The thuringian cycling team "Thüringer Energie Team" has signed a new team manager for the the next three years. The new 23 year-old manager is an (till know) unknowned follower of the world of cycling who is very happy for given the possibility to lead a cycling team. "I'm proud to be part of this organisation, especially because I was born in thuringia and because of that I'm emotional connected to that team" said Bigggassi after the small press conference in Erfurt. Its no secret that this team is a breeding ground for young cyclists as it brought up some big names. "Yeah" agreed Bigggassi. "Tony Martin, Marcel Kittel, John Degenkolb... Our region has a huge potential and my goal is it to generate the next future german stars."

Squad:
Teamleader:
Ralf Matzka (23):
He's the teamleader for the flat stages. There is no doubt about his speed when it comes to a sprint final. So, I expect some wins this season from this guy.
Jakob Steigmiller (22):
He's our captain for the tougher classics or stageraces. He can climbs, but also timetrial. He will be the man for the overall classification.
Marcel Barth (26):: The most expierenced rider of the team. A good sprinter which makes him to the lead-out man for Matzka and teacher of the youngsters.
Bastian Bürgel (22): Bastian is a good flat rider for his age, with some characteristics of an allrounder. Interesting to see in which direction he will go.
Benjamin Dietrich (19): Young kid which brings some speed with it, but has still plenty of room to improve.
Kevin Predatsch (20): All-around type of cyclist with the most strengths in timetrial.
Jasha Sütterlin (20): Strong timetrialist, especially at his age. I think he could have the potential of a future top-timetrialist.
Mortiz Schaffner (21): He's a guy we will watch this year. Right now he has the biggest deposit of the whole squad, so I hope he can still improve.
Maximilian Werda (21): Average young rider, who feels good on cobbles.
Fabian Thiel (20): I believe he has some potential. Its hard to say what type of rider he is, just lets see how he will develop.

Race Calender / Goals:
25/02 Beverbeek Classics - 1.2 - Top 3 | 03/03 De Vlaamse Pijl - Stannah - 1.2 - Top 5 | 11/03 Paris-Troyes - 1.2 - Top 10 | 05/04 - 08/04 Circuit des Ardennes International - 2.2 - Stagewin | 09/04 Rund um Köln - 1.1 Top 10 | 21/04 Rund um Düren - 1.2 - Win | 01/05 Rund um Eschborn-Frankfurt - 1.HC - Breakaway, Top 25 | 23/05 - 27/05 - Bayern Rundfahrt - 2.HC - Stage Top 10 | 10/06 ProRace Berlin - 1.1 - Top 10 | 29/07 Sparkassen Giro - 1.1- Win | 01/08 - 04/08 Tour des Pyrenees - 2.2 - Top 10 | 05/08 - Criterium Hainleite - 1.2 - Win | 16/09 - Rund um Sebnitz - 1.2 - Win | 03/10 - Sparkassen Münsterland Giro - 1.1 - Top 5 |
We're just a small team with 10 riders, so we will concentrate mostly on the german races. The most important race is the Crtierium Hainleite, because its a race which will take place in our region. Anyway, the first year is for improvements. We will scout the thuringian region to find some further prospects so we will hopefully come back next year with a a bigger squad and a chance for better results.

Race | Winner | Australian Championships | 1. Cadel Evans (BMC) | Santos Tour Down Under | 1. Ben Hermans (RNT) | | 2. Mikhail Ignatiev (KAT) | | 3. Yaroslav Popovych (RNT) | Tour de San Luis | 1. Thomas Lövkvist (SKY) | Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise | 1. Fabian Wegman (GRM) |
For now its still quite around the Thüringer Energie Team. At least in terms of results. "We're far away from beeing lazy or something. The team is hardly preparing for the seasons first race in belgium in the end of february." said Bigggassi to a regional newspaper. |

I have played with this team in PCM 2010 or 2009. Kittel and Degenkolb were then the two leaders, and in January i signed Matthias Kessler, too. In the first year I won some stages with them and collected lots of top 10 results. In the second year I could sign Jens Voigt, Johannes Fröhlinger (he was the german champion) and more riders but i don't remember their names. That was a good season me, so I'll follow what can you make with this squad! Good luck with the story!

25/02 Beverbeek Classic (1.2)
Bigggassi, what can we expect from your team today?
"To be honest, I didn't expect such a tough field of competitors. We are not in the best shape yet as well, so we'll probably be sitting and waiting what is gonna happen. However, its not our job to do the work, this is why we don't feel any pressure at all."
Once the race was official started multiple riders tried to break away. But it took almost 20km till finally a group of 4 riders got away. They gained an advantage of almost 6 minutes, till the peleton chased them back.
With just 16km to go there were caught and suddenly the thüringer energy team set the pace and brought their men into position.
The race got very fast and the battle of positioning got hectically as well. Some teamleaders were also involved in that crash, so Thüringer Energy (TET) accelerated one more time...
In a very good position TET lanched the sprint, the train worked to perfection and Matzka was in 3rd place when he began to sprint...
But the sprint was started way too early by TET and Matzka lost numberous placed a few meters before the finish. He passed the finish as 20th.

Was nice to see the team doing the lions share of the work preparing for the sprint, but it wasn't to be in the end
Word of advice, change your pics from png files to jpeg files so the story will download a bit quicker |

Thanks for that advice. I will keep it in mind. And yeah, but this is life and without that positioning I hadn't even finished in the top 20 mabye. There were many sprinters with 73-76 in Sprint, there was no way Matzka (69) could make that huge big impact. But when his form gets better (right now around 64) I will get some wins hopefully^^. |

03/03 De Vlaamse Pjil - Stannah (1.2)
Prerace-Report
You could saw it in their eyes. The riders of the TET were very disappointed about the outcome of the last race. They'd done all the bloody work and came up short. But there were also some confidence deep inside. "I don't think about the last race. It was the first race of the season, there are many to come. Today's the next chance and I'll try to use it" said Ralf Matzka, the leader of TET right before the start of the race.
Startlist:
Race:
And indeed, right from the start a TET member, Marcel Barth went on the attack and found himself in a 4-man-breakaway.
Unfortunately, the chemistry of the break wasn't great. Once the Peleton tried to chase them back the other member of the breakaway weren't willing to work anymore. Barth decided to get rid of the useless three, but couldn't create a gap for long. The breakaway failed, the Peleton got them back and it seemed to result in a mass-sprint...
Now it was Matzka again which the chance of a good result. But this time the TET-Crew let the other team do the work and tried to find a good back wheel for Matzka. Everything worked fine, he was placed at 5th or 6th position when the front of the pack moved into the last 1km and started the sprint...
Even the effort was not enough to finish on the podium, Matzka showed a fabolous sprint and finished in 4th. "Im very pleased with that result" said Bigggassi to the media. "Our goal was to finish in the Top 5, so we're very happy about that."
