Cross country skiing, Biathlon, alpine skiing, ski jumping, nordic combination and Vasaloppet
Daggen
I know there's very small interest of skiing in the UK, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands and all those other countries without any real mountains. Well for us with mountains and an interest in skiing here's the first forum which concetrates around skiing. You can discuss alpine, cross country and Biathlon.
For those who don't know what Biathlon is.
Spoiler
It's a competition where the skiiers ride around a track of different distances with a rifle on thier back, and then shoot at five different targets. If you miss a target you have to ride in a circle of abput 200m pr you'll get one minute added to your time

The alpine season has already started in Sölden where the american Ted Ligety won over Manfred Moelgg with 2 seconds and 75 phr in giant slalom. The Swedes dissapointed with an eleventh and one crashing out.

Yeah! Love Biathlon. Watched it a lot two years ago or so. Didn't watch it much last year but will do this year (if I remember Grin) When does the season start?

Also where is Ski Jumping? Grin
Vincenzo Nibali - Rui Costa - Nairo Quintana - Alberto Contador - Peter Sagan

Ski jumping i didn't think of but it's skiing in general.
The Biathlon season starts the 24th of November at 10 am

Ahh, almost a month then. Will probably forget it then Pfft

Im a big fun of the winter sports. I can barely wait to the real start of the season. Biathlon, cross country, ski jumping, nordic combined, alpine skking, all of them its very interesting.

Daggen
I see the Fourcade brothers as clear favourites for this years WC in biathlon. Maybe they might be challenged by Emil Hegle Svensen of norway. For the swedes. We should be happy if we win five races. I think best swede next year will be Fredrik Lindström.

Denmark? Not really. At all.

In fact, you could just have named this thread "Sports only Norwegians care about" Pfft

 but Indeed, really looking forward to the season to start Smile, but watching
ski jumping and downhill skiing is almost like watching boring football (in my case, all football matches, except the champions league final..)

The big highlight of the year is ofcourse Tour de Ski (idk how they got up with that name though Pfft) but no norwegians has ever won it Sad (either men or womans) so really hoping this will be the year!

Marit Björgen won't have any competition this year. Dario Colonga will probably win the tour on the men's side

I don't watch ski jumping and skates because it's boring. I do like very much cross country skiing, biathlon, nordic combined and alpine skiing. Fan of Alessandro Pittin (nordic combined), Emil Hegle Svendsen (biathlon) and Dario Cologna (cross country skiing).

Daggen
I don't like Emil. Mainly beacause i'm Swede Grin

I care about winter sports too and many people in Central Europe do.
We have Bauer in cross country (winner of first Tour de Ski season) and good ski jumpers, Zahrobska in slalom and decent nordic combined and biathlon riders. Smile
I love biathlon though and i was enormous fan of Ole Einar (did he quit or one more year?), now i support his "successor" Svendsen.

I'll be back

Ole Einar is still going strong. He wants to win the world cup total this year. I don't think so, but he might be better then the last year and get a couple of world cup wins.

As for earlier times i loved to watch Bente Skari, Stefania Belmondo and Adam Malysz when i was young.

Daggen
Ole Einar is one of the athletes I respect the most. A huge fan of him

Is the 'Tour de Ski' still around?

Daggen
Yep. It will probably be a big goal for many athletes

Winter sports are huge in Germany, at least when it comes to media coverage Wink

Foreign athletes I support(ed) are (obviously) Ole Einar, the ski jump oldies Malysz (sadly retired) and Kasai (still around??) and the funny Didier Cuche (sadly retired) with his perfected ski flip Grin

Furthermore, my grandparent's neighbors are close relatives to biathlete Michael Greis, so I'm obviously a bit biased there Pfft
