Hi guys, I'm Aidan, the manager of the newly founded team, MTN - World Bicycle Relief. We are primarily a South African team, but we are looking to sign other African riders, especially Rwandans. African runners are know for being the best in the world, so I see no reason why African cyclists should come out second best. This team will be looking to develop African talent and eventually reach the World Tour with a fully African team. It's ambitious, but very possible.

Here is the 2013 jersey for MTN - WBR! Done by yours truly. Somebody else could probably have done a better jersey, but it's my team, so I think I'll create my own jersey

MTN has set its sights on spreading its name throughout Africa. They are keen to sign African riders from all ages and African nationalities. MTN is looking for exposure throughout African races as well as certain races in the Middle-East. As well as signing African talent, one or two riders from Iran will be an added bonus to the sponsor. MTN has also agreed to fund signing of other seasoned professionals from abroad to provide valuable mentorship and experience to young riders. However, signing of non-African riders must be kept at a minimum.
World Bicycle Relief shares goals with MTN. They too are interested primarily in the African Tour and the talent the continent holds. They are hoping that this team could spread word of their cause. WBR has stated that it would perhaps favour the signing of an American rider as WBR is based in Chicago. Representing the brand in the States would be appreciated.

Isn't Qhubeka a team sponsor already?

They were this year, but Rapha is turning into Jaguar-Eritel, so it's fine.

It was in 2012, but not 2013. Rapha Condor - Qhubeka changed to Jaguar - Eritel. Plus, here Qhubeka is a minor sponsor.
Edit: Ah, I'm too slow

Was good to see you quickly switched from Eritrea to Rwanda in the team sponsor confirmation thread. A wise move

Rumours around the cycling world says, that recently established South African team MTN - World bicycle relief starts to attract some prominent riders from their home country. It is not a surprise that the recent national champion of South Africa Dennis van Niekerk is linked with the team for 2013, same as is talented domestique Herman Fouche, both riding for Ukrainian outfit Metinvest-Emirates.
Team Metinvest-Emirates manager Honchar is reported to have said the following on the matter:
Yeah, it is not a surprise for us, that our golden boys from south of Africa are rumoured to MTN, in the end every rider is keen to do something to improve level of cycling in his homecountry.
Although Dennis and Herman were the valuable assets of the squad in 2012 and we will try to renew their contracts, we are ready to listen to MTN or whoever interested. Dennis will be not transfered for free,as the current national champion, but still both riders can be a cheap package together maybe. Lets wait for the negotiations time...
But it is important to say, that Metinvest has the new South african sponsor, so we look onto their wishes also. Team will go for couple of biggest local stars and talents available probably, as we admire the South African cyclists.

MTN interested in Metinvest riders
MTN - World Bicycle Relief manager, aidanvn13, has confirmed reports that he is interested in 2 Metinvest riders, Dennis van Niekerk and Herman Fouche.
"I am very keen on signing these two. The are both strong, loyal riders with loads of experience abroad. Dennis has showed his talent by winning the Vuelta a Asturias and South African Road Race Championships with two very brave rides. This also shows his capability as potentially a leader for this team. Herman too has had strong performances throughout the year. He is a hard-working domestique and definetely has a place on this team. Of course, we'll have to wait until the transfer season begins until we can begin negotiations."
He went on to say that he is looking into signing other prominent South Africans, but didn't mention any names.
"I have my eye on a few strong South African riders in the Euro peleton. I'm definitely interested in attracting them to my team. I'm also keen on a few free riders who have shown a lot of potential."

MTN express interest in Augustyn
MTN press officer and manager, aidanvn13, has leaked emails in which he was discussing the possibility of a transfer or any deal regarding Team Bintang rider, John-Lee Augustyn. Aidanvn13 has however said he is not sure how Bintang manager, jack888, feels about the situation.
"Obviously I would love John-Lee in our line-up. I'm not sure how jack888 feels about this, but I just thought it would be worth a mention. Who knows, maybe he is interested? Right now I'm just trying to establish who is a possibility for when we reach the transfer market."
Aidanvn13 also went on to say that more news would be made public on their webpage later today.

Nice list, i am sure some of these riders will ride for you in the next season. However some of them will be almost impossible to lure to your team (i will try the same with one name from your list btw.).
Metinvest is also looking to South Africa as you know, especially for the n.1 talent in the country and most experienced finisher from the free agents pool. We will do anything to get these two.

Great job on those NCs, targeting either of the champs I assume? I'm sure Perry would love to ride for you guys.
I must say, the WBR logo across the V2 jersey could do with moving, or adding a white stroke to it; the black seems to get lost amidst the other colours.
