Hi, I’m Timo Mennen, and I’m a big investor in VVV-Venlo, soccer club in Holland. I made all my money when I won the lottery when I was younger (I know, very lucky!). I’ve invested it in several organizations and made a lot more money. So money is not the issue. I have been in the soccer business for a very long time, over ten years now. And I’m still having fun.
New team:
However, I’m a big cycling fan. I love watching cycling and it has been my dream to start a great cycling team. In Holland the biggest team is Rabobank Cycling team. But I want to change that. I am currently assembling a team that is able to compete at a very high level in cycling. I know the talents and I know good cyclists to join the squad. I asked VVV-Venlo to take part in the team. I want to help them grow and get a lot of publicity so I they can retain more profit from sponsors. I’m glad to announce that they agreed! In the soccer world this is something complete new, but hey, why not?
Managing:
I’m not a manager but I feel I can still manage the team myself. However, I will get some good trainers to assist me and try to improve the riders of VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling.
You’ll be hearing from me soon with the team roster and the shirts!
Cheers,
Timo Mennen
ps: any tips and comments are more than welcome

Looks cool. I quite like VVV, because I think it was Honda's first Euro team
Should be fun.

Mennen stepping down as manager!
Big shock today as Mennen is stepping down as manager of VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling! This news is confirmed by VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling this morning.
In a short statement Mennen says he doesn’t want to get too involved with the team and he wants to give someone else the chance to lead the team to the desired success!
Names like Erik Breukink, Jeroen Blijlevens and even Johan Bruyneel are the topic of discussion. Probably the most surprising name in the rumours is the name of Keisuke Honda.
Former soccer player of VVV-Venlo and VVV legend. Due to a very severe injury to his knee he can’t play soccer at a high level anymore.
Everyone knows
Mennen and Honda are good friends. Honda is a cycling fan himself. In his youth he almost became a cyclist, but his parents pushed him to become a soccer player.
As he’s been following the sport ever since he would be a great manager for VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling!
More information coming soon!
Team roster 2012 official!
The squad of VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling is announced today along with the manager stepping down.
It looks like Mennen kept his promise of making a good team with riders that can compete with the world class riders!
Leaders: Thibaut Pinot, Marcel Kittel, Robert Kiserlovski.
Protected riders: Sebastian Langeveld, Wout Poels, Andrew Talansky, Geraint Thomas, John Degenkolb, Robert Gesink.
Super Domestiques:Karsten Kroon, Linus Gerdemann, Thomas Dekker, Lieuwe Westra, Sébastian Turgot, Rory Sutherland, Tom Jelte Slagter.
Domestiques; Christian Knees, Joost Posthuma, Kai Reus, Rob Ruijgh, Svein Tuft, John Darwin Atapuma.
Young talents: Taylor Phinney, Wilco Kelderman, Luke Durbridge.
First reactions to the new team:
Gesink: "I’m really looking forward to a new change with a new team after all my years at Rabobank!"
Pinot: "In this team I’m confident that I will reach my potential and maybe one day win a GT!"

My first reaction when I see the squad is that it is too strong already! You can immediately challenge at all levels (cobbles, sprints, hills, mountains, stage races) and for a newly formed team (sponsored by a football team that can be happy to earn a little bit of money every year) that is too strong. I've learned from my Monster story that the fun starts to decrease when you win a lot.
But it's your story, so your choice.
Oh, the yellow is a bit difficult to read. Maybe change itto something darker.

I think it's a strong team, but no real champs, so it should be interesting to see the young guns develop, like Pinot |
