very important for Guinness and the staff. Roche has been given a 2-year contract, but we hope to keep him longer than that.

The Next Big Norwegian

sport.aftenposten.no/multimedia/archive/00168/kristoff_168461o.jpg

Our other signing is the next big thing in Norwegian cycling. He first made himself noticed in 2007 when he 19 years old beat Thor Hushovd in a sprint to become Norwegian Champion. Something he repeated last year!
Alexander started his career in Glud & Marstrand Horsens - a team based in the same town as Tulip's largest slaughterhouse. Thus this is a signing that is not only highly appreciated by our Norwegian benefactors but also by our main sponsor. And a rider that should be able to deliver some great results for the team. Kristoff has been signed for three years.

We are very happy with these two signings, but we are not done on the market yet. After all we only have four riders...
The next name we will add to our roster will be a young rider, that will help us build a fanbase outside of Europe. Both Tulip and Guinness have a big export-market that they want to expand.

- Allan Grønborg

Other noticable transfers

At the moment Team Haier and Barrys Maple Leaf are the only two teams targeting the same riders as us.
Barrys managed to sign Dan Martin. Obviously that's a rider that would have fitted very nicely into the team, but we knew it probably wasn't realistic to get both him and his cousin Nicolas Roche. This makes for some nice Irish duels over the season. Later on they signed some American we wouldn't be bothered with anyway...
Haier started out by signing the Belgian rider Van den Broeck - fine by us, why would we want a Belgian anyway? Later on they made a rather surprising signing. Given free choice between all Scandinavian riders except Boasson Hagen (who they already have) and Kristoff (who we signed) they chose to sign Lars Bak. Not saying that Lars is a bad rider - he certainly isn't, but I can think of a few Scandinavian riders I would have signed before Lars. But hey: That leaves those riders on the market for us to sign!

Correct, but since the game is starting in january 2012 I didn't put in his presentation. In real-life 2012 he furthermore won a stage and the points jersey in Post Danmark Rundt.

Another Great transfer coup with the signing of Nicolas Roche Smile

Atlantius
In deed. With a part-Irish team I really wanted him. Had a feeling both Roche and Martin would get drafted that round and Barry's had first pick. But I still got the one I wanted Grin

I actually think Kristoff is a very nice signing for three years as well. He's young and in the DB he is already at the same avg. as Hushovd...

Since the last announcement Tulip - Guinness have signed two additional riders - two riders that we are very happy to add to our roster!

A Danish Leader

www.feltet.dk/octo_cms/files/Feltet.dk/Billeder/2009/Hold/Saxo_Bank/Matti_Breschel_1etape.jpg

We are extremely happy to be able to announce the signing of one of the most popular Danish riders. Two tines WC-medalist and former National Champion Matti Breschel have proven to be able to do well in the long classics and with top-10's in all the biggest cobble classics he has proven worthy of being captain in these races.
This is a rider we expect to win stages and races for us - and being a former model he will work wonders for the publicity and the female fanbase as well.

The Exotic Talent

i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01487/Jack_Bobridge_1487430c.jpg

As announced last time we have been in negotiation with a number of talents from outside of Europe. In the end we mad a deal with the big Talent Jack Bobridge. Jack is one of the biggest TT-talents in the world and have several World Championships from the track. He is only just beginning to focus on the road, but he has already won his first National Championship proving he has the winning instinct when it counts.
He will be a valuable asset in Team Time Trials and we expect him to deliver some good results on his own as well. He might be young, but he is already world class.

Other noticable transfers

By now two additional teams with interest in the same nationalities as us have joined the draft. It is TCS-Rabobank and Magners Pro Team. In spite of this the only rider of National interest for us, who have been drafted is Michael Mørkøv, who will be riding for Haier in Norway. So in that way teh last two draft-rounds have went next to perfect for our team!
