Meiji is coming off its first season in the 2nd division of cycling, and while it certainly wasn't full of success and great results, the team was able to perform in the races that the sponsors had circled on the schedule, and not finishing dead last is probably also a bit of a success looking at the squad that was assembled last season.
Going into this the focus will be less on gather future talents, but more on adding "wins" to the team, and by that we mean proven leaders. Of course this doesn't rule out the odd future talent that Meiji will most certainly want to get a hold of, over the other teams, but becoming a stronger team is now part of the plan, especially with the new ProContinental rules, and the bottom 5 teams relegating to the Continental division where much less money is available. If that rule had been implemented this season, part of the plan with the team would be off schedule. Even so, we can't really rule out the possibility of relegating this year if the squad is too weak, and a back-up plan in case that happens is in the midst of its planning stages, so it would not be the end of the world.
Lets not forget some big news, and that is, Cannondale who not only will provide bikes, but also more money (its thought) as well as a new pool for which Meiji will be signing riders. The team will predominantly filled with East Asians, but Cannondale would like atleast a few Americans, as well as maybe one big star.

The first bit of news to come out of Japan in a long time, has reports claiming that Meiji team manager agrees that if the right offer is made, Jai Crawford would be allowed to leave. At this point he still has a spot in the team despite his somewhat disappointing season, however he has all the makings to be a good helper or rider to get in some breakaways. All offers will be considered.

Meiji is being very open with their plans going into the transfer season. Whether this is a tactic or not, we cant be sure, but it does provide a lot of useful information for both the media and the other managers who may want a rider from Meiji. If that is the case, the message seems to be clear. Let them know. It seems as if the Australians are not part of the plan going forward, so they may become available, if the price is right.

According to rumours from well-known sources, Sam Bewley wishes to have a Kiwi friend together with him in his team and Jack Bauer could possibly be an ideal target for Milka. A rider could possibly be on the other way as a part of the transfer as well.
Any comments from manager of Meiji?

Jack Bauer would most certainly enjoy the thought of that prospect and Meiji are interested in a rider coming back the other way. Meiji have made it clear that they are interested in bringing in some Italians and Americans into the team, so maybe Adrian Malori would be a suitable rider to swap?

Adrian Malori is one of the riders which could be on his way out of Milka and he would probably welcome to have bigger chances to ride for himself. The main problem of a possible transfer could be Jack Bauer's wage. We are expecting that his wage will go down quite a lot, but the question is by how much.

We of course hope that Bauer's contract is reduced enough to keep any potential deals from not happening. It sounds like we have a good base on a potential deal for when the transfer season begins, so we hope to speak with you again in the coming weeks with some finer details.

No Mercy for other Asian Teams
After last seasons debut, Meiji were the only team with a major Asian focus. Japan, China and Korea being the biggest countries in particular. GOing into its second season, Meiji can be happy with the fact that it has grown the sport already in Asia, with a few other teams now focusing on Asian cycling as well.
This is great for the sport, but the manager of Meiji has stated that there will be "no mercy" for the other Asian focused teams. He is not going to let those teams stop him from getting who he wants, and being the strongest option for the riders, when it comes to team quality should also help.

Media reports coming out of Malaysia suggest that Anuar Manan is one of the key targets of the transfer window as far as Petronas are concerned and tht Chris Robinson will have him very high on his shopping list.
unfortunately our translater isn't that good so it might be a little off the mark and he couldn't reveal what Manan or Meiji had said in response.
would you care to give us the rest of the picture?

Manan was Meiji's most successful rider last season, and he looks to continue that with them in the upcoming season, but a move to a Malaysian team could interest him.
However, Meiji value him greatly, considering his performances last year, and a large bid would have to be made, to pry him away from Meiji, who could really use his services next season.

Sung Baek Park has been rumoured to be interested in transferring to JK Cycling next year. The idea of a team that has a relatively large focus on Korea and fear of not being a leading rider in Meiji may have contributed to this. Keeping in mind that this is second hand information and may not be correct, what do you have to say about these rumours?

There is not much chance that Park leaves Meiji as he is the #1 Sprinter on the teams "depth chart". A very significant bid would have to be made, so that he could be replaced by another rider.
Another thing to consider is that Meiji want Asian talent and there is not many available sprinters at his level that are asianl, so Meiji would have to look elsewhere for a replacement sprinter. In short, a top rider like him, it does not make sense for Meiji to let go of, as the goal of the team is to consist of top Asian riders.
However, someone like Nishitani may be slightly easier to acquire.

I, manager of JK Cycling, understand the importance of a rider like Park, and understands completely that these rumours are dismissed almost immediately. It was very honorable that you faced the prying media as you did.
I would certainly be interested in potentially organizing a deal with both Meiji and Nishitani; if he isn't too expensive he certainly has a place at JK Cycling. Maybe even a loan could potentially take place...
JK Cycling, as indeed the rest of the Asian teams, appreciate your upfront response and understand completely that you wish to keep a rider with such talent as Park. Good luck in the upcoming season!

Sorry if the answer was harsh. A loan would not be an ideal move for us, and Nishitani, as a transfer would be a better option for us and finding replacements etc. More details will come out in a few weeks and when the transfer season begins.
@ Onitsuka
A move to a such a team, could certainly be a good move for Crawford, and we dont disagree that he would be better off in a team such as Onitsuka. We look forward to ironing out any possible deals for Crawford once the transfer window is open, as we are in the stages of shopping him around. Who knows, maybe taking on some loanee's as well would help soften the deal from our point of view?
