This season the Continental division ran with 30 teams, but for the 2013 season, we are looking to expanding that to around 50. But how? By splitting the division into two subdivisions.
ProContinental
All existing Continental teams will be ProContinental teams - and there will be 30 in total. 30 will be reached by selecting current D2 teams based on their performances and activity in the 2012 season - and at present, at least 9 such teams will be selected.
They will still have the 2.5 million salary cap.
Continental
At least 20 Continental teams will be added also, to be made up of the best applicants from new managers or the remaining current D2 managers. The salary cap will be smaller - but team size will be a minimum of 15 and maximum of 20, compared to PCT and PT which have a minimum of 20.
Race Categories
As such, a new race category is to be added.
HC races will remain mostly filled by PCT teams - although CT teams may be able to fill the spaces (and there usually are spaces in the cobbled HC races).
C1 races will be raced by both PCT and CT teams, although PCT teams will get selection priority should a race be oversubscribed. There may also be the possibility for ProTour teams to send squads to C1 races - but this can not be guaranteed as it will depend on whether there are spaces left after PCT and CT teams have made their selections, after the end of the transfer period.
C2 races are a new category. Again PCT and CT teams will be able to enter, but with a twist. CT teams get priority, while PCT teams will not be able to send their strongest teams. They may not want to anyway, as there will be less ranking points available, but if they do then level 4.100 riders are unlikely to be allowed.
Relegation
There will be promotion and relegation between PCT and CT - 5 teams each way. The best performing CT teams will win promotion - although there may be an emphasis on Continental tour rankings on some of the available promotion spaces. Each season does usually see teams in PT or PCT disband for lack of activity though - and any additional spaces in PCT will be taken by the CT teams judged to have been the most active and contributive to the game throughout the season. (So not necesarrily the team that ends 6th in the rankings).

More details will be confirmed once the full team lineup is known - aswell as clarifying some of the points that I have only given vague descriptions to at the moment.
I love this new added feature. Although, the added pressure on PCT teams to avoid the bottom 5 may make my next season somewhat difficult, as I was going to build a team around young riders.
That said, the new level of races will be good for them to develop.
Will be interesting to see how continentally focused teams such as Meiji and Oz adapt to avoid the drop zone.

Love the new feature, too. Even though ANFreeman is right, when he talks about the new pressure But it's kind of a new challenge to avoid relegation, so it should be at least entertaining. Just another step for the ManGame, congrats, SN, you're the best
Avoiding relegation will indeed be a new challenge for PCT teams - but they do start with an advantage over the teams who become PCT from D2 - and it was kinda unavoidable since we want to be able to have more managers in the game!

To be fair, I should point out that CountArach had the initial idea, and it has been discussed quite a lot in the Reporters subforum, but thanks anyway!

Great news SN, you made my day and myny other days to come (because that means active all D2 managers are now guaranteed at least CT spot, maybe even PCT for some of us). I am going to write the application today, while i have still the aura of amusement.
Definitely seems like it'll be a positive addition. Will it come with more races as well?
Of course there is always the danger that the closer we get to the way actual cycling works, the closer SN will get to Pat McQuaid. Smowz better watch out, or he might get sued for no reason soon...

Given we will be using PCM12, which allows .2 races, certainly. Heaps of really obscure .2 races have been made by the community specifically for PCM12 so it should also avoid the stupid AI which we experienced in some races this year.
More participating managers should result in more active reporters I guess. And I have been working on some races as well for SN, so I hope they will be included.
Very interesting with all these changes. This game becomes huge... Hope it doesn't become a killer for you at some point SN, you really do a huuuge effort already.

I do like this idea, I have to admit. Looks great for the future of the game, with Div2 becoming more of a feeder than before.
Yes, mainly the point is that the D2 (now the CT) is more linked with the rest of the game, as well as creating a proper separation between PCT and CT teams, because up to this season the difference was the budget and pretty much nothing else. It'll be much more interesting this way, imo.
I absolutely agree with you, SotD. I really like these changes, but I wonder if this game isn't becoming too huge now.. Well, the best I can probably do is that I would like to help somehow, if there is needed some help..
Looks like a great addition to the man-game, this means that there will be less races with just a few teams. I also like that PCT teams are limited with how good a squad they can send to weaker races.
Really hope Meiji can stay up and not relegate. Its certainly going to motivate me to sign a lot of stronger riders. Its a whole new dynamic but it sounds fun, as well as adding pressure to me and teams like Oz.
This will also make the transfer season even more competitive, which being a team that chooses from a limited area, it definitely scares me

Have fun with some of the newly added Japanese riders. You'll certainly have
