Aker - MOT 2015

Aker - MOT will continue with the same sponsors in 2015. It's a pleasure to declare that the 2015 season has started, and you're all welcome to write transfer rumours, comments on riders, or anything else you find out we should know about.

Kjell Inge Røkke, the Norwegian billionaire, is still the most important man for our team, and we're thrilled he decided to keep his promise, and thus continue to support the team for at least another year.

The team manager, ember, also held a press conference when the announcement was made, below follows the most interesting questions and answers from it.

-------------------------------------

You must thrilled to lead a Pro Tour team for 2013, was that always the plan?
No, definitely not. Our plan was never to promote already this year, eventhough our long-term goal was to be part of the Pro Tour in 2015. But here we are, and we hope to make the best of it!

Jose Alarcon was without any doubt your biggest star this season. Will he continue in the team in 2013?
He'll definitely be offered a contract, and I only hope he will accept it. But even if he accepts, it's not safe to say he'll ride in our colours next year. Money talks, and we'll try to survive in the Pro Tour, meaning he might be sold or he might be used in a deal involving another manager and team. It's honestly hard to give you an absolute answer on that question.

But what is your plan then, if Alarcon might leave?
We'll focus on making a "real" Norwegian team. We'll sign lots of Norwegians in the transfer season, which will see us pretty much rebuild the team. I would love to have Edvald Boasson Hagen as a captain for our team, and if everything goes as planned in the transfer season, he'll be both a leader and a mentor for the Norwegian riders we hope to sign.

But if you manage to sign Boasson Hagen, having only him as a team leader surely means relegation?
Honestly, to relegate won't bother me that much. We'll build for the future, and we're already at least 2 years ahead of Røkke's ambitious plan on riding in the Pro Tour in 2015. Though, having said that, we won't give up without a fight, and I definitely have some interesting plans for the transfer season.....

Could you tell us more about your "interesting plans?"
Of course, you just have to ask like you just did! Plan A was named Rein Taaramäe, but his manager, Crommy, told us he wasn't for sale, meaning I won't try anything there. But Plan B is also a good one, and it includes a Slovenian, a million Euro wage, training, and Tour de France.

Wait, what!? Are you saying your team will try to win Tour de France next year (laugh in the room)!?
That's exactly what I'm saying. Tour de France is the worlds biggest cycling race, and we'll happily relegate if we can succeed in winning Le Tour. We'll even happily relegate if we can get a rider on the podium in the Tour de France.

-------------------------------------

After such a press conference, you certainly can't blame Aker - MOT for having low ambitions for their first ever season in the Pro Tour, but will it work out the way the team hopes? Or was it only a "play for the press?"

Haha the joys of unexpected promotion - it looks like you aren't too thrilled with the idea Wink

It will be a lot of fun, I think, and it definitely makes for a very interesting transfer season; I had a pretty clear idea on how I would build the team for the next season, though, that was as a pro continental team, not as a Pro Tour team Pfft

It's a huge challenge, which I'm really looking forward to. The "No, definitely not" was meant to be the answer for the last part of the question, not the first one, but I definitely understand how it can easily be judged as I'm not looking forward to it Pfft

Interesting interview and I love that Aker continue to be bold with their ambitions. I've labelled you with the 2011's great newcomer team Bacardi.

Obviously there are a lot of if's and but's in your plans. Red Bull reveal that they too are prepared to offer at least one million a Slovenian to join their team.

That Slovenian guy is going to be popular, that's for sure!

It will be very interesting to see what you decide to do, Smowz, you certainly have a generally strong team, at least speaking of CT, and most of your riders should be able to serve as great domestiques in the Pro Tour aswell.

I daresay your stagiares may be wanting a little more than that - and perhaps experience in the lower ranks? Pfft

Good Luck next season, Alarcon may single handedly keep you up, and with the extra cap space you might be able to get in another big name leader alongside him.

The list of "riders for 2013" will be updated as the transfer season progresses. As of right now, I've just written all riders that was contracted to our team in 2012, though, taking away those we loaned in, and adding Zeits, who was loaned out in 2012. I'm not sure if we'll even offer a contract to our stagiaires from 2012. It's unlikely Marchewka will get an offer, and the same goes for Guillemois, though, we haven't decided for sure on Guillemois yet.

Meaning you'll probably have the chance to sign them both for your team in the transfer season Smile

Hey, I wasn't implying anything of the sort. I was simply pointing something out. Smile

Oh, sorry then. I completely misunderstood you Pfft

Avin Wargunnson
Well, there can always be others interested in Marchewka. Cool
I'll be back

As I can a bit of Polish, I think Marchewka means something like carrot Pfft

Maybe it could be once again a SN rider like Dietmar Mehr-Wenige^^

Very nice shirt, cool strategy, and good luck on the Tour. This is probably the last EVER chance to win it, so many will try.

I have a weird feeling that from season 2014 and forever on, Romain Sicard will be on the top step of the podium.

Yeah, Sicard will obviously be a tough one to beat from 2014 and on, but without training he will "only" be a 82MO, meaning it should still be possible to beat him Pfft

Who still lacks a "r" to completely fulfill his purpose Wink

I don't see why Madrazo and Pluchkin shouldn't be able to challenge him.
And I doubt he won't recieve training, but then, I don't know a thing about their finances Pfft

If I was the manager of him, I would do anything in my power to ensure he became 84MO by next season. A super strong TdF can basically be enough to survive the PT, so by winning Paris-Nice and Tour de France and put in a few other good result survival is home. Then it's just about which other riders you can make room for. Looking at the team lineup atm, I think we have a likely PT winner of 2014 already.

Young Norwegian Time Trialist Ken Sebastien Vassdal has expressed an interest in a dream move to Norwegian PT team Aker - MOT. Sources close to the team suggest that they would be interested in using him as a makeweight in a deal for a rider like Wilmer Vasquez or Lucas Sebastien Haedo. What are your thoughts on the matter?

ember
Earlier today, Aker - MOT's team manager spoke to Norwegian press about a possible transfer of Vassdal.

That's a very interesting proposal! Our original plan was to re-sign Haedo, but not Vasquez, but if Evian - MIATs interest in both of them is true and genuine, we won't hesitate to give them both, and get Vassdal and some cash back. If that doesn't interest Evian - MIAT, we can also swap Vasquez for Vassdal and a few coins.

Is there any chance Evian - MIAT's manager can respond to ember's latest comment?

Evian - MIAT's team manager spoke about this latest twist today, after a meeting at their European HQ in Evian. Here is what he had to say:

I would certainly be interested in a deal involving Vassdal and Vasquez, if that deal means a bit of money going to Aker - MOT then I'm sure something could be worked out, as long as we felt he was worth the outlay.
