Cyclingteam De Rijke
Welcome to my first novelle with PCM. After my Sky game crashed in season 4 I decided to do something different. The idea was to start with a small Dutch team and take over the curent position that Dutch teams like Rabobank, Vacansoleil and even Argos-Shimano have. So if I had to describe my main goal : Become the biggest team in the world.
Patch: 1.3.0.0
Database: PCM.daily's Expansion Pack for Patch 1.3.0.0 - Update from 1.2.0.0
Gameplay level: Hard
Career level: Medium
Evolution of attributes: 0.5
Plan
My first goal of course is to survive my first season without any good rider. I hope to keep the sponsor satisfied and get to the second season as fast as possible. The current sponsor deal ends in 2013 and of course I'm hoping to sign a new and better contract then or perhaps find a co-sponsor to improve my finances. Currently De Rijke gives me €408.000,- a year. Divide that by 12 months and it gives me €34.000,- a month. At the moment the team wages are €34.000,- so I don't have to worry much about finances.
The Riders
As everyone can see in the post down below there are no good riders. I'm still trying to sign 2 or 3 riders to get some winners in my team that can get my sponsors happy.
Because this is my first game with a continental team I'm thinking to use the same training schedule as I've seen in another novel (wroblitz CCC game) but before explaining all of this I need to get my reinforcements.

New Signings
My selection for this season is complete. I've signed 4 riders which will cost me a total of €12.000,- a month. I know this is almost a 35% increase of my current wage budget, but these riders where needed to get some results and earn some money.
John Lee Agustyn needs to get some wins in hilly stages. He signed a 3-year contract and will earn €2.000,- a month
Gene Michael Bates has signed a 2-year €2.000,- a month contract. I'm hoping to get a part of that money back with the NC of Australia. In other races he can act as a lead-out or just attack and try to get some stage wins.
Alex Rasmussen will be one of the lead riders this season. With a decent time trial and sprint he must be able to win some stages or even a GC in a race without hills or mountains. He is the most expensive rider in the team and will cost me €5.500,- a month. He signed a 3-year deal. Only downside is that he is unable to ride any races until may.
Wim Stroetinga will be the teams flying Dutchman. He has a decent sprint so I'm hoping to get some nice results. He's Dutch so my sponsor should be happy with him. He signed a 3-year deal and will earn €2.500,- a month.
Does everybody get the Dutch stats?

Well the first downside is already a fact. got refused on some races that were important for my sponsor. Next post will be 2 hours away I guess New Zealand Cycling Classic
@Jesleyh: I want to keep the team as Dutch as possible with a few German or Belgium riders but these guys are for the first season. Other riders were to expensive.
@Ian: Thank you

Starting Season 1
I've divided my team in 2 groups of 11 riders. One group will ride the first part and the second one will take over in July. Most of my sponsor goals in the first part are top 10 finishes and the second team needs to get stage and GC wins.
New Rider
Stijn Joseph will be my last addition for this season. He will lead the team on the cobblestone races. He signed a 3 year deal and will earn €2.800,- a month bringing the total of monthly costs at €48.800,- a month. This means that i need to earn €15.000,- a month.
Teams
The first team will have the next 11 riders.
Hills : Augustyn
Sprinter : Bates
Cobblestones : Joseph
Helpers : Beukeboom, Groen, Havik, Ottema, Pfingsten, Schipper, Schoonbroodt, Te Brake
The second team.
Hills : Duyn
Sprinters : Rasmussen, Stroetinga
Helpers : Boelen, Boeve, Boom, Groenewegen, Kouwenhoven, Pot, Stamsnijder, Van Der Meijden |

New Zealand Cycle Classic
The season couldn't have started better. New riders like Bates and Joseph worked perfectly together.
The New Zealand Cycle Classic started with a prologue. Bates, Joseph, Havik, Ottema, Schipper, Pfingsten, Groen and Te Brake arrived well prepared in New Zealand. They had been 8 days in Italy to get in shape.
Bates became 3rd in the prologue and kept his good form. He won the 2nd and 3rd stage, 3rd in the 4th stage and the 5th stage ended up in a 3rd place giving him a 1st place in GC. Bates had Joseph(7th) and Havik(4th) as lead outs.
The next race will be the Beeverbeek Classic followed by Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne. The 2nd one is an important race for my sponsor.

The team started great, but unfortunately could't keep it that way. After being refused to take part in Vuelta a Mallorca I was hoping to prepare my riders for Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne. Beeverbeek Classic ended in a 5th place for Bates, but a podium finish could have been possible if he wouldn't have been blocked. One day later Cyclingteam De Rijke started in Kuurne, but with riders like Boonen and Cancellara it didn't take long to realize that Joseph had no chance. The sponsor demanded a top 10 finish, but he ended 52nd.
Few days later the team started in Le Samyn, but again the team just wasn't strong enough. A 57th place for Joseph. To make things even worse the team got refused for Strade Bianche which was another sponsor goal. With all of this bad luck I was waiting for another win or at least a top 10 finish. The next race was Trofeo Zssdi and again a top 10 finish was the goal set by the sponsor. Augustyn did all he could, but he was just outside of the top 10. He ended 15th making the sponsor a bit happier, but they still aren't very satisfied with the way things are going at the moment. |

I’m glad that Ronde van Drenthe wasn’t one of my sponsor goals. It was another race with no sign of Cyclingteam De Rijke. I did manage to get in the breakaway, but when I was preparing the sprint the drama started all over again. Bates just couldn’t handle the high pace in the last kilometers and when the sprint started he had to let the other sprinters jump away ending 21st in a mass sprint, just a few meters in front of his lead out Joseph.
Paris-Troyes was the next flat race and again a sponsor goal. Again I wanted to play the card Bates. He was waiting nicely in the peloton while one of his teammates was showing the team colours.
But then something happened that I should’ve seen coming for miles away. The last races everything was against me so a fall of my leader could be perfect with all of the bad luck I already had so far. Augustyn attacked with only 14km left to ride and had a small lead, but it didn’t looked like it was enough so I decided to place another attack with Joseph. They got away with some other riders ending up in a 5th place for Joseph and 6th for Augustyn. The sponsor goal was achieved. Will this be the end of my bad luck? |

Good job so far. It is nice with a story that is not a classic pro-tour team. Good luck |

Nice to see a story about deRijke, but i dont see why it is necessary to sign those extra riders? To be Honest, Id rather see the story run with the original squad and racing as an outsidder in every race, other than taking a more dominant approach...
Good Luck though!

And it was the end of my bad luck, at least this race. In Handzame Classic the team did something what is common in Dutch cycling. The wind played a large role in this race, and De Rijke took over control and the peleton fell into two groups
When the two groups melted together with only 25 kilometers to go there was no team that was willing to keep a high pace. With only 12 kilometers to go it was Joseph who placed an attack. He managed to get a 44 second lead on the peleton and got his first win of the season. Behind him it was Bates who sprinted to a 10th place.
My next race was Volta Limburg Classic. Another flat race, so I had to really on Bates to achieve the sponsor goal. Again they demanded top 10. The lack of speed and acceleration resulted in a 12th place for him. The sponsor could life with this result
@miggi: I have fired all staff to save some money, so the original riders aren't going to improve by training. Therefore I wanted to add some riders that could give me some wins and would help me to keep the sponsor happy.

Riders will improve regardless of wether you have coaches or not... They just have a very slight effect on the rate at which they develop...
Nice win though
