The HC races can make or break a ProContinental team's season, and are key in the promotion battle. They are the most lucrative races, so offer plenty of ranking points - but they are also the most competitive.
There are 20 HC races in today - 10 stage races and 10 classics. Each ProContinental team will ride 12 of them - with selections to be made later in the off-season. Should a HC race be particularly undersubscribed, Continental teams may also get the opportunity to participate.
Here is the Calendar:
10th January | | Down Under Classic | 3rd - 9th February | | Tour of South Africa | 22nd - 26th February | | Giro del Trentino | 8th March | | Kenya Mountain Classic | 28th - 30th March | | Corsica International | 29th March | | E3 Prijs | 5th - 11th April | | Tour of Vancouver | 15th April | | Philadelphia International | 17th May - 21st May | | Tour of the Czech Republic | 27th May | | Berlin ProRace | 4th June | | Criterium Hainleite | 10th - 13th June | | Eneco Tour | 7th July | | Manx International | 14th - 20th July | | USA Pro Cycling Challenge | 2nd August | | Clasica San Sebastian | 5th - 15th August | | Volta a Portugal | 12th - 18th August | | Tour of Hellas | 5th October | | Giro dell'Emilia | 16th - 20th October | | Tour of Beijing | 23rd October | | Japan Cup |
Just 9 of these 20 were HC rated last year - and only 2 of the 10 stage races. Corsica International - which was last year won by, of course, Jose Alarcon - and Volta a Portugal. The Portugese race is a mainstay of the HC scene, and has seen Brajkovic, Pellizotti and LL Sanchez take victory during that time.
As always, Volta Portugal clashes with another stage race and this year it is Tour of Hellas - not seen on the Mananagement Game calendar since 2009. Aleksandr Pluchkin has fond memories of it! Also returning for the first time since 2009 is the Eneco Tour. This replaces the Circuit Franco-Belge, and as such will contain 4 flat stages - sprinter friendly!
After 3 seasons as a C1 race, Giro del Trentino move up this year, and will play host to the only HC Team Time Trial. Tour of the Czech Republic, Tour of South Africa and USA Pro Cycling Challenge (formerly Tour of Colorado) both become HC races aswell, but after just 1 season as a C1 race.
Finally with the stage races, two new races to the game: the Tour of Vancouver and Tour of Beijing. The latter will be part of a spectacular end to the season, as it will be closed followed by the season finale Japan Cup. Lots of points available right at the death!
There are three new HC one day races. Criterium Hainleite and Manx International were C1 last year, while the riders will head to Kenya for a race amongst the mountains, which replaces the Urkiola Igoera as a HC race following the Spanish race's financial demise.
Exact race routes to be revealed at a later date.

The end of the season will be interesting, especially for the Asian rankings Lots of changes and nice to see Tour of Vancouver added as a HC-race.

Interesting set of races. This will undoubtedly be a challenging decision.
I'm looking forward to defend my Volta a Portugal title, even though it might prove to be a fierce task.
EDIT: I'm also pretty curious about that little Kenyan race, it seems like a great addition looking at its name.

Wow, seems like ill have no real interest in the HC calendar apart from the Tour de Czech Republic. And even then I only have a marginal interest...
But an interesting calendar for sure...

Good to see a couple of races in the ever-expanding Asia... They are going to be fiercely contested for sure; even if it is only Meiji that goes

Needs more cobbles
Seriously though it looks fantastic and I already have a feeling that I know which ones I want to go to.

Great looking calendar, however we miss some eastern European races, Tour of Hellas is the only race which could be rated as eastern European teams interesting.
But on the other hand our team loves to see the races in Africa, they will be the stand-out points of the season for us probably.
Looking forward to the Kenyan race profile.

Like the calendar. In especially the two German classics.
Vancouver, Hellas and Kenia look like great additions.
Goals for 2013:
- Winning E3 again. This time with Boom wearing the Rainbow jersey.
- Have another big season moment at Corsica. Rob Ruijgh.

The CTour continues to evolve and move with world trends.
In a way sad to see Langkawi, San Luis and Burgos go but these courses have become tired and predictable. At least the Volta a Portugal stays, which I see as the elite stage race in the CTour. Trentino is an excellent profile as is Corsica if memory serves. Should give the mountain men a real nice one to aim for.
The four big hilly races (Philly, San Sebastian, Emelia and Japan) also remain joined by that very tough Manx International race. Those races for me are the heart and the soul of CTour along with the E3 Prijs cobbled nightmare.
Nice to see Eneco in there and of course huge Asian interest in the CTour this year sees season ending racing out there.

Doesn't seem to be much which fits in with my plans so far, but it looks an awesome calendar so far. Very interesting selection of races, with a much better spread of nationalities.
After being under contested last year, I feel Africa and Asia will be over crowded this time, in terms of competition
