2012 season
Manager tyriion got a license for a team in 2012. Starting out in the newly formed CTDiv2 he found sponsoring in the Netherlands from UPC. Making a team primarily focused on cobbled riders with some attacking riders, climbers and TTists mixed in the team had some nice rides in 2012.
Although the results weren't overwhelming this first year in pro cycling taught the manager and his staff a lot about the cycling business. The team finished the season in a 9th place, out of 18 teams. This, coupled with the energy and passion for the cycling world, was enough to secure a spot in the ProContinental Tour for the 2013 season.

Elijzen To UPC?
Following reports that TT specialist Elijzen will most probably spend the 2013 season at a different team to his current Team BPost, the press room has speculated that a move to the newly promoted Dutch Team UPC might be on the cards. No comment was forthcoming from the rider but his manager had this to say: "We always like to see riders leading countries from their own nation. Elijzen is likely to head to a different team next season and UPC seems like a natural fit if they can afford him."
Elijzen had a fairly good season, with podium places in numerous stages, both in TTs and also in regular road stages. He also capped his season off as part of the winning Dutch team at the TTT worlds.

Elijzen to UPC II
Confronted with the remarks from the BPost management Team UPC manager tyriion said: "Michiel (Elijzen) could certainly fit into our team. Even better, he already made the first shortlist. Depending on how negotiations go he might ride for us next year. He will definitely be a great addition to the team. Everyone would be happy to have a world champ in their ranks.

The newly promoted Team UPC is busy looking at riders and thinking about next season. One thing they will need is new riders, as it's at least 2 steps up from CDiv 2 to the PCT. Manager tyriion was so kind to provide us a list of some riders who might be considered for this.
There are several rider we consider for a leading role in our team next year. If we can get leaders from our home countries we would be very happy. Riders coming to mind in this are; Michiel Elijzen (Bpost), Roger Kluge (Pokerstars), Sebastian Langeveld (Koppert), Marc de Maar (Free Agent), Dietmar Mehr-Wenige (Focused) and Kai Reus (VW).
Most of these names had a team in 2012, and speculations about their future before contract renewals seems premature.

Recently the licenses for the new CT have been given out, and 2 of those have gone to teams based in the Netherlands. An additional 3 have gone to teams operating from Germany. Following these developments tyriion announced the following in the press.
While it's great that more and more interest is generated in our home countries this means that riders from our regions of interest will come at a higher price. We therefore will not be as strict in our regional policy as last season.
Only the development of young riders will continue with a strong regional focus. We have already selected several new prospects we will try and get on board in the following season already.

Renewal news
While the Team UBI DS tyriion has been pretty closemouthed over the past few weeks as to which riders will get a new contract, sources within the team have now revealed that 6 riders will be re-signed. While the source couldn't provide the exact names, looking at earlier statements by tyriion and the 2012 roster it should be pretty clear who these riders are.
With 6 renewals, this leaves at least 14 spots for new riders in the Dutch-German squad. While names who could fit a leader role have already been rumored, the riders who will fulfill the helper roles are unknown. So far there is no news, but it seems certain that Team UBI will go after some prospects.

Season Goals
While the preparations for the 2013 season are on, the sponsors have named their wishes to the DS of team U-BI. While tyriion didn't want to comment on the exact races that will be targeted he told us some other interesting things.
We got a PCT license and as such we and our sponsors want to show ourselves in the biggest races possible. A logical target for us is therefore the Eneco Tour. This means we are looking for a great sprinter. Other than that we want to stay true to our core and field a nice cobbled squad. Other announcements will follow later on, when the season planning is more under way.

I like your goals. We don't ''collide'' too much Seems you'll be on a strong look-out for a quite strong sprinter this transfer season.

Yes. Looking at last season I think that's one of the realistic options for a PCT team. And my best riders are good on flat land anyway, so I can keep quite some riders from last season. That will free up a lot of cash for the transfer season.

Yeah I like your goals too. And as with Alakagom, I'm sure we will be seeing each other a lot. Also I like that you are playing to your existing strengths - you have quite a few strong domestiques for setting the pace (high flat, good stamina) and if you can keep them at minimum wage then all the better.

Team UPC - B-I announces the first riders of the 2013 roster
After some speculation and even some earlier press releases the first riders for Team UPC have signed their 2013 contracts. Not 6 but 8 riders have signed a deal that will see them racing for the Dutch/German squad in 2013. There are no real surprises in the list as these 8 have shown to be the strongest riders on the squad, other than the veterans. Riders like Nozal and Wielinga will have to look for a continental team.
The full list of renewed riders is available a couple of posts above this one.

HC invites announced
After the general announcement of HC race invites Team UPC - B-I is happy that they got their 12 top spots. Which races they are exactly can be seen in the calendar section of the HQ. May and June will be busy weeks, both in HC races and goals as the Berlin ProRace. The Criterium Hainleite and the Eneco Tour will take place in quick succession. Other than that October looks to be a big month for the team with 3 HC races participations. The season could end with a bang.

Transfer talks
As the transfer window for the 2013 season has opened teams start vying for riders. Team UPC has talked with a lot of riders. Nothing is finalized yet, but tyriion had some statements to make.
It's no secret we are looking for a good sprinter. We talked with Napolitano, but he got better offers elsewhere, to a point that we said he wasn't affordable for our first year. With him of the table it opened up a great amount of cash to pursue other riders.
I can't say anything about other negotiations, but we feel we are close to at least signing some riders.

UBI signs their first riders
This monday team UPC - Boehringer-Ingelheim have signed their first new riders for the 2013 season. All these riders were left without a team after the 2012 season.
Manager tyriion looked tired but happy after a hectic and nervous weekend;
We have had many set back during this week, the big free sprinters all got better offers from other teams. But we want to build a balanced team and so we didn't join in insane bidding wars. Napolitano, Lo Cicero and others can go swim in their cash next year, but if they have a support team only time will tell. Meanwhile we have signed the following riders.
Matteo Trentin
Matteo is a great rider. He's good on every terrain we might race on and he will be a very important (co-)leader in many of our races. His fast finish means he will also be able to pilot our sprinters in the finals, while cobbled and hilly terrain will see him lead the team.
Mirko Lorenzetto
Mirko brings great experience to the team. He's tough as nails and will be one of our top lead-out men. If the terrain gets really tough he might even get a shot or two at stage wins himself.
Jan Oelerich
Jan will be a luxury domestique for Flemish style races. Once the road gets lumpy and bumpy he will be there working for our leaders. He's also our first German rider.
Jan Hopman
Another Jan, this time a Dutch guy. We have high hopes of him as a lead-out. Jan was left without a team rather suddenly, after Koppert cycling folded. We hope he will feel at home with our outfit though.
Bobbie Traksel
Another rider from Koppert, Bobbie is very experienced. Traksel is fast and tough as nails, an ideal guy for the spring classics. The rest of the season he is pretty handy as a lead-out as well.
Bob Schoonbroodt
Bob is showing great promise as a classics rider. We have followed him for months and are happy that he signed with us. Hopefully riders like Traksel can teach him the ropes so that he progresses during the year. Our first youngster!
Boy van Poppel
Last but not least we have signed Boy van Poppel. He will be a sprint leader in many races. While he may not be THE fastest sprinter around, he's very all-round and he's not afraid to try and win in other ways then a bunch sprint. Hopefully his guts will bring us many victories against sprinters who can only do one thing.

This is so incredibly balanced, yet high-class, and cheap, it's really astonishing!
I would've given you so much trouble for many of them if I was able to stay below 20 active bids in the process
