I don't think we can question that there are five riders in with a chance of winning this thing. Lets have a look at the last three significant time tests over flat parcours.
2011 Chrono de Herbiers
| 1 Michael Rogers La Gazzetta dello Sport 1h04'42 | | 2 David Zabriskie Wikipedia + 16 | | 3 Jerome Coppel Auber 93 - Look + 41 | | 4 Taylor Phinney Wikipedia + 1'42 | | 5 Martijn Keizer Team Nespresso + 1'50 | | 6 Fabian Cancellara Carmeuse Cyclisme + 1'52 |
2012 Olympics in United Kingdom
| 1 | David Zabriskie | USA | 1h01'08 | | 2 | Michael Rogers | Australia | + 24 | | 3 | Jerome Coppel | France | + 25 | | 4 | Taylor Phinney | USA | + 30 | | 5 | Fabian Cancellara | Switzerland | + 47 |
2012 Worlds in Belgium
| Rank | Name | Team | Time | | 1 | Michael Rogers | Australia | 1h20'59 | | 2 | Fabian Cancellara | Switzerland | + 20 | | 3 | Taylor Phinney | USA | + 27 | | 4 | Jerome Coppel | France | + 44 | | 5 | David Zabriskie | USA | + 1'20 |
With David Zabriskie, Michael Rogers and Fabian Cancellara in their thirties we do have to look towards the younger generation.
We all know of 22 year old Taylor Phinney's prowess in stage racing and against the clock. But on flatter terrain he has found it hard to win, 26 year old Jerome Coppel looks to be his big rival in the future.
24 year old Martijn Keizer is probably unlucky to be of the Phinney generation else we would be getting excited about him and 27 year old Dominique Cornu has been desperately trying to establish himself at the time triallers top table. 25 year old Jacob Fiedler has been treading water at the soon to be defunct Nestle team, German fans have been getting more excited about 24 year old Lucas Schädlich who gets a protour chance here for CTour locked VolksWagen.
Protour champions elect Vesuvio have two decent top ten shouts in 26 year old Michael Ford and 24 year old Marcel Kittel.
As for today, it is probably the last big showdown between Rogers and Zabriskie before old father time starts to drain the master testers legs. Both have had their big moments on the top of teh podiums this year. Dave Z took the Crit International and the Olympic crown, whereas Rogers briefly took the Vuelta lead and more importantly took the worlds crown.

You can tell how quick and fast the races are coming at the moment - totally missed Rogers winning the World's.
Hopefully, he can do well here and Cunego deliver at Lombardy for the team to go out on a high. |

Waste of time for us... To have all 3 riders in top 50 is my goal here.

I think you'll have a hard time beating the UBS squad here, so you may have to settle for a podium.

Well, this race is my only win goal of this season.. I hope that national bonus will help Coppel here, a good day would be a nice bonus as well.. A win would be nice..

I like how you slightly ignored the game order to make the report much more interesting! And a Top 10 finish is job done for Vesuvio, good ride by Kittel. Although beaten by Schadlich means that having messed up a great chance at the German Champs last year, he'll have to ride brilliantly there to win.

With one race to go now, there is still plenty to play for. Vesuvio are champions elect and Pearl a safe 2nd, but just 10 points separates Sony Ericsson and Santander in the race for 3rd.
For 5th, Festina have just 94 points on Nestle, while Pendletons, Jack Wolfskin and Bacardi are in a very close fight for 7th.
10th looks secure for Milka, as Wikipedia and UBS battle for 11th, then Wiggle and B&O for 13th.
In further battles for pride, its Webeffect v Cafe de Colombia for 15th, and the relegating Carmeuse and Spyker for 18th - to see who can be crowned 'favourite to promote' next season!

This is absolutely amazing!
As soon as I selected my goals for this season, I already knew that I will go for Jerome Coppel no matter how high his wage goes. Yeah, I paid way over his market price last transfer season and he really hadn't the best season, plus I probably made some mistakes with planning his season.. But this win means that I am absolutely satisfied with my premiere season in ProTour for my team, I really couldn't wish for a better season with my currect squad. And as a bonus, this win means that my team successfully fulfilled all 5 goals, which I had for this season.

Nice, congrats. I'm glad Coppel/Milka won that.
I'm jealous that you got all your goals as a new team. I'm 0/5, and I think that means I'm not going to have enough actual money to fill my salary cap

Top 10 looks safe, if Ricco doesn't end up crashing in Lombardia.

Good report there - enjoyed the read, Smowz. Even though Rogers was consistently behind Dave Z and Coppel all the way, you had my hopes up at the end.
Café de Colombia almost sneaking 3 into the top 20. Might even get 15th in the overall if Cunego delivers at Lomardy. |

Youll have enough to fill the cap. Just maybe not any more. We'll see, not looked at generating them yet

Congrats Milka! 5/5 is quite an achievement in this game!
Myself I have obviously set some almost ridicously high goals. Top 5 and 15 stage wins are far far off. Hopefully Pluchkin's amazing season will weigh that up a wee bit.

I enjoyed that one, had quite an experience with all these Chrono's, was interesting the subtle differences between this and the worlds.
It was weird that Zabriskie was so weak at the worlds, I know he is really poor on cobbles but it isn't like Rogers is great. In this one it was really tight.
Nabbing Coppel was a pretty good buy I think, could certainly step up as the elite TT man in a manner of a Tony Martin. Is helped of course by this tt being in France. The last two classics felt like a changing of the guard.

I lose another place, one which I won't get back in Lombardia. I'm pretty impressed that I lost to a control rider.

Great report, always nice to see a Frenchman win on home turf. Shame there is no chance of a French GT winner at the moment, but those Francophiles of us can dream. |

Hey this was actually quite good. I expected to lose a lot of points on my rivals here, but 11th is good. Very good indeed.
Can't wait to check the PT rankings. I think my 5th place could be very much in jeopardy going into the Lombardia... Hopefully Bacardi can't catch me. I'm quite scared of Ricco atm.
EDIT: lol nevermind. I hadn't checked this threat all through
